BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

January 2025

Hochschule für Gesundheitsfachberufe in Eberswalde, Schicklerstraße 20, 16225, Eberswalde, Germany.

The benefits and risks of delivery should always be considered before initiating preinduction cervical ripening and labor induction. Understanding the benefits and potential complications is crucial for healthcare professionals to make informed decisions and provide optimal care. The research was conducted retrospectively between January 2019 and July 2022.

Quantifying years of life lost in Australia: a multiple cause of death analysis.

Int J Epidemiol

December 2024

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.

Background: Deaths in Australia and other high-income countries increasingly involve multiple conditions. However, key burden of disease measures typically only use the underlying cause of death (UC). We quantified sex and cause-specific years of life lost (YLL) based on UC compared with a method integrating multiple causes of death.

Background: Low-dose amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), was superior to placebo for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in the AmitripTyline at Low-dose ANd Titrated for Irritable bowel syndrome as Second-line treatment (ATLANTIS) trial.

Objective: To perform post hoc analyses of ATLANTIS for predictors of response to, and tolerability of, a TCA.

Design: ATLANTIS randomised 463 adults with IBS to amitriptyline (232) or placebo (231).

Chronic coughing is a common complaint in small animal medicine and it has an extensive differential diagnosis with very different treatment and prognosis. Coughing is considered chronic when it lasts at least 8 weeks. This retrospective study aimed to describe the most common causes of chronic coughing in a population of dogs that presented to a referral hospital in England between January 2012 and December 2021.

Metabolomics analyses enable the examination and identification of endogenous biochemical reaction products, revealing information on the metabolic pathways and processes active within a living cell or organism. Determination of metabolic shifts can provide important information on a treatment or disease. Unlike other omics fields that typically have analytes of the same chemical class with common building blocks, those that fall under the nomenclature of metabolites encompass a wide array of different compounds with very diverse physiochemical properties.

Exoskeleton Robot Training in Two Patients with an Electrical Burn and Septic Arthritis: A Case Report.

J Burn Care Res

January 2025

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital, College of Medicine, Hallym University, Seoul, Korea.

Septic arthritis (SA) are rare in patients with burns, but delayed treatment can result in irreversible joint destruction. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are necessary to prevent joint destruction. Robot training in patients with musculoskeletal diseases and burns, can improve joint range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, and lower extremity function.

Breast revision surgery is often necessary in patients following postmastectomy breast reconstruction with free autologous flaps for aesthetic improvement. Indications for nipple-sparing mastectomy continue to be expanded oncologically. However, revision techniques for aesthetic concerns following breast reconstruction are underreported in the literature.

Background: Community-based para-professionals are trained or untrained professionals who assist in the delivery of health-related care in communities where they live. The role of community-based para-professionals in supporting early childhood development (ECD) supports has attracted increased attention recently, particularly in the context of severe constraints in the global health workforce. However, these practitioners face challenges associated with low status and poor working conditions.

Purpose: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas (UPSs) demonstrate therapy-induced hemosiderin deposition, granulation tissue formation, fibrosis, and calcification. We aimed to determine the treatment-assessment value of morphologic tumoral hemorrhage patterns and first- and high-order radiomic features extracted from contrast-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging (CE-SWI).

Materials And Methods: This retrospective institutional review board-authorized study included 33 patients with extremity UPS with magnetic resonance imaging and resection performed from February 2021 to May 2023.

Attending and participating in scientific research meetings and conferences is a key mechanism for researchers to share information and knowledge, build networks, and establish relationships and collaborations to support career development. In the UK, researchers from minoritised or underrepresented groups, may have a different experience at a conference than their peers. As a high profile provider of genomics-focussed life science conferences, Wellcome Connecting Science is committed to ensuring that our events are as inclusive as possible.

Background: Children with speech, language, and communication disorders require specialized support in response to their emotional expression challenges. Not only is such support key for their development, but it is also essential for their mental well-being. Art making emerges as a valuable tool for enabling these children to convey emotions both verbally and non-verbally, fostering a positive self-concept.

Background: People with diabetes are at increased risk of hospitalisation, morbidity, and mortality following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Long-term outcomes for people with diabetes previously hospitalised with COVID-19 are, however, unknown. This study aimed to determine the longer-term physical and mental health effects of COVID-19 in people with and without diabetes.

Background: Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease and contributes to 38% of kidney failure requiring dialysis. A gap in detection and management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) exists in primary care. Community pharmacists are positioned to support those not able to access kidney care through traditional pathways.

Globally, there are more than 17,000 cargo-handling ports that are expected to double in capacity by 2030. Overwater structures are common in ports and create permanently shaded environments that can produce ecological shifts from primary-producer to consumer dominated communities. Yet, the extent of these structures across ports and their impact on light conditions and associated communities in different areas beneath has not been quantified.

The wide range of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) technologies enables the spatial distributions of many analyte classes to be investigated. However, as each approach is best suited to certain analytes, combinations of different MSI techniques are increasingly being explored to obtain more chemical information from a sample. In many cases, performing a sequential analysis of the same tissue section is ideal to enable a direct correlation of multimodal data.

Aims: Guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) is recommended for all patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Despite this, little data exist describing GDMT use in diverse, real-world populations including the use of vasodilators, prescribed primarily to Black populations. We sought, among a diverse population of HFrEF patients, to determine (1) GDMT use rates and target dosing by medication class and (2) predictors of GDMT use and target dosing by medication class.

This study aimed to verify the correlations between variables obtained from dry-land tests and swimming performance, in addition to examining the associations between the dry-land asymmetries and swimming performance. Thirty-seven male swimmers performed a test battery, including shoulder isokinetic torque, shoulder range of motion (ROM), vertical jump, anthropometric, and in-water force tests. Additionally, the best official performance in the events of 50 and 200 m front crawl was obtained.
