Because previous studies showed that testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone shorten the ventricular action potential duration (APD) in animal models, differential testosterone concentrations may account for the sex differences in QT interval.

Effective tissue repair after myocardial infarction entails a vigorous angiogenic response, guided by incompletely defined immune cell-endothelial cell interactions. We identify the monocyte- and macrophage-derived cytokine METRNL (meteorin-like) as a driver of postinfarction angiogenesis and high-affinity ligand for the stem cell factor receptor KIT (KIT receptor tyrosine kinase). The risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) varies across Asian Americans. Heterogeneity in preventive health care use may have a role in health disparity across Asian American populations. Background: Despite decades of accruing evidence supporting the clinical utility of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), adoption of CMR in routine cardiovascular practice remains limited in many regions of the world. Persistent use of long scan times of 60 min or more contributes to limited adoption, though techniques available on most scanners afford routine CMR examination within 30 min. Incorporating such techniques into standardize protocols can answer common clinical questions in daily practice, including those related to heart failure, cardiomyopathy, ventricular arrhythmia, ischemic heart disease, and non-ischemic myocardial injury.

Background: MicroRNA-150 (miR-150) plays a protective role in heart failure (HF). Long noncoding RNA, myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) regulates miR-150 function in vitro by direct interaction. Concurrent with miR-150 downregulation, MIAT is upregulated in failing hearts, and gain-of-function single-nucleotide polymorphisms in MIAT are associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction (MI) in humans.

Significantly increased risks of cardiovascular disease occur in testicular cancer survivors given cisplatin-based chemotherapy. The postulated mechanism of platinum-based chemotherapy's vascular toxicity has been thought secondary to its different early- and late- effects on vascular injury, endothelial dysfunction, and induction of a hypercoagulable state. We highlight for the first time the similarities between platinum-associated vascular adverse events and the vascular toxicity associated with other xenobiotic-metal contaminants.
