Transfer RNA-derived fragments (tRFs) are noncoding small RNAs derived from transfer RNAs (tRNAs) in microorganisms, animals and plants. In plants, tRFs are known to respond to environmental stimuli, including heat, oxidative stress and UV radiation; however, their specific functions in horticultural plants, such as grapevine, remain poorly understood. In this study, we used RNA-seq to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in grape leaves exposed to UV-C radiation.

The evolutionary arms race between plants and insects has led to key adaptive innovations that drive diversification. Alkaloids are well-documented anti-herbivory compounds in plant chemical defences, but how these specialized metabolites are allocated to cope with both biotic and abiotic stresses concomitantly is largely unknown. To examine how plants prioritize their metabolic resources responding to herbivory and cold, we integrated dietary toxicity bioassay in insects with co-expression analysis, hierarchical clustering, promoter assay, and protein-protein interaction in plants.

The short-chain (C to C) and ultrashort-chain (C to C) per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are bioaccumulative, carcinogenic to humans, and harder to remove using current technologies, which are often detected in drinking and environmental water samples. Herein, we report the development of nonafluorobutanesulfonyl (NFBS) and polyethylene-imine (PEI)-conjugated FeO magnetic nanoparticle-based magnetic nanoadsorbents and demonstrated that the novel adsorbent has the capability for highly efficient removal of six different short- and ultrashort-chain PFAS from drinking and environmental water samples. Reported experimental data indicates that by capitalizing the cooperative hydrophobic, fluorophilic, and electrostatic interaction processes, NFBS-PEI-conjugated magnetic nanoadsorbents can remove ∼100% short-chain perfluorobutanesulfonic acid within 30 min from the water sample with a maximum absorption capacity of ∼234 mg g.

Although there is currently sufficient information on various parameters of capillary blood flow, including the average values of blood velocity, there is no data on the dynamics of velocity and the mechanisms of its modulation in various parts of the capillary. The main idea of this work is to develop a tool and image data processing to study the characteristics of the capillary blood flow dynamics. In this study, using the developed method of high-speed videocapillaroscopy, the red blood cells (RBC) velocities in the arterial and venous parts of the nailfold capillaries were compared and a time-frequency analysis of the dynamics of the velocity signals with the calculation of phase coherence was performed.

We investigated whether an anti-inflammatory lipid metabolite named 5,6-DiHETE reduces vascular permeability by inhibiting TRPV4 channels in vivo. In wild-type (WT) mice, histamine-induced dye extravasation was reduced by pre-administration of 5,6-DiHETE. In TRPV4-deficient mice, extravasation and histamine-induced edema were already reduced, and 5,6-DiHETE had no additional effect.

MYB family transcription factors (TFs) play crucial roles in plant development, metabolism, and responses to various stresses. However, whether MYB TFs are involved in regulating fatty acid biosynthesis in seeds remains largely elusive. Here, we demonstrated that transgenic Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) plants overexpressing MYB73 exhibit altered FATTY ACID ELONGATION1 (FAE1) expression, seed oil content, and seed fatty acid composition.

This paper introduces a novel butterfly optimization algorithm, called the spiral search and dynamic crossover based butterfly optimization algorithm (SCBO), for parameter estimation in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) models. To enhance the global performance of the butterfly algorithm, a spin-search strategy is incorporated to expand its exploration range, while an adaptive factor is introduced to strike a balance between exploration and exploitation. Additionally, a dynamic crossover operation is integrated to enhance solution diversity, addressing the algorithm's tendency to converge to local optima.

Background: In the dose titration of transdermal fentanyl to prevent unrelieved pain, it is important to consider not only dose adjustment, but also the titration period, which is influenced by the time required to reach the steady state. Many patients with cancer pain experience comorbidities that might affect the skin properties and influence transdermal absorption. We hypothesized that skin changes due to diabetes mellitus (DM) would affect the titration period of transdermal fentanyl.
