Background: Noncommunicable disease (NCD) multimorbidity throws a unique challenge to healthcare systems globally in terms of not only management of disease, but also familial, social, and economic implications associated with it.
Objective: To assess the prevalence of NCD multimorbidity and its associated risk factors along with health expenditures among adults (≥18 years) living in a rural area.
Methods: A secondary data analysis of the first-round survey done as part of the Gorakhpur Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (GHDSS) was done.

Comparative analysis at one- and six-months post-vaccination showed modest reduction in S1-RBD IgG antibody and NAb titers against B.1, Alpha, Beta and Delta variants in heterologous and homologous vaccine recipients groups. However, significant reduction in NAb titers against Omicron in vaccinees’ sera post-six months underlines need for cautious prospective follow-up.

The aetiology of non-malaria vector-borne diseases in malaria-endemic, forested, rural, and tribal-dominated areas of Dhalai, Tripura, in north-east India, was studied for the first time in the samples collected from malaria Rapid Diagnostic Kit negative febrile patients by door-to-door visits in the villages and primary health centres. Two hundred and sixty serum samples were tested for the Dengue NS1 antigen and the IgM antibodies of Dengue, Chikungunya, Scrub Typhus (ST), and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) during April 2019-March 2020. Fifteen Dengue, six JE, twelve Chikungunya, nine ST and three Leptospirosis, and mixed infections of three JE + Chikungunya, four Dengue + Chikungunya, three Dengue + JE + Chikungunya, one Dengue + Chikungunya + ST, and one Dengue + ST were found positive by IgM ELISA tests, and four for the Dengue NS1 antigen, all without any travel history.

Background: This study is a baseline survey to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices with regards to the anthrax disease among the communities before demonstrating a One Health approach for elimination of human anthrax in an endemic district of Odisha. A total of 2670 respondents from 112 villages of 14 blocks were interviewed for the study using a structured questionnaire by multi-stage sampling method. Descriptive statistics were reported and logistic regression was performed to estimate the relationship between the variables and knowledge of anthrax.

Cholera localized outbreaks/epidemics accounting for high morbidity and mortality have been reported in different years both from the coastal and tribal districts of Odisha. In the present study, the emergence and spread of two sequential cholera outbreaks reported in July to October 2012 from Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Odisha was investigated. Environmental water samples from different sources and rectal swabs from diarrhoea patients were analysed for identification, antibiogram profiles and molecular studies using DMAMA-PCR assays.

Comparison of first and second waves of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) showed varied differences including the peak and time distribution. Contrary to published reports of comparing two waves in India wherein the younger age group was affected more in the second wave in India; a secondary data analysis of around 0.5 million real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction tests conducted in COVID-19 diagnostic laboratory in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India showed an increase in positivity rate in older age groups in the second wave.

The evidence for effectiveness of heterologous priming of COVID-19 vaccine is very limited. Here, we studied eighteen participants who received heterologous vaccination regimen of AstraZeneca’s ChAdOx1-nCov-19 followed by inactivated whole virion BBV152. Heterologous group participant doesn’t report any adverse event following immunization and demonstrated high humoral and neutralizing antibody response.

In the present study, probiotic potato chips containing a newly isolated probiotic Lactococcus lactis KUMS-T18 strain were produced by using a simple spraying method and then enhancing the stability, survival rate, and sensory characteristics of product during storage at 4 °C and 25 °C was examined for four months. Based on the results, Lactococcus lactis KUMS-T18 isolated from traditional Tarkhineh as a safe strain had high tolerance to low pH and high bile salt, anti-pathogenic activity, hydrophobicity, adhesion to human epithelial cells, auto- and co-aggregation, cholesterol assimilation and antibiotic susceptibility. Meanwhile, by micro-coating the probiotic cells in Tarkhineh formulations, elliptical to spherical shape (460-740 µm) probiotic drops were produced.

The application of Tarkhineh texture to protect probiotics in potato chips has been investigated as the main goal in this paper. In this study, the probiotic assessments, morphological characteristics, sensory evaluation, and survival rates of the covered probiotic cells with Tarkhineh in potato chips during storage time were assessed. Based on results, T34 isolated from traditional Tarkhineh as a safe strain had a high tolerance to low pH and bile salt conditions, displayed acceptable anti-pathogenic activities, and also showed desirable antibiotic susceptibility.

Purpose: Diarrheal disorders particularly cholera cause a significant threat resulting in high morbidity and mortality in the coastal and tribal areas of Odisha. Two sequential diarrheal outbreaks reported in 2016 from Balasore and Rayagada districts of Odisha were investigated to find out the causative organisms, antibiogram profile and molecular analysis of the isolated pathogens.
Method: Bacteriological analysis and antibiogram profiles of the pathogens were carried out as per the standard procedure followed.

This study investigated the association of seven widely known DNA repair gene polymorphisms (hOGG1 Ser326Cys, XRCC1 Arg194Trp, XRCC1 Arg280His, XRCC1 Arg399Gln, XPC Val499Ala, XPD Lys751Gln and ERCC1 Cys8092Ala) with dietary and environmental factors for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) susceptibility in Nagaland of Northeast India. The genotypes were determined in 128 NPC patients and 180 healthy controls by PCR-RFLP. XRCC1 Arg280His, XPC Val499Ala and ERCC1 Cys8092Ala were found to be associated with NPC risk.
