Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed data from 115.6 million live births across 15 countries from 2000 to 2020 to assess the prevalence and neonatal mortality rates associated with large for gestational age (LGA) and macrosomia.
  • - Results indicated that LGA babies (those above the 90th percentile) had a lower risk of neonatal mortality compared to appropriate for gestational age (AGA) infants, while overall macrosomia (≥4000 g) also did not show increased mortality risk, except for higher weight categories.
  • - The findings suggest that a birthweight of ≥4500 g is a key indicator for increased early mortality risk in larger infants, which could help inform clinical decisions regarding their care. *

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how socioeconomic position (SEP) influences the relationship between mental disorders and mortality rates, highlighting a lack of existing research on this topic.
  • Researchers utilized various databases to compile observational studies that link mental disorders to mortality rates, while considering different SEP levels and specific causes of death.
  • The results, based on data from over 4 million individuals, indicate that higher SEP is associated with lower overall and natural cause mortality among those with mental disorders, although it correlates with higher mortality from external causes.

Although electroencephalography (EEG) serves a critical role in the evaluation and management of seizure disorders, it is commonly misinterpreted, resulting in avoidable medical, social, and financial burdens to patients and health care systems. Overinterpretation of sharply contoured transient waveforms as being representative of interictal epileptiform abnormalities lies at the core of this problem. However, the magnitude of these errors is amplified by the high prevalence of paroxysmal events exhibited in clinical practice that compel investigation with EEG.

No studies have examined the impact of multimorbidity and socioeconomic position (SEP) on adherence to the pharmacological therapies following heart transplantation (HTx). Using nationwide Danish registers, we tested the hypothesis that multimorbidity and SEP affect treatment patterns and adherence to pharmacological therapies in first-time HTx recipients. Pharmacological management included cost-free immunosuppressants and adjuvant medical treatment (preventive and hypertensive pharmacotherapies; loop diuretics).

Neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage is associated with cardiovascular health, although it is unclear which specific aspects of neighborhoods matter most. We leveraged a natural experiment in which refugees to Denmark were quasi-randomly assigned to neighborhoods across the country during 1986-1998, creating variation in exposure to various aspects of neighborhood disadvantage. The cohort was followed through December 2018.

Treating atopic dermatitis (AD) in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and in women and men with AD aspiring to be parents is difficult and characterized by uncertainty, as evidence to inform decision-making on systemic anti-inflammatory treatment is limited. This project mapped consensus across dermatologists, obstetricians and patients in Northwestern Europe to build practical advice for managing AD with systemic anti-inflammatory treatment in men and women of reproductive age. Twenty-one individuals (sixteen dermatologists, two obstetricians and three patients) participated in a two-round Delphi process.
