Gliomas are highly aggressive primary brain tumors, with glioblastoma multiforme being the most severe and the most common one. Aberrations in sphingolipid metabolism are a hallmark of glioma cells. The sphingolipid rheostat represents the balance between the pro-apoptotic ceramide and pro-survival sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), and in gliomas it is shifted toward cell survival and proliferation, promoting gliomas' aggressiveness, cellular migration, metastasis, and invasiveness.

Hepatobiliary cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), are among the deadliest malignancies worldwide, leading to a significant number of cancer-related deaths. While bone metastases from these cancers are rare, they are highly aggressive and linked to poor prognosis. This review focuses on RNA-based molecular mechanisms that contribute to bone metastasis from hepatobiliary cancers.

Background: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been shown to improve cardiorespiratory fitness (V˙O max) but may ameliorate insulin sensitivity only in insulin-resistant humans. It is yet unclear whether these benefits persist after detraining and to which extent duration and effectiveness of metabolic improvements differ between individuals without and with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes (T2D). Background: The Neuro-2a cell line, derived from a murine neuroblastoma (NB), was established as early as 1969 and originates from a transplantable tumor that arose spontaneously in an A/Jax male mouse in 1940. Since then, it has been applied in over 10,000 studies and is used by the World Organization for Animal Health for the routine diagnosis of rabies. Surprisingly, however, Neuro-2a has never been genetically characterized in detail; this study fills that gap.

Novel 6-substituted 2-(trifluoromethyl)quinoline 5a-5e and coumarin 6a-6d ligands with aldoxime ether linked pyridine moiety were synthesized by O-alkylation of quinoline and coumarin with (E)-picolinaldehyde oxime and subsequently with [Re(CO)Cl] gave rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes 5a-5e and 6a-6d that were fully characterized by NMR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results of antiproliferative evaluation of quinoline and coumarin ligands and their rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes on various human tumor cell lines, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (CCRF-CEM), acute monocytic leukemia (THP1), cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa), colon adenocarcinoma (CaCo-2), T-cell lymphoma (HuT78), and non-tumor human fibroblasts (BJ) showed that the quinoline complexes 5a-5e had higher inhibitory activity than coumarin complexes 6a-6d, particularly against T-cell lymphoma (HuT78) cells. 6-Methoxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)quinoline 5e and 6-methylcoumarin 6d, and their rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes 5e and 6d were found to arrest the cell cycle of HuT78 cells by causing a significant accumulation of cells in the G0/G1 phase and a marked decrease in the number of cells in the G2/M phase.
