Introduction: Social connection comprises distinct but interrelated aspects describing how individuals connect to each other. Various measures have assessed multiple aspects of social connection in long-term care (LTC) home populations, but they use inconsistent terminology, making it unclear what aspects are measured. This scoping review describes how social connection is assessed by measures that have been used in LTC home residents.

Unlabelled: Social connection is important for long-term care (LTC) residents' quality of life and care. However, there is a lack of consensus on how to measure it and this limits ability to find what improves and impairs social connection in LTC homes. We therefore aimed to systematically review and evaluate the measurement properties of existing measures of social connection for LTC residents, to identify which, if any, measures can be recommended.

Background: We aim to examine the association between primary care physicians' billing of Q050A, a pay-for-performance heart failure (HF) management incentive fee code, and the composite outcome of mortality, hospitalization, and emergency department visits.

Methods And Results: This population-based cohort study linked administrative health databases in Ontario, Canada, for patients with HF aged >66 years between January 1, 2008, and March 31, 2020. Cases were patients with HF who had a Q050A fee code billed.

Introduction: World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines recommend countries set quality plans for their health systems with clear priorities, indicators and targets. This paper examines whether Canada's federal, provincial and territorial governments are applying these principles.

Children deserve the same high standards for drug safety, efficacy and access as adults. Unfortunately, Canada lags behind leading international regulators in implementing reforms to ensure access to paediatric medications. Paediatric regulations, also known as paediatric rules in the US, include a mandate to submit paediatric data in all new drug applications when paediatric use can be anticipated.

With significant unmet needs for mental healthcare in Canada, there is a growing interest in e-mental health (e-MH) services to meet gaps in access. While the policy window appears to be open, it is unclear how best to implement e-MH services due to health system barriers that create unmet needs in the first place. We explore the financing, organization and delivery of Canadian mental health services and discuss the promise of e-MH services for alleviating access barriers, highlighting increased policy attention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The home and community care (HCC) sector is in a health human resource crisis. Particularly concerning is the shortage of personal support workers (PSWs) who provide the majority of HCC. This paper outlines a strategy to mitigate the HCC PSW shortage by applying appropriate funding to HCC and focusing on equal pay between HCC and institutional long-term care facilities' PSWs.

Study Objective: Emergency physicians are frequently responsible for making time-sensitive decisions around the provision of life-sustaining treatment. These decisions can involve goals of care or code status discussion, which will often substantially alter a patient's care pathway. A central part of these conversations that has received relatively little attention are recommendations for care.

The purpose of this paper is to describe a nursing informatics engagement strategy at an academic teaching hospital in Canada aimed at sustaining and retaining the nursing workforce by (1) enhancing nursing engagement and leadership in informatics decision making; (2) improving nurses' experiences using the electronic health record (EHR) by creating a process of rapid handling of technology issues; (3) leveraging data about nurses' EHR system use to identify opportunities to further streamline documentation; and (4) enhancing and optimizing informatics education/training and communication strategies. The nursing informatics strategy aims to improve engagement among nursing staff, as well as decrease the burden of using the EHR as a way of addressing possible causes of burnout.

Background And Aims: Social connection is associated with better physical and mental health and is an important aspect of the quality of care for nursing home residents. The primary objective of this scoping review was to answer the question: what nursing home and community characteristics have been tested as predictors of social connection in nursing home residents? Objectives: Antibody testing against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been instrumental in detecting previous exposures and analyzing vaccine-elicited immune responses. Here, we describe a scalable solution to detect and quantify SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, discriminate between natural infection- and vaccination-induced responses, and assess antibody-mediated inhibition of the spike-angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) interaction.

Methods: We developed methods and reagents to detect SARS-CoV-2 antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
