LGP2 is a RIG-I-like receptor (RLR) known to bind and recognize the intermediate double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) during virus infection and to induce type-I interferon (IFN)-related antiviral innate immune responses. Here, we find that LGP2 inhibits Zika virus (ZIKV) and tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) replication independent of IFN induction. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and confocal immunofluorescence data suggest that LGP2 likely colocalizes with the replication complex (RC) of ZIKV by interacting with viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) NS5.

Zika virus (ZIKV) infections are typically asymptomatic but cause severe neurological complications (e.g. Guillain-Barré syndrome in adults, and microcephaly in newborns).

We constructed complex models of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding to pangolin or human ACE2, the receptor for virus transmission, and estimated the binding free energy changes using molecular dynamics simulation. SARS-CoV-2 can bind to both pangolin and human ACE2, but has a significantly lower binding affinity for pangolin ACE2 due to the increased binding free energy (9.5 kcal mol).

Congenital diaphragmatic eventration (CDE) is defined as the abnormal elevation of the diaphragm, due to incomplete muscularization of the diaphragm with a thin membranous sheet replacing normal diaphragmatic muscle. We report a prenatal case with a diaphragmatic mesothelial cyst combined with CDE. A large cystic mass between the thoracic wall and the liver in early pregnancy is highly suggestive of cystic diaphragm.

Krüppel-like factor 1 (KLF1) is a pleiotropic erythroid transcription factor that is a regulator of definitive erythropoiesis. The aim of this study was to detect KLF1 gene variants in α-thalassemia (α-thal) carriers with an increased Hb F level in a Chinese population, and determine the changes of hematological parameters as a result of interactions between KLF1 gene mutations and α-thal. Subjects with α-thal and Hb F levels of ≥1.

The aim of this study was to describe the risk of aneuploidy, associated structural anomalies and clinical outcome in pregnancies with the prenatal double bubble sign. A retrospective study on ultrasound reports and pregnancy outcomes was performed in 71 foetuses with double bubble sign, who were examined at the Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center during a five-year period. Forty-nine patients had the regular prenatal care since first trimester; of these, 20 had the sonographic sign before 24 weeks and the remaining 29 had the sonographic diagnosis after 24 weeks.
