The effects of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors result from the inhibition of the ACE (kininase II) to ultimately influence both the renin-angiotensin system and the degradation of the bradykinin (BK) metabolism. ACE inhibitors block the degradation of BK and substance P by ACE. In addition, an active metabolite of BK (Des-Arg9-BK) is catalysed by kininase I and its degradation is controlled in part by the conversion enzyme.

This study examined trait anxiety and sexual cognitions in 610 men with premature ejaculation (PE) (DSM-IV-TR criteria) and in 107 partners of these men, and compared their scores to normative data. Sexual anxiety, intravaginal ejaculatory latency time, feeling of control over ejaculation, and PE-related distress were also assessed. The scores of 343 participants (56.

The authors asked breast cancer (BC) patients to participate in 1 of 3 mind-body interventions (cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), yoga, or self-hypnosis) to explore their feasibility, ease of compliance, and impact on the participants' distress, quality of life (QoL), sleep, and mental adjustment. Ninety-nine patients completed an intervention (CBT: n = 10; yoga: n = 21; and self-hypnosis: n = 68). Results showed high feasibility and high compliance.

Vernalization establishes a memory of winter that must be maintained for weeks or months in order to promote flowering the following spring. The stability of the vernalized state varies among plant species and depends on the duration of cold exposure. In Arabidopsis thaliana, winter leads to epigenetic silencing of the floral repressor gene FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) and the duration of cold is measured through the dynamics of chromatin modifications during and after cold.

We focus on the identification of differential item functioning (DIF) when more than two groups of examinees are considered. We propose to consider items as elements of a multivariate space, where DIF items are outlying elements. Following this approach, the situation of multiple groups is a quite natural case.

Characteristics of familial isolated pituitary adenomas.

Expert Rev Endocrinol Metab

c Chief, Department of Endocrinology, CHU de Liège, University of Liege, Domaine Universitaire du Sart Tilman, 4000 Liège, Belgium.

Article Synopsis
  • Familial pituitary adenomas account for about 5% of cases, primarily linked to genetic mutations in MEN1 and PRKAR1A, with distinct features from sporadic tumors.
  • Recently recognized conditions like familial isolated pituitary adenomas (FIPA) show variations in tumor types within families, presenting at younger ages and with larger tumors compared to sporadic cases.
  • Genetic research has identified AIP gene mutations in FIPA, providing insight into tumor development, especially since about 15% of FIPA patients carry these mutations, which increases in cases of familial acromegaly.

We investigated the influence of happy and angry expressions on memory for new faces. Participants were presented with happy and angry faces in an intentional or incidental learning condition and were later asked to recognise the same faces displaying a neutral expression. They also had to remember what the initial expressions of the faces had been.
