Background: Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (CCTGA) is a rare congenital heart anomaly. Physiological correction may be associated with a long pre-symptomatic period in many patients and delayed accidental diagnosis. Additional related congenital malformations may increase the complexity of cardiac interventions.

Pentamethinium indolium salts are promising fluorescence probes and anticancer agents with high mitochondrial selectivity. We synthesized two indolium pentamethinium salts: a cyclic form with quinoxaline directly incorporated in the pentamethinium chain (cPMS) and an open form with quinoxaline substitution in the γ-position (oPMS). To better understand their properties, we studied their interaction with mitochondrial phospholipids (cardiolipin and phosphatidylcholine) by spectroscopic methods (UV-Vis, fluorescence, and NMR spectroscopy).

The cases of antithrombin (AT)-deficient pregnant women with a homozygous HBS II mutation are relatively rare and are accompanied by an increased thrombophilic risk, which is manifested by increased thrombin generation (TG). It is very difficult to ensure their prophylactic treatment during pregnancy. We aimed to determine the utility of the thrombin generation assay (TGA) and anti-factor Xa (anti-FXa) test to monitor the effects of a prophylactic dose of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) in a 28-year-old woman with homozygous AT deficiency caused by mutation c.

Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a promising treatment for refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Three recent randomized trials (ARREST trial, Prague OHCA study, and INCEPTION trial) that addressed the clinical benefit of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest yielded seemingly diverging results. The evidence for extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, derived from three recent randomized controlled trials, is not contradictory but rather complementary.

We examined clinical characteristics and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) lowering in patients initiating evolocumab in real-world practice in a Central and Eastern European (CEE) cohort from the pan-European HEYMANS study. Patients from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Slovakia were enrolled at initiation of evolocumab (baseline) as per local reimbursement criteria. Demographic/clinical characteristics, lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) and lipid values were collected from medical records for ≤6 months before baseline and ≤30 months after evolocumab initiation.

The location of Brønsted-acid sites (bridging OH groups, b-OH) at different crystallographic positions of zeolite catalysts influences their reactivity due to varying confinement. Selecting the most stable b-OH conformers at each of the 12 T-sites (T=Si/Al) of H-MFI, a representative set of 26 conformers is obtained which includes free b-OH groups pointing into the empty pore space and b-OH groups forming H-bonds across five- or six-membered rings of TO tetrahedra. Chemically accurate coupled-cluster-quality calculations for periodic models show that the strength of internal H-bonds and, hence, the OH bond length vary substantially with the framework position.

Angiogenesis in healthy tissue and within malignant tumors differs on many levels, which may partly be explained by vascular mimicry formation resulting in altered contrast material or different radiopharmaceuticals distributions. Failed remodulation results in changes in the molecular exchange through the capillary wall and those consequences affect the behavior of contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals. One of the most indicative signs of malignant tissue is the increased permeability and the faster molecular exchange that occurs between the extracellular and intravascular spaces.

Purpose: Low-dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-BT) is a well-established treatment for lip cancer. High-dose-rate (HDR)-BT is a promising alternative to LDR-BT, but data are limited. In this context, we retrospectively evaluated treatment outcomes in a series of patients who underwent HDR-BT for lip carcinoma between 2003 and 2021.

MT1-MMP (MMP-14) is a multifunctional protease that regulates ECM degradation, activation of other proteases, and a variety of cellular processes, including migration and viability in physiological and pathological contexts. Both the localization and signal transduction capabilities of MT1-MMP are dependent on its cytoplasmic domain that constitutes the final 20 C-terminal amino acids, while the rest of the protease is extracellular. In this review, we summarize the ways in which the cytoplasmic tail is involved in regulating and enacting the functions of MT1-MMP.

Idelalisib (idela), a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor, and ibrutinib, a Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor, were the first oral targeted agents approved for relapsed/refractory (R/R) chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). However, no randomised trials of idelalisib plus rituximab (R-idela) versus ibrutinib have been conducted. Therefore, we performed a real-world retrospective analysis of patients with R/R CLL treated with R-idela (n = 171) or ibrutinib (n = 244).

Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumour (LCCSCT) is a type of testicular sex cord-stromal tumour that may occur sporadically or in the context of Carney complex and other genetic syndromes. A subset is clinically malignant, and the molecular mechanisms that drive such aggressive behaviour remain unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: We analysed 21 samples from 20 patients with LCCSCT (12 non-metastasising and eight metastasising) using PRKAR1A immunohistochemistry (IHC) and next-generation sequencing.

Transition to adulthood for young people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities (IDD) has been given significant attention in research, policy development and practice. The aim of this paper was to explore how a recently developed theoretical outcomes-based framework for measuring the quality of services for people with disabilities could potentially be useful in conceptualizing and supporting successful transition to adulthood. The theoretical discussion draws on both the scoping review and template analysis that was used to develop the Service Quality Framework and on a separate study synthesizing expert completed country templates and literature review which included models of and research on successful transition to adulthood.

Background And Aims: The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Lipid Clinics Network promoted a survey in order to identify and understand how and when lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is tested and clinically evaluated in lipid clinics throughout Europe, and the challenges that may prevent evaluation from being carried out.
Methods: This survey was divided into three areas of inquiry: background and clinical setting information of clinicians, questions for doctors who claimed not to measure Lp(a), in order to understand what were the reasons for not ordering the test, and questions for doctors who measure Lp(a), to investigate the use of this value in the management of patients.
Results: A total of 151 centres clinicians filled in the survey, out of 226 invited.

The ability of cells to switch between different invasive modes during metastasis, also known as invasion plasticity, is an important characteristic of tumor cells that makes them able to resist treatment targeted to a particular invasion mode. Due to the rapid changes in cell morphology during the transition between mesenchymal and amoeboid invasion, it is evident that this process requires remodeling of the cytoskeleton. Although the role of the actin cytoskeleton in cell invasion and plasticity is already quite well described, the contribution of microtubules is not yet fully clarified.

Introduction: iGlarLixi (insulin glargine 100 U/mL plus lixisenatide) has demonstrated glycaemic efficacy and safety in adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Per the European Medicines Agency's product label, iGlarLixi should be injected once a day within 1 h prior to a meal, preferably the same meal every day when the most convenient meal has been chosen. It is however unknown whether iGlarLixi administration timing affects glycaemic control and safety, as clinical trial evidence is mainly based on pre-breakfast iGlarLixi administration.
