Multiple porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) subtypes coinfect numerous pig farms in China, and commercial PRRSV vaccines offer limited cross-protection against heterologous strains. Our previous research confirmed that a PRRSV lineage 1 branch attenuated live vaccine (SD-R) provides cross-protection against HP-PRRSV, NADC30-like PRRSV and NADC34-like PRRSV. HP-PRRSV has undergone significant genetic variation following nearly two decades of evolution and has transformed into a subtype referred to as HP-like PRRSV, which also exhibits high pathogenicity.

The tropical Pacific is the largest oceanic source of carbon dioxide (CO) emissions, where persistent marine heatwaves (MHWs) frequently occur. During persistent MHW events which are associated with strong El Niño events, CO outgassing is notably reduced, however, its detailed spatiotemporal response to MHWs has not been fully characterized. In this study, we showed a high degree of consistency between CO source regions in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean and the occurrence regions with average annual MHW days exceeding 45 days (co-occurring area covers 80% of the area where MHWs occur).

To overcome these limitations, a self-sustained organelle-mimicking nanoreactor is developed here with programmable DNA switches that enables bio-chem-photocatalytic cascade-driven starvation-photodynamic synergistic therapy against tumor metastasis. Emulating the compartmentalization and positional assembly strategies found in living cells, this nano-organelle reactor allows quantitative co-compartmentalization of multiple functional modules for the designed self-illuminating chemiexcited PDT system.

Seaweed residue hydrolysate (SRH), produced by the acid hydrolysis of seaweed processing residues, is rich in bioactive compounds. The development and utilization of SRH as an aquatic immune enhancer not only achieves high-value utilization of waste but also promotes green and healthy aquaculture. Fibrinogen-related domain (FReD) containing proteins are an evolutionarily conserved immune gene family characterized by the C-terminal fibrinogen (FBG) and diverse N-terminal domains. To understand the complexity of this family in crustaceans, we performed genome screening and identified 43 full-length FReDs encoding genes in Litopenaeus vannamei. The assessment of soil contamination by heavy metals is of high importance due to its impact on the environment and human health. Standard high-sensitivity spectroscopic techniques for this task such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-OES and ICP-MS) are effective but time-consuming and costly, mainly due to sample preparation and lab consumables, respectively.
