Receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) Met or c-Met is a target of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and it plays an important role under normal and pathological conditions. Activation of Met signaling pathway is associated with several cellular processes, such as proliferation, survival, motility, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. In this article, we describe the ability of Met to activate upon a mild alkali treatment.

Being important representatives of various proteomes, membrane-active cationic peptides (CPs) are attractive objects as lead compounds in the design of new antibacterial, anticancer, antifungal, and antiviral molecules. Numerous CPs are found in insect and snake venoms, where many of them reveal cytolytic properties. Due to advances in omics technologies, the number of such peptides is growing dramatically.

Cobra cytotoxins (CTs) belong to the three-fingered protein family. They are classified into S- and P-types, the latter exhibiting higher membrane-perturbing capacity. In this work, we investigated the interaction of CTs with phospholipid bilayers, using coarse-grained (CG) and full-atom (FA) molecular dynamics (MD).

The nucleolar proteins which link cell proliferation to ribosome biogenesis are regarded to be potentially oncogenic. Here, in order to examine the involvement of an evolutionary conserved nucleolar protein SURF6/Rrp14 in proliferation and ribosome biogenesis in mammalian cells, we established stably transfected mouse NIH/3T3 fibroblasts capable of conditional overexpression of the protein. Cell proliferation was monitored in real-time, and various cell cycle parameters were quantified based on flow cytometry, Br-dU-labeling and conventional microscopy data.

Siberian permafrost is a unique environment inhabited with diverse groups of microorganisms. Among them, there are numerous producers of biotechnologically relevant enzymes including lipases and esterases. Recently, we have constructed a metagenomic library from a permafrost sample and identified in it several genes coding for potential lipolytic enzymes.

Unlabelled: Earlier we showed that liposome formulation of DL-melphalan lipophilic prodrug bearing tetrasaccharide Sialyl Lewis X (SiaLe) caused prolonged therapeutic effect on mammary cancer in mice. Here, we compare antivascular effect of SiaLe-liposomes loaded with diglyceride ester of melphalan (Mlph) against SiaLe-free formulation in Lewis lung carcinoma model.
Methods: Liposomes of egg phosphatidylcholine/yeast phosphatidylinositol/1,2-dioleoyl glycerol (DOG) conjugate of Mlph/±SiaLe-PEG-DOG, 8:1:1:0.
