: Given criticism of P-12 physical education and wide variability in instructional quality and subject matter outcomes in the United States (US), a national curriculum has been debated by some scholars as a mechanism for improving the status of the subject matter. Grounded in the systemic reform (SR) model, the purpose of this study was to explore physical education teacher education (PETE) leaders' perceptions regarding the implementation of a national curriculum. : In total, 28 individuals participated in in-depth interviews that were inductively/deductively coded and triangulated.

Bone is a plastic tissue with a large healing capability. However, extensive bone loss due to disease or trauma requires extreme therapy such as bone grafting or tissue-engineering applications. Presently, bone grafting is the gold standard for bone repair, but presents serious limitations including donor site morbidity, rejection, and limited tissue regeneration.

The studies described in this article explore the influence of an under-emphasized determinant of cooperative behavior in social dilemmas: affected third parties. Two experiments examined the effect of characteristics of third parties on individual cooperative behavior in social dilemmas, and identified mechanisms associated with these relationships. Study 1 demonstrated that third-party need affects individual cooperative behavior, and tested prosocial motivation and intra-group trust as mediators of this relationship.

Purpose: This prospective study was designed to evaluate psychometric properties of the Activity Choice Index (ACI), a measure for assessing one's choice to engage in more effortful, physically active behaviors in the course of daily routines over less-demanding, sedentary behaviors, in a sample of overweight women.

Method: The sample included 192 overweight women (Mage = 37.6 ± 7 years; Mbody mass index = 31.

Short-term influence of transfer training among full time pediatric wheelchair users: A randomized trial.

J Spinal Cord Med

July 2017

a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, College of Applied Health Sciences, Department of Kinesiology and Community Heath , Urbana , IL , USA.

Objective/background: To describe a structured, short-term, transfer training intervention for full-time pediatric wheelchair users, investigate the impact of training on transfer skills, and to examine similarities and differences in response to training compared to those seen in adult wheelchair users.

Design: Randomized clinical trial.

Methods: Participants were first randomized into an intervention (IG) or control group (CG).

Background/objectives: An acute bout of moderate-intensity treadmill walking exercise has previously been associated with improvements in overall mood disturbance and vigor, without worsening fatigue, among persons with multiple sclerosis (MS).This study examined the effects of light-, moderate-, and high-intensity bouts of treadmill walking exercise on immediate and delayed mood states in MS.

Design: This was a within-subjects, randomized, and counter-balanced study.

Obtaining accurate assessment data from adolescents in treatment aids clinical decision making and facilitates more accurate outcome evaluations. However, findings could be biased due to underreported substance use and mental health symptoms. This article compares self-reports of youth in non-White matched client-assessor dyads and those in nonmatched dyads.

An estimated 2.5 million people worldwide are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), and this disease may be increasing in prevalence. MS is a disease of the central nervous system that is associated with heterogeneous symptoms and functional consequences, and the current first-line disease-modifying therapies often become ineffective later in the disease.

Research has returned mixed results concerning the relationship between prosocial motivation and citizenship behavior. Building from research suggesting that mixed motives might explain these equivocal findings, we conducted two field studies examining the interaction between prosocial and competitive motives and two types of citizenship behavior. Prosocial motivation, but not competitive motivation, was positively related to citizenship behavior directed at others, though this relationship was weakened when prosocial motives were accompanied by competitive motives.

Reliability estimates are important parameters for power analyses and sample-size calculations in behavioral interventions for increasing physical activity among persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). This study involved a secondary data analysis for providing reliability estimates for measures of physical activity over a six-month period in MS. On two occasions separated by six months, participants completed the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) and wore an ActiGraph model 7164 accelerometer on a belt around the waist for a seven-day period.

Dietary modification has been shown to substantially reduce blood pressure among people with hypertension. This article uses data from the 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 cross-sections of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to examine the extent to which a hypertension diagnosis can influence individuals' dietary choices. Several models were estimated to clarify the association of a hypertension diagnosis with dietary factors related to hypertension management.

Paulhus, Robins, Trzesniewski, and Tracy (Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2004 , 39, 305-328) suggested that the three types of two-predictor suppression situations-classical suppression, cooperative suppression, and net suppression--can all be considered special cases of mutual suppression, in that the magnitude of each of the two standardized partial regression coefficients exceeds the magnitude of its corresponding standardized bivariate regression coefficient. Classical suppression and cooperative suppression can be considered mutual suppression, but net suppression cannot. Hypothetical and empirical examples of net suppression in which the magnitude of the standardized partial regression coefficient for the suppressor variable is greater than, equal to, and less than the magnitude of its standardized bivariate regression coefficient are provided.

This study examined the different facets of emotional intelligence, alexithymia, and mood awareness. Undergraduate students (N = 129) completed the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS), the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), and the Mood Awareness Scale (MAS). A factor analysis revealed two dimensions, attention to and clarity of emotions, that cut across all three instruments.

It has been widely shown that human observers are able to perceive lifted weight from the observation of a point-light display of the lifter's action. In the experiments reported here, the kinematic information used by observers to perceive a lifted weight was determined. In Experiment 1, observers (N = 30) were able to identify weights (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 kg) successfully by observing only the lift phase of the action.

The experiments reported were designed to examine how the interaction of task and organismic constraints influences the effectiveness of augmented information on the acquisition of a given force-time trace in a finger press isometric task. Experiment 1 showed that kinetic information feedback facilitated acquisition of the gaussian force-time task criterion but that the superimposition of the task criterion information on the augmented information feedback did not further improve performance. Experiment 2 revealed that the addition of task criterion information to the kinetic information feedback was beneficial to performance when the force-time curve was unfamiliar and asymmetrical in shape.
