Department of Ophthalmology (F.W., Z.J.), The Second Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (W.P.), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

Background: Repeated low-level red light (RLRL) therapy has been suggested to be effective in children with myopia. However, evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is still limited. We performed a meta-analysis of RCTs to systematically evaluate the efficacy of RLRL on changes of axial length (AL) and cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction (SER) in children with myopia.

It is highly challenging to construct the best SERS hotspots for the detection of proteins by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Using its own characteristics to construct hotspots can achieve the effect of sensitivity and specificity. In this study, we built a fishing mode device to detect the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) at low concentrations in different detection environments and obtained a sensitive SERS signal response.

An automatic system for pest recognition and forecasting.

Pest Manag Sci

February 2022

Institute of Intelligent Machines, and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

Background: Pests cause significant damage to agricultural crops and reduce crop yields. Use of manual methods of pest forecasting for integrated pest management is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Here, we present an automatic system for monitoring pests in large fields, with the aim of replacing manual forecasting.

Application of random sample consensus method for parameter estimation of reflectometry density profile in toroidal plasma.

Rev Sci Instrum

April 2021

Institute of Plasma Physics, and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, Anhui 230031, People's Republic of China.

Microwave reflectometry diagnostics have been widely used to measure density profiles in fusion plasma. However, the high sensitivity of the diagnostics to plasma turbulence often results in large radial deviations in the edge density profile and causes difficulty in profile evaluation. To improve the performance of profile evaluation, a modified RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC) method has been applied to fit the density profiles measured by reflectometry on the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak.

Blakeslea trispora is a natural source of carotenoids, including β-carotene and lycopene, which have industrial applications. Therefore, classical selective breeding techniques have been applied to generate strains with increased productivity, and microencapsulated β-carotene preparation has been used in food industry (Li et al., 2019).

Comparative Metabolic Responses Induced by Pyridine and Imidazole in .

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

November 2019

Biotechnology Center, Institute of Plasma Physics, and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

Lycopene cyclase needs to be inhibited by the blockers like pyridine or imidazole in the lycopene accumulation of . This work investigated how pyridine and imidazole impacted the basal metabolism of , the results helped us understand how they could affect the lycopene production and application, and see the metabolic risks from different inhibitors. In this study, the highest yield of lycopene with pyridine was obtained at 176 mg/L without amino acids supplement, and got more lycopene at 237 mg/L adding tyrosine, lysine, proline all together as 0.

Human driving behaviors are personalized and unique, and the automobile fingerprint of drivers could be helpful to automatically identify different driving behaviors and further be applied in fields such as auto-theft systems. Current research suggests that in-vehicle Controller Area Network-BUS (CAN-BUS) data can be used as an effective representation of driving behavior for recognizing different drivers. However, it is difficult to capture complex temporal features of driving behaviors in traditional methods.

Insect Detection and Classification Based on an Improved Convolutional Neural Network.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2018

Institute of Intelligent Machines, and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei 230031, Anhui, China.

Regarding the growth of crops, one of the important factors affecting crop yield is insect disasters. Since most insect species are extremely similar, insect detection on field crops, such as rice, soybean and other crops, is more challenging than generic object detection. Presently, distinguishing insects in crop fields mainly relies on manual classification, but this is an extremely time-consuming and expensive process.

Case study on temperature-accelerated molecular dynamics simulation of ligand dissociation: inducer dissociation from the Lac repressor protein.

October 2014

School of Life Sciences, ‡Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscales, and §Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, 96 Jinzhai Road, Hefei, Anhui 230026, China.

We studied ligand dissociation from the inducer-binding domain of the Lac repressor protein using temperature-accelerated molecular dynamics (TAMD) simulations. With TAMD, ligand dissociation could be observed within relatively short simulation time. This allowed many dissociation trajectories to be sampled.
