Parent Support for Children's Physical Activity: A Qualitative Investigation of Barriers and Strategies.

Purpose: Parents play an important role in supporting children's physical activity (PA) behavior. Parent PA support is a behavior unto itself that has been examined within the framework of an adapted theory of planned behavior (TPB). The primary purpose of this research was to identify key barriers to parent PA support to understand perceptions of control in relation to parent PA support.

Senseless Violence: An Overview.

In this epilogue I review some of the existing literature on senseless violence, highlighting the phenomenon, examining the factors that cause people to commit such horrific deeds, and the complex thoughts, feelings, and acts that precede such senseless violence. The article ends with some reflections on what we should do as a profession and as a society to help curb this life shattering violence.

On the Relationship Between Confidence Sets and Exchangeable Weights in Multiple Linear Regression.

When statistical models are employed to provide a parsimonious description of empirical relationships, the extent to which strong conclusions can be drawn rests on quantifying the uncertainty in parameter estimates. In multiple linear regression (MLR), regression weights carry two kinds of uncertainty represented by confidence sets (CSs) and exchangeable weights (EWs). Confidence sets quantify uncertainty in estimation whereas the set of EWs quantify uncertainty in the substantive interpretation of regression weights.

Relative Age Effects in Women's Rugby Union From Developmental Leagues to World Cup Tournaments.

Unlabelled: Annual age cohort groupings promote relative age effects (RAEs), which often, inadvertently, create participation and attainment biases between relatively older and younger players within the same age cohort. In a globally evolving sport, women's rugby team selection practices may potentially bypass qualified players as a result of maturational differences.

Purpose: Our study examined the prevalence of RAEs in women's rugby union.

Anglo-North American qualitative counseling and psychotherapy research.

Qualitative counseling and psychotherapy research produced in the United Kingdom and in Canada and the United States is examined. It is shown that the methods and methodologies in the British research have been influenced by postmodern epistemology more than in North American work, which reflects a greater effect of positivism. Correspondingly, it is shown that a higher value has been placed on methods in the latter region compared with the former.

Hospital restructuring, work-family conflict and psychological burnout among nursing staff.

Abstract This study examined work-family conflict, family-work conflict and psychological burnout among nursing staff during a time of hospital restructuring and downsizing. Data were collected from 686 hospital-based nurses, the vast majority women. Nurses reported significantly greater work-family conflict than family-work conflict.

Procedures for Estimating Magnitude of Effects.

A review is provided of methods that estimate the magnitude of effects within experimental designs. Intraclass correlation type procedures are appropriate with any ANOVA model. Friedman's r and Cohen's power analysis apply to many non-ANOVA type situations, but only to the Fixed Effects ANOVA design.
