Introduction: Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune skin disease presenting as nonscarring hair loss. Information on the epidemiology of AA, especially the occurrence of AA and its subtypes within the general population, is scarce. The study aimed to estimate the incidence rates and prevalence of hospital-treated AA and its subtypes in Denmark and to examine the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with AA, including comorbidities and use of prescription medications.

Purpose: Hypertension is an important risk factor in cardio-epidemiological research, but data quality remains a concern. We validated different registry-based definitions of hypertension.
Patients And Methods: The cohort included all first-time responders of the Danish National Health Surveys (2010, 2013, or 2017).

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of thoracic ultrasound (TUS) for detecting interstitial lung disease (ILD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with respiratory symptoms.
Methods: Individuals with RA visiting rheumatologic outpatient clinics in the Region of Southern Denmark were systematically screened for dyspnea, cough, recurrent pneumonia, prior severe pneumonia, or a chest x-ray indicating interstitial abnormalities. Eighty participants with a positive screening were consecutively included.

Introduction: Patients with hormone receptor positive breast cancer are recommended at least five years of adjuvant endocrine therapy, but adherence to this treatment is often suboptimal. We investigated longitudinal trends in adjuvant endocrine therapy (AET) adherence among premenopausal breast cancer patients and identified clinical characteristics, including baseline comorbidities and non-cancer chronic medication use, associated with AET adherence.
Methods: We included stage I-III premenopausal breast cancer patients diagnosed during 2002-2011 and registered in the Danish Breast Cancer Group clinical database who initiated AET.

Aims: Mortality associated with mental disorders has been estimated using metrics such as mortality rate ratios and life expectancy. However, the variation around the average life expectancy has never been quantified. The main aim of this study was to measure life disparity for people with mental disorders as a measure of inequality at the time of death.

Tamoxifen prevents recurrence of breast cancer and is also approved for preventive, risk-reducing, therapy. Tamoxifen alters the breast tissue composition and decreases the mammographic density. We aimed to test if baseline breast tissue composition influences tamoxifen-associated density change.

Bleeding and venous thromboembolism (VTE) are adverse outcomes after colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) clusters with bleeding and VTE risk factors. We examined the bleeding and VTE risk in patients with T2D undergoing CRC surgery and the prognosis after these adverse outcomes.

Background: The age of onset (AOO), incidence and cumulative incidence of mental disorders are critical epidemiological measures, providing essential insights into the development and course of these disorders across the lifespan. This study aims to provide up-to-date estimates of the AOO, age-specific incidence, and cumulative incidence for a comprehensive range of mental disorders using data from Danish registers.
Methods: We conducted a follow-up study encompassing all Danish residents from January 1, 2004, to December 31, 2021, totaling 91,613,465 person-years.

Background: Elderly nursing home residents are vulnerable to infection from micro-organisms. Hand hygiene is considered one of the most important measures to prevent transmission.
Aim: To determine the effect of increased accessibility to alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR) in nursing home wards by monitoring hand hygiene compliance (HHC) among healthcare workers (HCWs).

Aims: Assessment of residual cardiovascular risk in statin-treated patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is pivotal for optimizing secondary preventive therapies. This study investigates if non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) is associated with residual ASCVD risk in statin-treated ischaemic heart disease (IHD) patients with and without diabetes.
Methods And Results: Using the Western Denmark Heart Registry, we identified statin-treated patients with IHD examined by coronary angiography (CAG) from 2011 to 2020.

Objectives: Previous studies have shown that vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) may have beneficial non-specific effects, reducing the risk of infections not targeted by the vaccine. We investigated if MMR vaccine given after the third dose of diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP3), was associated with reduced rates of antibiotic treatments.
Methods: Register-based cohort study following children from the age of recommended MMR vaccination until age 2 years.

We investigated the feasibility of using a dopamine transporter (DaT) tracer ligand ([I]FP-CIT) along with novel multi-pinhole brain collimators for dynamic brain single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in suspected Parkinson's disease patients. Thirteen patients underwent dynamic tracer acquisitions before standard imaging. Uptake values were corrected for partial volume effects.

Type 2 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease that can be subdivided on the basis of β-cell function and insulin sensitivity. We investigated the presence, incidence, and progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR) according to subtypes of type 2 diabetes. In a national cohort, we identified three subtypes of type 2 diabetes: classical, hyperinsulinemic, and insulinopenic type 2 diabetes, based on HOMA2 measurements.

Objective: To define major congenital anomaly (CA) subgroups and assess outcome variability based on defined subgroups.
Study Design: This population-based cohort study used registries in Denmark for children born with a major CA between January 1997 and December 2016, with follow-up until December 2018. We performed a latent class analysis (LCA) using child and family clinical and sociodemographic characteristics present at birth, incorporating additional variables occurring until age of 24 months.

Background: Autoimmune blistering disorders (ABDs) might elevate cardiovascular risk, but studies are lacking.
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine if ABDs elevate the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, venous thromboembolism, and cardiovascular death.
Methods: A population-based cohort of Danish patients with ABD (≥18 years of age) diagnosed during 1996-2021 (n = 3322) was compared with an age- and sex-matched comparison cohort from the general population (n = 33,195).

Aims: Increasing numbers of patients with advanced heart failure and significant comorbidity and social barriers are considered for left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). We sought to examine health care utilization post-LVAD implantation, including the influence of individual-level socio-economic position and multimorbidity.
Methods And Results: We conducted a Danish nationwide cohort study linking individual-level data from clinical LVAD databases, the Scandiatransplant Database, and Danish national medical and administrative registries.

Background: Reconstructing patient treatment trajectories is important to generate real-world evidence for epidemiological studies. The Danish National Patient Registry (DNPR) contains information about drug prescriptions and could therefore be used to reconstruct treatment trajectories. We aimed to evaluate and enhance two existing methods to reconstruct systemic anticancer treatment trajectories.

Importance: The burden of caring for children with complex medical problems such as major congenital anomalies falls principally on mothers, who in turn suffer a variety of potentially severe economic consequences. As well, health consequences of caregiving often further impact the social and economic prospects of mothers of children with major congenital anomalies (MCMCAs). Evaluating the long-term economic consequences of extensive in-home caregiving among MCMCAs can inform strategies to mitigate these effects.

Methods: We conducted a Delphi study involving 22 experts from 18 countries, who were asked to rate their level of confidence in the localization of the EZ for various theoretical clinical scenarios, using different scales. Information provided in these scenarios included one or several of the following data: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, invasive electroencephalography summary, and postoperative seizure outcome.
