Introduction: Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved cellular clearance process, by which cytosolic components are delivered to autolysosomes for breakdown and recycling to maintain cellular homeostasis. During the past decades, autophagy has been found to be tightly implicated in various physiological and pathological progresses. Unraveling the regulatory mechanisms of the autophagy process will contribute to the development of emerging autophagy-targeting strategies for the treatment of various diseases.

Excessive cell proliferation due to cell cycle disorders is one of the hallmarks of breast cancer. Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), which are involved in the transition of the cell cycle from G1 phase to S phase by combining CDKs with cyclin, are considered promising targets with broad therapeutic potential based on their critical role in cell cycle regulation. Pharmacological evidence has shown that abnormal cell cycle due to the overexpression of CDK6 is responsible for the hyperproliferation of cancer cells.

Background: Lysine-specific histone demethylase 1 (LSD1) is a potential target of cancer therapy. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the combined antitumor activity of a novel LSD1 inhibitor (ZY0511) with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and elucidate the underlying mechanism in colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: We evaluated LSD1 expression in CRC tissues from patients who received 5-FU treatment.

Malaria is a devastating infectious disease and the immune response is complex and dynamic during a course of a malarial infection. Rodent malaria models allow detailed time-series studies of the host response in multiple organs. Here, we describe two comprehensive datasets containing host transcriptomic data from both the blood and spleen throughout an acute blood stage infection of virulent or avirulent Plasmodium chabaudi infection in C57BL/6 mice.

Cupin proteins share a double-stranded β-helix fold, form one of the largest protein superfamilies, and possess remarkable functional diversity. They usually exist in homooligomeric states. Goss and co-workers recently reported that the cupin protein Pac13, which is a dehydratase that mediates the formation of the 3'-deoxy nucleoside of pacidamycins, is an unusual small monomer.

Chemotherapy works against tumors by inducing cell apoptosis; however, evasion of apoptosis is recognized to result in resistance to anticancer therapy. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death pathway that differs from apoptosis in morphological, biochemical, and genetic levels. Combined ferroptosis and apoptosis may shed light on strategies for cancer treatment.

A rapid strategy for the β-glycosidase (β-Gal) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) sensing is presented, which is based on selective recognition reactions of QDs using visualization/fluorescence (FL)/atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS)/inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) multimode assay. CdTe QDs can selectively recognize Ag and Ag NPs with a cation exchange reaction (CER) where Ag triggers the release of Cd and quenches the fluorescence signal of QDs.

Metabolic reprogramming is considered to be a critical adaptive biological event that fulfills the energy and biomass demands for cancer cells. One hallmark of metabolic reprogramming is reduced oxidative phosphorylation and enhanced aerobic glycolysis. Such metabolic abnormalities contribute to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), the by-products of metabolic pathways.

Ever present hurdles for the discovery of new drugs for cancer therapy have necessitated the development of the alternative strategy of drug repurposing, the development of old drugs for new therapeutic purposes. This strategy with a cost-effective way offers a rare opportunity for the treatment of human neoplastic disease, facilitating rapid clinical translation. With an increased understanding of the hallmarks of cancer and the development of various data-driven approaches, drug repurposing further promotes the holistic productivity of drug discovery and reasonably focuses on target-defined antineoplastic compounds.

Transcription factors are known to mediate the conversion of somatic cells to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Transcription factor TFAP2C plays important roles in the regulation of embryonic development and carcinogenesis; however, the roles of Tfap2c in regulating somatic cell reprogramming are not well understood. Here we demonstrate Tfap2c is induced during the generation of iPSCs from mouse fibroblasts and acts as a facilitator for iPSCs formation.

CD24, is a mucin-like GPI-anchored molecules. By immunohistochemistry, it is widely detected in many solid tumors, such as breast cancers, genital system cancers, digestive system cancers, neural system cancers and so on. The functional roles of CD24 are either fulfilled by combination with ligands or participate in signal transduction, which mediate the initiation and progression of neoplasms.

Anti-angiogenesis is an important and promising strategy in cancer therapy. However, the current methods using anti-vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) antibodies or inhibitors targeting VEGFA receptors are not as efficient as expected partly due to their low efficiencies in blocking VEGFA signaling . Until now, there is still no method to effectively block VEGFA production in cancer cells from the very beginning, i.

Background: Duraplasty is one of the most critical issues in neurosurgical procedures because the defect of dura matter will cause many complications. Electrospinning can mimic the 3D structure of the natural extracellular matrix whose structure is similar to that of dura matter. Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) has been used to fabricate dura matter substitutes and showed compatibility to dural tissue.

Human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) is an attractive target for cancer therapy. Based on its crystal structure, we designed and synthesized a focused compound library containing the structural moiety of 1,4-benzoquinone, which possesses reactive oxygen species (ROS) induction capacity. Compound with a naphtho[2,3-][1,2,3]triazole-4,9-dione scaffold exhibited inhibitory activity against DHODH.
