Osteophytes' position in subjects with DISH and right-sided aorta: verification of the 'aortic pulsation protective effect' theory.

Rheumatology (Oxford)

November 2022

Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Sheba Medical Center, affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv.

Objectives: To validate in a large cohort with right-sided aorta the theory that thoracic right-sided flowing osteophytes in DISH results from a 'protective' effect of the pulsating descending left-sided thoracic aorta.

Methods: Chest CTs of patients with DISH and right-sided aorta and controls with DISH and left-sided aorta were evaluated and compared on each intervertebral space (IS) for the location of the aorta (right, left, centre) and the location of the osteophyte relative to the aorta (contralateral, ipsilateral, bilateral).

Results: The study and control cohorts included 31 and 35 subjects, respectively (male 22/9 and female 27/8; median age 64.

Addiction Psychotherapy: Going Beyond Self-Medication.

Front Psychiatry

February 2022

Psychology Department, Ariel University, Ariel, Israel.

Scientific and clinical work concerning the etiology of substance use and addiction has come a long way in the past decades. Current theories highlight the notion that addiction is rooted in deficits in neurobiological and psychological reward mechanisms, but also as a coping-oriented effort to contend with, or "self-medicate," negative emotional experiences. As such, contemporary approaches in the dynamic psychotherapy of addiction highlight the compensatory nature of addiction, encouraging clinicians to detect the mental suffering underlying addiction and promote alternative coping behaviors.

The timing pattern in which dipeptidyl-peptidase IV inhibitors (DPP4i) confer the risk of bullous pemphigoid (BP) is unknown. To investigate the odds of BP following exposure to DPP4i and to perform a duration-response analysis evaluating the risk of BP in relation to the duration of exposure to the culprit drug. A population-based nested case-control study was performed comparing diabetic patients with BP (n = 1458) with age-, sex- and ethnicity-matched diabetic control subjects (n = 6051) with respect to the prevalence of exposure to DPP4i.

The potential of Oxytocin (OT) as a facilitator of psychotherapy has been previously acknowledged, nonetheless, randomized controlled trials thus far have not yielded conclusive results. One approach suggested to clarify empirical inconsistencies is to refine the study hypotheses and data collection process by utilizing an in-depth idiographic exploration of the investigated phenomena. In this case illustration we provide an in-depth analysis comparing two patients hospitalized in a closed psychiatric ward with depression and undergoing psychotherapy twice a week.
