A recent study published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis reported an interesting diurnal pattern of hypnotic responsivity; specifically, the authors found higher hypnotic responsiveness in a large sample of undergraduates in the morning and early evening. However, they did not have an explanation for this pattern of findings. This pattern is consistent, however, with the theta hypothesis of hypnotic responsivity.

This proof of principle study examined the potential benefits of EEG neurofeedback for increasing responsiveness to self-hypnosis training for chronic pain management. The study comprised 20 individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) who received 5 sessions of self-hypnosis training--1 face-to-face session and 4 prerecorded sessions. Participants were randomly assigned to have the prerecorded sessions preceded by either (a) EEG biofeedback (neurofeedback) training to increase left anterior theta power (NF-HYP) or (b) a relaxation control condition (RLX-HYP).

This case is complicated, however, because the targeted subjects were initially enrolled by their parents in a neonatal study and because the focus of the study, genital herpes simplex virus (HSV), carries significant stigma in the community. In considering the ethical issue of directly approaching the young adults for participation in this research, there are three key themes that need to be evaluated and considered: 1) the importance of the research for anticipatory guidance about the long-term impact of neonatal HSV; 2) the concerns of parents in disclosing the diagnosis; and 3) the interests of affected teens/young adults and their future partners.

Yet when viewpoints inevitably conflict, the result is too often distrust and disparagement of our colleagues. Medical students are particularly well positioned to observe this phenomenon.

Recent research has connected childhood abuse to decreased physical and mental health for low-income women in Utah. Further, mental health has established a link to employment problems. This study conducted a secondary analysis of data collected from individuals accessing public assistance to investigate the relationships among retrospective self-reports of childhood emotional, physical and sexual abuse and prospective indicators of mental health and mental health barriers to work.

However, less is known about the intersection of IPV perpetration and sexual risk behavior among men. This study used data from a diverse, community sample of 334 heterosexually active young men, aged 18 to 25, across the United States to examine whether and how men with distinct IPV-related behavior patterns differed in sexual risk-related behavior and attitudes.

But viewed from the perspective of what we know about errors and team communication, his case is all too common.

Evidence supports the efficacy of hypnotic treatments, but there remain many unresolved questions regarding how hypnosis produces its beneficial effects. Most theoretical models focus more or less on biological, psychological, and social factors. This scoping review summarizes the empirical findings regarding the associations between specific factors in each of these domains and response to hypnosis.

Objectives: This research examined gender-specific perceptions of peer seat belt use norms among high school students and their relationship with one's own seat belt use. We expected that students would underestimate the seat belt use of their peers and that these perceptions would be positively associated with their own seat belt use.
Methods: High school students from 4 schools (N = 3348; 52% male) completed measures assessing perceived seat belt use and personal seat belt use.
The Office of Human Research Protections was not justified in issuing findings against the SUPPORT Institutions. Our community can learn from the evolving healthcare transformation into learning health systems by thinking about the novel ethical issues about standard of care research raised by the SUPPORT with the same spirit of quality improvement. The current regulatory framework and the concept of foreseeable research risks is insufficient to advance the debate about the ethics of randomization of standard clinical interventions.

Importance: The use of social media by dermatology journals and professional and patient-centered dermatology organizations remains largely unknown and, to our knowledge, has yet to be fully evaluated.
Objective: To evaluate and quantify the extent of involvement of dermatology journals, professional dermatology organizations, and dermatology-related patient advocate groups on social networking sites.
Design, Setting, And Participants: We obtained an archived list of 102 current dermatology journals from SCImago on the World Wide Web and used the list to investigate Facebook, Twitter, and individual journal websites for the presence of social media accounts.
The "fit" or appropriateness of well-researched interventions within usual care contexts is among the most commonly cited, but infrequently researched, factors in the successful implementation of new practices. The current study was initiated to address two exploratory research questions: How do clinicians describe their current school mental health service delivery context? and How do clinicians describe the fit between modular psychotherapy and multiple levels of the school mental health service delivery context? Following a year-long training and consultation program in an evidence-based, modular approach to psychotherapy, semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted with 17 school-based mental health providers to evaluate their perspectives on the appropriateness of implementing the approach within a system of school-based health centers. Interviews were transcribed and coded for themes using conventional and directed content analysis.

Implementation of evidence-based practices (EBP) in health and mental health settings has not been as successful as anticipated. Patients in safety net settings have even less opportunity to receive evidence-based care. Translation research has been dominated by efficacy trials, which often do not translate to the complexity of safety net settings.
