Objective: Thoracic surgery is associated with one of the highest rates of chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) among all surgical subtypes. Chronic postsurgical pain carries significant medical, psychological, and economic consequences, and further interventions are needed to prevent its development. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors associated with CPSP after thoracic surgery.

Introduction: The femur is a common site for Multiple Myeloma (MM) involvement. This study explores the impact of preventive surgery for anticipated femoral pathological fractures (IFF), based on Mirels classification, versus treatment of pathological femur fracture (PFF) on MM patient mortality and morbidity.
Methods: Retrospective cohort of 33 patients undergoing surgery due to femoral MM involvement (2004-2015), 18 patients with PFF, 15 patients with IFF, followed up until deceased or to July 2016.
Purpose: Hypotension after induction of general anesthesia is common and is associated with significant adverse events. Identification of patients at high risk can inform the use of preoperative mitigation strategies. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVC-CI) and maximal diameter (dIVC) in predicting postinduction hypotension and to identify their predictive performance across different threshold ranges.

Background: Retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPSs) present a surgical challenge, with complex anatomic relationships to organs and vascular structures. This pilot study investigated the role of three-dimensional (3D) augmented reality (3DAR) compared with standard imaging in preoperative planning and resection strategies.
Methods: For the study, 13 patients who underwent surgical resection of their RPS were selected based on the location of their tumor (right, left, pelvis).

Objectives: As point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has emerged as a valuable tool for intussusception screening, this quality improvement study aimed to implement a "POCUS-first" pathway in a Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) to streamline workflow and expedite care for children with suspected intussusception.
Methods: This was a prospective analysis of children diagnosed with ileocolic intussusception in a Pediatric ED between June 2022 and June 2023. The study compared the "POCUS-first" cohort with the group receiving only radiology-performed ultrasound.

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening, systemic, hypersensitivity reaction, manifested by urticaria, hypotension, and respiratory symptoms. Antigens that are cleared renally may have protracted exposure in patients with impaired renal function, resulting in prolonged and refractory anaphylactic shock. After administration of sugammadex, a 47-year-old man developed prolonged, refractory anaphylactic shock, with anuria due to acute kidney injury.

Objectives: Reporting diagnostic confidence (DC) in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) imaging is recommended by the ASAS guidelines. Our aim was to investigate whether self-reported DC predicts diagnostic accuracy in axSpA imaging using X-ray (XR), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Methods: We performed a post hoc analysis including 163 patients with low back pain (89 axSpA and 56 non-axSpA).

Study Objective: Recurrent torsion of otherwise normal adnexa (not involving adnexal cysts) has been reported in young girls and adolescents. Previous ovarian fixation techniques (oophoropexy), such as plication of the utero-ovarian ligament, appear to have limited efficacy in preventing recurrent torsion. A novel technique combining plication of the utero-ovarian ligament and suturing of the ovary to the round ligament has recently been described.

Childbirth is a major life event with expected positive outcomes, yet for some women postnatal psychopathological symptoms may harm women's interpersonal relationships. We hypothesized that higher levels of postnatal depression, post-traumatic stress (PTSD) symptoms, and fear of childbirth would be associated with mother-baby bond disorders and relationship dissatisfaction in couples. A cross-sectional self-report online questionnaire was used to survey partnered women who had delivered in the year prior to the study.

Background: Studies exploring the potential augmenting effect of oxytocin for patients with mental disorders have thus far reported mixed effects. However, oxytocin's effect may differ across patients with different interpersonal characteristics. This study aimed to examine the moderating role of attachment and personality traits on the effect of oxytocin administration on the therapeutic working alliance and symptomatic change, among hospitalized patients with severe mental illness.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a systemic condition characterized by new bone formation and enthesopathies of the axial and peripheral skeleton. The pathogenesis of DISH is not well understood, and it is currently considered a non-inflammatory condition with an underlying metabolic derangement. Currently, DISH diagnosis relies on the Resnick and Niwayama criteria, which encompass end-stage disease with an already ankylotic spine.
