Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has a significant impact on health and quality of life. The relationship of AF burden and temporal patterns of AF on patient symptoms, outcomes, and healthcare utilization is unknown. Insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) are a strategic and as yet untapped, tool to investigate these relationships.

Digital health literacy is emerging as an important element in chronic illness management, yet its relationship with clinical outcomes remains unclear. Utilizing data from the ongoing EXpanding Technology-Enabled, Nurse-Delivered Chronic Disease Care trial, this cross-sectional, correlational study explored the association between digital health literacy, health literacy, and patient outcomes, specifically blood pressure and hemoglobin A1c levels in 76 patients managing comorbid type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Results indicate patients had moderate digital health literacy, which was not significantly correlated with health literacy (r = 0.

Data on outcomes of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are limited in patients with pulmonary atresia intact ventricular septum (PAIVS). The objective of this study was to describe the use of ECMO and the associated outcomes in patients with PAIVS. We retrospectively reviewed neonates with PAIVS who received ECMO between 2009 and 2019 in 19 US hospitals affiliated with the Collaborative Research for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (CoRe-PCICS).

Background: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a prevalent chronic lung disease affecting premature infants, leading to long-term respiratory complications, hospital readmissions, and significant financial burden on families and the health care system. BPD is caused by lung injury, making it crucial to focus on methods to minimize lung injury and prevent the transition from respiratory distress syndrome to BPD by following evidence-based respiratory support strategies.
Purpose: This scoping review examines methods for weaning preterm infants off continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and evaluates their effectiveness in maintaining respiratory independence.

Purpose: AIM-Back is an embedded pragmatic clinical trial (ePCT) with cluster randomization designed to increase access and compare the effectiveness of two different non-pharmacological care pathways for low back pain (LBP) delivered within the Veteran Administration Health Care System (VAHCS). This manuscript describes baseline characteristics of AIM-Back participants as well as the representativeness of those referred to the AIM-Back program by sex, age, race, and ethnicity, relative to Veterans with low back pain at participating clinics.
Participants: To be eligible for AIM-Back, Veterans were referred to the randomized pathway at their clinic by trained primary care providers (Referral cohort).

Human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) exploits the viral protein and host / receptors for the pandemic infection to humans. The host co-receptors of not only humans but also several primates and HIV-model mice can interact with the HIV receptor. However, the molecular mechanisms of these interactions remain unclear.

Background: Atrial fibrillation is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular hospitalization (CVH), which may be triggered by changes in daily burden. Machine learning of dynamic trends in atrial fibrillation burden, as measured by insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs), may be useful in predicting near-term CVH.
Methods: Using Optum's deidentified Clinformatics Data Mart Database (2007-2019), linked with the Medtronic CareLink ICM database, we identified patients with >1 days of ICM-detected atrial fibrillation.

Background: Stroke prevention with direct-acting oral anticoagulant agents in patients with atrial fibrillation confers a risk of bleeding and limits their use. Asundexian, an activated factor XI (XIa) inhibitor, is an oral anticoagulant that may prevent strokes with less bleeding.
Methods: In a phase 3, international, double-blind trial, we randomly assigned high-risk patients with atrial fibrillation in a 1:1 ratio to receive asundexian at a dose of 50 mg once daily or standard-dose apixaban.
