Introduction: Men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender women (TGW), face specific obstacles to retention in care, particularly in settings with stigmatization such as sub-Saharan Africa. We evaluated the impacts of HIV status and other factors on loss-to-follow-up (LTFU) and visit adherence among MSM and TGW in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria.
Methods: TRUST/RV368 is an open cohort that provides comprehensive and integrated prevention and treatment services for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at community venues supportive of sexual and gender minorities.

Introduction: Young men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) face stigmas that hinder access to healthcare. The aim of the study was to understand age-related determinants of healthcare needs and engagement among MSM and TGW.
Methods: The TRUST/RV368 cohort provides integrated prevention and treatment services for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) tailored to the needs of sexual and gender minorities.

Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) are at risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including those of the oropharynx. We estimated the prevalence and factors associated with oral sex practices and characterized oropharyngeal STIs among a cohort of MSM and TGW in Nigeria.
Methods: From 2013 to 2018, TRUST/RV368 recruited MSM and TGW into HIV/STI diagnosis and treatment at community-based clinics in Nigeria.
Over a decade ago, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) were deemed contrary to social work values, leading to greater inequality in access to health care. Using data from the 2015 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) (n= 12,265), we examine whether HSA ownership is associated with unmet need for health care due to cost (financial barrier). HSA ownership was significantly associated with reduced financial barriers to health care (p< .

Objectives: The purpose of this investigation was to determine what older adults find most concerning about driving as they age and how these concerns are related to driving skill, behaviors, and experiences.
Methods: In partnership with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, a sample of 751 older adults ages 65 and older completed an online survey between October 2017 and May 2018. A content analysis was used to code open-ended responses about driver concerns, and multivariate logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations between driving concerns and driving skill, behavior, and experiences.

The costs of serious medical illness and end of life care are often a heavy burden for patients and families (Collins, Stepanczuk, Williams, & Rich, 2016 ; Kim, 2007 ; May et al., 2014 ; Zarit, 2004 ). Twenty-six practitioners, including social workers, managers/administrators, supervisors, and case managers from five health care settings, participated in qualitative semistructured interviews about financial challenges patients encountered.

At care transitions, patients are susceptible to adverse events and medication errors that can lead to harm or hospital readmission. This study describes the services provided by an interprofessional discharge clinic (IDC) aimed to improve these transitions and the impact on 30-day readmission rate, medication errors, and interventions documented. Data were collected retrospectively using an electronic medical record and analysed using SAS data system.

In July 2015, the Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), merged its reference and circulation services, creating the Information Services Department and Information Services Desk. Designing the Information Services Desk with a team approach allowed for the re-examination of the HS/HSL's service model from the ground up. With the creation of a single service point, the HS/HSL was able to create efficiencies, improve the user experience by eliminating handoffs, create a collaborative team environment, and engage information services staff in a variety of new projects.

US government-funded early home visiting services are expanding significantly. The most widely implemented home visiting models target at-risk new mothers and their infants. Such home visiting programs typically aim to support infant-parent relationships; yet, such programs' effects on infant attachment quality per se are as yet untested.

Violence is increasing on medical-surgical units as a "silent epidemic." This quality improvement project employs a small non-experimental, single-group, pre- and post-test design (N = 11) to determine the effectiveness of de-escalation training on medical-surgical nurses' confidence levels when dealing with agitated patients. Regardless of age, education, or years of experience, scores improved for each question on Thackrey's (1987) Confidence in Coping with Patient Aggression Instrument after implementing Ten Domains of De-escalation by Richmond et al.

In this article, we draw on insights from the fields of social epidemiology and social theory of the body to examine existing prenatal exercise interventions and to propose a multidimensional framework intended to guide future theorizing and intervention design.
Method: A scoping review of existing prenatal exercise programs and interventions focused on controlling gestational weight gain was conducted.

The development of penetrating Crohn's disease (CD) occurs in up to 50% of patients over the course of their lifetime. While the presentation of these complications, including free perforation, intra-abdominal abscess, and enteric fistula, are usually obvious, the management can require a nuanced approach, with distinct short and long-term approaches. Areas covered: This review discusses medical and surgical methods of treating these complications, including the role of percutaneous drainage of abscesses, the implications of a stricture associated with a fistula, and the efficacy of postoperative anti-TNF therapy in preventing recurrence after surgical treatment.

Efforts to improve child survival in lower-income countries typically focus on fundamental factors such as economic resources and infrastructure provision, even though research from post-industrial countries confirms that family instability has important health consequences. We tested the association between maternal union instability and children's mortality risk in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia using children's actual experience of mortality (discrete-time probit hazard models) as well as their experience of untreated morbidity (probit regression). Children of divorced/separated mothers experience compromised survival chances, but children of mothers who have never been in a union generally do not.

Across settings, it has been shown that the co-residential household is an insufficient measure of family structure and support. However, it continues to be the primary means of population data collection. To address this problem, we developed a new instrument, the Kinship Support Tree (KST), to collect kinship structure and support data on co-residential and non-residential kin and tested it on a sample of 462 single mothers and their children in a slum community in Nairobi, Kenya.
