Purpose: Our primary aim was to determine physical educators' current level of understanding of concussion symptoms and response guidelines.

Method: Participants included 404 in-service physical educators (137 male, 266 female, 1 other) recruited through 3 SHAPE America - Society of Health and Physical Educators communication outlets. Participants were asked to complete an online survey.

Ability of Hypnosis to Facilitate Movement Through Stages of Change for Smoking Cessation.

On the basis of the transtheoretical model of change, we hypothesized that hypnosis would facilitate significantly greater movement through the stages of change toward smoking cessation in contrast to psychoeducation. Thirty participants were pretested for hypnotizability using the Elkins Hypnotizability Scale (EHS). Participants' readiness for change was assessed using the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment scale (URICA).

Assessing the value of the Meaningful Use Clinical Summary for patients and families with pediatric asthma.

Electronic clinical summaries are innovations supported by the Electronic Health Record Incentive Program, known as "Meaningful Use" (MU). The MU clinical summary documents the shared understanding of the plan of care for patients and assists families in managing asthma-related health care. The purpose of this analysis was to identify the communicative value of the summaries to patients and families.

Botrytis euroamericana, a new species from peony and grape in North America and Europe.

A novel species of Botrytis isolated from peony in Alaska, USA, and grape in Trento District, Italy, was identified based on morphology, pathogenicity, and sequence data. The grape and peony isolates share sequence homology in the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G3PDH), heat shock protein 60 (HSP60), DNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit II (RPB2), and necrosis- and ethylene-inducing protein 1 and 2 (NEP1 and NEP2) genes that place them in a distinct group closely related to B. aclada, a globally distributed pathogen of onions.

Effectiveness of a video-based aging services technology education program for health care professionals.

Health care professionals (HCPs) are a critical source of recommendations for older adults. Aging services technologies (ASTs), which include devices to support the health-care needs of older adults, are underutilized despite evidence for improving functional outcomes and safety and reducing caregiver burden and health costs. This study evaluated a video-based educational program aimed at improving HCP awareness of ASTs.

Induction Technique: Beyond Simple Response to Suggestion.

The hypnotic induction is intended to induce hypnosis. This implies that what is sought is intended to go beyond what might be wrought by mere suggestion, expectancy, and social influence. The experimentally controlled research showing that the induction makes a difference and how small changes in wording of suggestions can produce orthogonal responses is briefly reviewed.

Resistance to Healing the Wounded Self: A Psychodynamic Rationale for a Targeted Treatment.

The purpose of this article is to shed light on the psychodynamic complexities of the resistance encountered in treating the wounded self. Conceptualized on the basis of ego state therapy it offers a rationale for the use of precision-targeted abreactive hypnosis to treat these patients. Grounded in evidence-based efficacy research, the authors also briefly explain how to target treatment in wounded-self patients.

Despite the apparently definitive findings of the Christensen (2005) survey of published members of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH), disagreement about which term best describes the capacity to experience hypnosis and theoretical preference has continued. SCEH, although international, represents primarily North Americans. Preferences of international clinicians and researchers were inadequately represented, so the authors surveyed preferences from attendees of the International Congress of the International Society of Hypnosis in 2012 in Bremen, Germany.

Isolated Sleep Paralysis: Fear, Prevention, and Disruption.

Objectives: Relatively little is known about isolated sleep paralysis (ISP), and no empirically supported treatments are available. This study aims to determine: the clinical impact of ISP, the techniques used to prevent or disrupt ISP, and the effectiveness of these techniques.

Method: 156 undergraduates were assessed with lifetime ISP using a clinical interview.

Airborne Particulate Matter Size Distributions in an Arid Urban Area.

While there is a growing body of data on the health effects of particulate matter, there is little information available from areas that experience frequent dust storms, such as Spokane, WA. As part of a three-year study to investigate the health effects associated with exposure to atmospheric aerosols, ambient particulate matter in Spokane is being characterized according to particle size and chemical composition. In this report, particulate matter concentrations measured using continuous tapered-element oscillating microbalances for three size ranges are discussed.

A Central Composite Rotatable Analysis for the Catalyzed Hydrogen Peroxide Remediation of Diesel-Contaminated Soils.

A central composite rotatable design was used to investigate the interactions between hydrogen peroxide concentration, slurry volume, initial contaminant concentration, and soil organic carbon content in the catalyzed hydrogen peroxide remediation of diesel-contaminated soil. Two separate experimental matrices were investigated: (1) high slurry volumes and low peroxide concentrations, and (2) low slurry volumes with high peroxide concentrations. The time required for the high volume/low concentration system to proceed to completion was approximately three weeks; the low volume/high concentration reactions were complete within three days.
