Objective: Low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) increases the risk of arterial diseases, possibly including abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). This study explored the relationship between eGFR (2008 CKD-EPI equation), annual eGFR decline, and subsequent risk of developing AAA in a large, community based sample.
Methods: This was an observational study using complete healthcare records of Stockholm residents free from AAA who underwent routine creatinine testing during 2011 - 2021.

Amyloid-PET quantification through the tracer-independent Centiloid (CL) scale has emerged as an essential tool for the accurate measurement of amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. The AMYPAD consortium set out to integrate existing literature and recent work from the consortium to provide clinical context-of-use recommendations for the CL scale. Compared to histopathology, visual reads, and cerebrospinal fluid, CL quantification accurately reflects the amount of AD pathology.

Background: There is increasing evidence implicating hemoglobin/heme and their scavengers in oxidative stress-mediated pathologies, but information is limited in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
Methods And Results: In this case-control study, we assessed heme/heme-related markers in 142 men with AAA and 279 men with a normal aortic diameter consecutively recruited from an ultrasound screening program in Sweden. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were used to measure heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and hemopexin (Hpx) plasma levels, colorimetric assays for cell-free heme and whole blood hemoglobin (Hb) levels, and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) and real-time PCR to determine haptoglobin (Hp) (pheno)type and genotype, respectively.

Introduction: The potential utility of inflammatory and hemodynamic plasma biomarkers for the prediction of incident lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD), carotid artery stenosis (CAS), isolated atherosclerotic disease without concomitant abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and isolated AAA without concomitant atherosclerotic disease has not yet been integrated in clinical practice. The main objective of this prospective study was to find predictive plasma biomarkers for cardiovascular disease and to evaluate differences in plasma biomarker profiles between asymptomatic and symptomatic CAS, as well as between isolated atherosclerotic disease and isolated AAA.
Methods: Blood samples collected at baseline from participants in the prospective Malmö Diet and Cancer study (MDCS) cardiovascular cohort (n = 5550 middle-aged individuals; baseline 1991-1994) were used for plasma biomarker analysis.

Objective: Technology and advances in clinical care have changed the management of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) but the clinical effectiveness of continuing advances needs to be assessed. To facilitate rapid synthesis of new evidence and improve stakeholder representation, including patients, the concept of core outcome sets (COS) has been developed. COS, reflecting the needs of all stakeholders, have been established across several surgical specialties.

Introduction: To support clinical trial designs focused on early interventions, our study determined reliable early amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation based on Centiloids (CL) in pre-dementia populations.
Methods: A total of 1032 participants from the Amyloid Imaging to Prevent Alzheimer's Disease-Prognostic and Natural History Study (AMYPAD-PNHS) and Insight46 who underwent [F]flutemetamol, [F]florbetaben or [F]florbetapir amyloid-PET were included. A normative strategy was used to define reliable accumulation by estimating the 95 percentile of longitudinal measurements in sub-populations (N = 101/750, N = 35/382) expected to remain stable over time.

Objectives: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) run lower risk for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA, aortic diameter ≥ 30 mm) and its complications. We aimed to evaluate associations between disturbances in glucose metabolism and arterial stiffness, AAA, and abdominal aortic diameter in 65-year-old men.
Methods: Forty-eight 65-year-old men with screening-detected AAA and 115 men with normal abdominal aortic diameter underwent examination of glucose metabolism and arterial stiffness.

Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate how genetic variations in genes related to oxidative stress, intake of antioxidant vitamins, and any potential interactions between these factors affect the incidence of intact abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and its rupture (rAAA), accounting for sex differences where possible.
Methods And Results: The present retrospective cohort study (n = 25 252) uses baseline single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and total antioxidant vitamin intake data from the large population-based, Malmö Diet and Cancer Study. Cumulative incidence of intact AAA was 1.

Background: Screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in 65-year-old males reduces aneurysm related mortality. Infrarenal aortic diameter (IAD) has been shown to correlate to body surface area (BSA) which could influence diagnostic criteria for AAA. This study investigates whether AAA growth rates are also dependent on BSA, as that might have potential effects on surveillance of small AAAs.

Patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) have a higher risk of cardiovascular (CV) events, which seems to be associated with disturbed platelet (PLT) function. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is an emerging, less-invasive treatment alternative to surgical AAA repair. Both platelet function abnormalities in patients with AAA and the effect of EVAR on platelet function are poorly understood.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a chronic, life-threatening vascular disease whose only therapeutic option is a surgical repair to prevent vessel rupture. The lack of medical therapy results from an inadequate understanding of the etiopathogenesis of AAA. Many studies in animal and human models indicate a 'short-circuiting' of the regulation of the inflammatory-immune response as a major player in the AAA chronic process.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate if ilio-femoral calcium score (CS) combined with Glasgow Aneurysm Score (GAS) can improve the prediction of long-term survival after EVAR.
Methods: All the patients who underwent infrarenal endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for non-ruptured AAA between January 2004 and December 2012 at a tertiary referral center were retrospectively included if the preoperative imaging was of sufficient quality and they had survived for more than 30 days. Preoperative non-contrast enhanced CT were used to measure ilio-femoral calcium score using dedicated postprocessing software.

Traditional risk factors for atherosclerotic disease (AD) are well-known, of which some are relevant also for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). The present study compares the importance of plasma biomarkers and traditional risk factor profiles for incident AD without concomitant AAA (isolated AD) and AAA without concomitant AD (isolated AAA) during long-term follow-up. In the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study-cardiovascular cohort, 5,381 participants were free from atrial fibrillation or flutter, AD (coronary artery disease, atherothrombotic ischemic stroke, carotid artery disease, or peripheral artery disease), and AAA underwent blood sampling under standardized fasting conditions between 1991 and 1994.

Gut microbiota is represented by different microorganisms that colonize the intestinal tract, mostly the large intestine, such as bacteria, fungi, archaea and viruses. The gut microbial balance has a key role in several functions. It modulates the host's metabolism, maintains the gut barrier integrity, participates in the xenobiotics and drug metabolism, and acts as protection against gastro-intestinal pathogens through the host's immune system modulation.

Even though abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and coronary heart disease (CHD) are both related to atherosclerosis, there could be important differences in risk factors. Based on Malmö Diet and Cancer Cohort, the incidence of AAA and CHD was followed prospectively. Cox regression was used to calculate the association of each factor with AAA and CHD and hazards ratio were compared using a modified Lunn-McNeil method; 447 participants developed AAA and 3129 developed CHD.
