We describe two cases of possible healthcare-associated mucormycosis in liver transplant recipients. Mucorales may be acquired from environmental sources such as contaminated medical equipment, grafts or procedure related. Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is the second most common presentation in healthcare-associated infections.

A 31-year-old gentleman, hailing from West Bengal, a farmer by occupation, with no known prior comorbidities, presented with a history of multiple painful swellings over the abdomen, thorax (back and front), and suprapubic region of 6 months' duration. The swelling started in the abdomen and subsequently involved the thorax. It also progressively increased in size over the 6 months.

This study investigates the diagnostic practices for mucormycosis among 30 French University Hospital mycology laboratories, in 2024. All laboratories perform both direct examination and culture, with fluorescent brighteners being the most commonly used method for direct examination. While 77 % of the participating laboratories routinely identify Mucorales to the species level, with 70 % having adopted Mucorales-specific quantitative PCR, primarily for the diagnosis of invasive fungal infections.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) caused coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been connected to numerous opportunistic bacterial and fungal infections. Mucormycosis is a fatal opportunistic disease that became much more common with the second COVID-19 wave. We plan to look into the prognosis and course of mucormycosis following COVID-19, as well as the risk of mucormycosis in cases with COVID-19 pneumonitis.

This clinical report describes 2 treatment approaches using digital techniques to address prosthetic challenges. The first patient had a large maxillary defect after mucormycosis surgery, necessitating a combination of digital and conventional methods for obturator fabrication because of computer-aided design software program limitations.

This article details a practical case of prosthetic rehabilitation using digital workflow for an orbital deformity caused by post-COVID-19 Mucor mycosis. The main goal of this case study was to create a maxillofacial orbital prosthesis that is well-retained, simple to use, and accurate in terms of appearance.
