Rock typing is a vital step in oil and gas reservoir development to achieve predictions of hydrocarbon reserves, recovery, and underground storage capacity for CO or hydrogen. To address inaccurate initial hydrocarbon-in-place prediction and improper rock property distribution in a reservoir model, a recent rock typing method, pore geometry and structure (PGS), has revealed a more accurate prediction on connate water saturation and better grouping of capillary pressure. However, the current state still needs physical interpretations of the PGS rock typing.

Phosphatidate (PA) phosphatase, which catalyzes the Mg-dependent dephosphorylation of PA to produce diacylglycerol, provides a direct precursor for the synthesis of the storage lipid triacylglycerol and the membrane phospholipids phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. The enzyme controlling the key phospholipid PA also plays a crucial role in diverse aspects of lipid metabolism and cell physiology. PA phosphatase is a peripheral membrane enzyme that is composed of multiple domains/regions required for its catalytic function and subcellular localization.

In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pah1 phosphatidate (PA) phosphatase, which catalyzes the Mg-dependent dephosphorylation of PA to produce diacylglycerol, plays a key role in utilizing PA for the synthesis of the neutral lipid triacylglycerol and thereby controlling the PA-derived membrane phospholipids. The enzyme function is controlled by its subcellular location as regulated by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. Pah1 is initially inactivated in the cytosol through phosphorylation by multiple protein kinases and then activated via its recruitment and dephosphorylation by the protein phosphatase Nem1-Spo7 at the nuclear/endoplasmic reticulum membrane where the PA phosphatase reaction occurs.

Creating musculoskeletal models in a paediatric population currently involves either creating an image-based model from medical imaging data or a generic model using linear scaling. Image-based models provide a high level of accuracy but are time-consuming and costly to implement, on the other hand, linear scaling of an adult template musculoskeletal model is faster and common practice, but the output errors are significantly higher. An articulated shape model incorporates pose and shape to predict geometry for use in musculoskeletal models based on existing information from a population to provide both a fast and accurate method.

Although there have been some advances during in recent decades, the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains challenging. Resistance is a major issue for various treatments that are used, including both the conventional standards of care (radiotherapy and platinum-based chemotherapy) and the newer EGFR and checkpoint inhibitors. In fact, all the non-surgical treatments currently used for HNSCC are associated with intrinsic and/or acquired resistance.

Opioid use disorder is a major public health crisis that is manifested by persistent drug-seeking behavior and high relapse frequency. Most of the available treatments rely on targeting opioid receptors using small molecules that do not provide sustained symptom alleviation. Psychoplastogens are a novel class of non-opioid drugs that produce rapid and sustained effects on neuronal plasticity, intended to produce therapeutic benefits.

Visceral myopathy is a life-threatening disease characterized by muscle weakness in the bowel, bladder, and uterus. Mutations in smooth muscle γ-actin (ACTG2) are the most common cause of the disease, but the mechanisms by which the mutations alter muscle function are unknown. Here, we examined four prevalent ACTG2 mutations (R40C, R148C, R178C, and R257C) that cause different disease severity and are spread throughout the actin fold.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) exhibit considerable interindividual variability in medication response, highlighting the need for precision medicine approaches to optimize and tailor treatment. Pharmacogenetics (PGx) offers the ability to individualize dosing by examining genetic factors underlying the metabolism of medications such as thiopurines. Pharmacogenetic testing can identify individuals who may be at risk for thiopurine dose-dependent adverse reactions including myelosuppression.

Background: The presence of carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant (CP-CRE) around the world is increasing, particularly in healthcare settings. Surveillance testing for plasmid-mediated carbapenemase genes is necessary to tracking CP-CRE infections.
Aim: In the state of Ohio, surveillance of carbapenem-resistant (CRE) began in 2018, and to the authors' knowledge data on these cases has not been published to date.

Lumbar puncture (LP) is a procedural skill that is required for practice in the emergency care setting, most often for diagnostic purposes. Rarely, it can also be used therapeutically, to alleviate the pain of patients presenting to the emergency department with acute headache from idiopathic intracranial hypertension. In either case, LP constitutes an invasive procedure in which the subarachnoid space is entered in order to obtain a sample of cerebrospinal fluid from one of the most vulnerable areas of the human anatomy.

The permeability of municipal solid wastes (MSWs) is important for the design and operation of landfills. This study presented the experimental investigation of the permeability of low food content- (LF-) and high food content- (HF-) MSWs prepared in laboratory-scale bioreactors for up to 5 years. The permeability of MSWs with diverse degrees of decomposition (DOBs), void ratios, and permeation liquids was measured (288 tests).

The hexameric AAA+ disaggregase, Hsp104, collaborates with Hsp70 and Hsp40 via its autoregulatory middle domain (MD) to solubilize aggregated protein conformers. However, how ATP- or ADP-specific MD configurations regulate Hsp104 hexamers remains poorly understood. Here, we define an ATP-specific network of interprotomer contacts between nucleotide-binding domain 1 (NBD1) and MD helix L1, which tunes Hsp70 collaboration.

The developed asymmetric monovalent bispecific IgG1 or Duet monoclonal antibody (Duet mAb) has two distinct fragment antigen-binding region (Fab) subunits that target two different epitope specificities sequentially or simultaneously. The design features include unique engineered disulfide bridges, knob-into-hole mutations, and kappa and lambda chains to produce Duet mAbs. These make it structurally and functionally complex, so one expects challenging developability linked to instability, degradation of products and pathways, and limited reports available.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a sex-biased disease with female sex as a significant risk factor. Increased expression of the long noncoding RNA X-inactive-specific transcript (Xist), as induced by an intersectin-1s protein fragment with proliferative potential (EH), may explain the sexual dimorphism of female pulmonary artery endothelial cells (ECs) and at least in part, the imbalance sex/ratio of PAH. Xist is essential for X-chromosome inactivation and dosage compensation of X-linked genes.

A digital design tool that can transfer material property information between unit operations to predict the product attributes in integrated purification processes has been developed to facilitate end-to-end integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing. This work aims to combine filtration and washing operations frequently using active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) isolation. This is achieved by coupling predicted and experimental data produced during the upstream crystallization process.

We propose an integrated methodology for the design and fabrication of 3D micromodels that are suitable for the pore-scale study of transport processes in macroporous materials. The micromodels, that bear the pore-scale characteristics of sandstone, such as porosity, mean pore size, etc, are designed following a stochastic reconstruction algorithm that allows for fine-tuning the porosity and the correlation length of the spatial distribution of the solid material. We then construct a series of 3D micromodels at very fine resolution (i.
