Barcode medication administration (BCMA) technology has been challenging for mental health nurses to incorporate into their clinical practice despite the potentially positive benefits of using the technology for improving patient safety. A review of the literature identified a number of practices that nurses can use to improve adoption of the technology, however, these practices have been primarily used in non-mental health contexts. Background: To assess whether there has been an increase over time in the proportion of people who drink in a risky fashion, who receive expressions of concern about their drinking or advice to cut down.

Methods: Secondary analysis of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Monitor population survey, conducted annually in Ontario (participants: 18 or older) and with relevant data available from 1998 to 2015 (N = 48,124). The proportions of participants who drank above weekly low-risk drinking levels (approximated as 15 or more drinks for males and 11 or more for females) who reported receiving expressions of concern about their drinking or advice to cut down were compared between the time periods 1998-2004, 2005-2010, and 2011-2015.

Although adherence is an important key to the efficacy of antiretroviral therapy (ART), many people living with HIV (PLWH) fail to maintain optimal levels of ART adherence over time. PLWH with the added burden of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection possess unique challenges that potentially impact their motivation and ability to adhere to ART. The present investigation sought to (1) compare ART adherence levels among a sample of HIV/HCV-coinfected versus HIV-monoinfected patients, and (2) identify whether ART-related clinical and psychosocial correlates differ by HCV status.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper explores the psychosocial factors impacting immigrant mental wellbeing, focusing on how different cultural backgrounds influence perceptions of mental health.
  • Data collected from 21 focus groups with various ethnolinguistic groups in Ontario highlight two key concepts: 'social liminality' (the transitional stress immigrants experience) and 'cultural negotiation' (how they cope with cultural challenges).
  • Findings suggest that while these processes can be stressful, they also foster adaptation and promote new understandings of mental health, advocating for a holistic approach to mental health treatment that emphasizes collaboration with immigrant communities.
