Background: Ingestion of foreign bodies results in gastrointestinal perforation in approximately 1% of patients, and fish bones are the objects that most commonly lead to bowel perforation. When it does occur, the terminal ileum is the most common site of perforation, followed by the duodenal C-loop. However, involvement of the pancreas is very rare.

Background: Breast cancer anti-estrogen resistance 4 (BCAR4) is closely associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation and propagation. However, the mechanisms underlying BCAR4 function in colon cancer remains largely unknown. In this study, we hypothesized that BCAR4 could regulate colon cancer stem/initiating cells (CSC) function and further facilitates the colon cancer progression.

The aim of the present study was to ascertain whether nuclear factor (NF)-κB Activator 1 (Act1) was involved in B cell-activating factor (BAFF) regulation in B-cell malignancy. The human B-cell malignancy cell lines Raji, Daudi and BALL-1 were cultured and the expression of BAFF receptor (BAFF-R) mRNA and protein was analyzed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting, respectively. NF-κB signaling was also assessed using western blotting.

Identifying Hub Genes for Heat Tolerance in Water Buffalo () Using Transcriptome Data.

Front Genet

March 2019

Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Agricultural Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction, College of Animal Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China.

Heat stress has a detrimental effect on the physiological and production performance of buffaloes. Elucidating the underlying mechanisms of heat stress is challenging, therefore identifying candidate genes is urgent and necessary. We evaluated the response of buffaloes ( = 30) to heat stress using the physiological parameters, ELISA indexes, and hematological parameters.

Preliminary analysis of spatial-temporal homogeneity and heterogeneity of TCR β chain CDR3 repertoires in BALB/c mice.

Int J Mol Epidemiol Genet

February 2019

Department of Immunology, Research Center for Medicine and Biology, Innovation and Practice Base for Graduate Students Education, Zunyi Medical University Zunyi 563003, China.

The T-cell response and tolerance in non-lymph tissues differs from those in lymph tissues such as the spleen and thymus. The distribution and composition of the TCR repertoires in non-lymph tissues and how they differ and associate with their counterparts in lymph tissue remain unclear. Thus, we studied the thymus, spleen, blood, liver and small intestine of BALB/c mice at the ages of one, three and five months to carry out a preliminary analysis of the spatial-temporal homogeneity and heterogeneity of the total TCR β chain CDR3 repertoire using high-throughput sequencing technology and immune bioinformatics approaches.

Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a common musculoskeletal abnormality in children, which has been characterized by unclarified pathological changes in the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) and various hypothetical etiologies. There are 2 main hypothetical etiologies for CMT in the literature: 1 infers that CMT may represent the sequela of an intrauterine or perinatal compartment syndrome, and the other regard CMT as a maldevelopment of the fetal SCM.To better understand the etiopathogenesis of CMT, we screened the necks of 1-day-old newborns that may potentially have CMT for evidence of SCM trauma or tumor.

After the publication of the article, the authors informed us that they had consent from the patients involved in the study, but not from the next‑of‑kin of the patients, for their clinical data to have been published (Fig. 1A‑E). Following on from a request made by the Ethics Committee of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College that these data either be replaced in the article, or that the article be retracted, the authors identified 10 new volunteers and asked the patients and their families to sign informed consent according to ethical requirements.

A number of studies have reported that aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) closely correlates with the bone metastasis of prostate cancer (PCa). However, clinical significance and functional roles of both strands of a single miRNA in bone metastasis of PCa remain undefined. Here, we reported that miR-582-3p and miR-582-5p expression were simultaneously reduced in bone metastatic PCa tissues compared with non-bone metastatic PCa tissues.

Objective: To clarify safety and efficacy of stent-assisted coiling for treatment of blood blister-like aneurysm (BBA) in a multicenter experience.

Methods: A total of 212 consecutive cases (213 BBAs) treated with stent-assisted coiling were retrospectively reviewed and included in the final analysis. Outcomes including complete occlusion, recurrence, perioperative morbidity and mortality, and overall good neurologic outcome during follow-up were analyzed.

Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are newly discovered tubular structures between two distant cells that facilitate the intercellular exchange of signals and components. Recent reports show that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can rescue injured target cells and promote recovery from a variety of stresses via TNT-mediated mitochondrial transfer. In this study, we explored how TNTs form between bone marrow MSCs and endothelial cells (ECs) by using a human umbilical cord vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) model.

Background And Purpose: As little is known about the effect of caffeine, one of the most widely consumed substances worldwide, on intestinal function, we aimed to study its action on intestinal anion secretion and the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Experimental Approach: Anion secretion and channel expression were examined in mouse duodenal epithelium by Ussing chambers and immunocytochemistry. Ca imaging was also performed in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs).

[Advances in the research of animal model of pressure ulcer].

Zhonghua Shao Shang Za Zhi

February 2019

Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College, Zunyi 563003, China.

Pressure ulcer is localized damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissue usually over a bony prominence as a result of prolonged pressure, shear force, and friction. The effect of external force on soft tissue is affected by many factors, such as local microenvironment, tissue blood supply, nutritional status, and underlying diseases of patients. Although great efforts have been made by mankind to prevent and treat pressure ulcer in last decades, its prevalence is still high, and the curative effect is still not impressive.

Dynamic mA mRNA methylation reveals the role of METTL3-mA-CDCP1 signaling axis in chemical carcinogenesis.

Oncogene

June 2019

Center for Translational Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, 510080, China.

N6-methyladenosine (mA) is the most abundant internal modification in mammalian mRNAs. Despite its functional importance in various physiological events, the role of mA in chemical carcinogenesis remains largely unknown. Here we profiled the dynamic mA mRNA modification during cellular transformation induced by chemical carcinogens and identified a subset of cell transformation-related, concordantly modulated mA sites.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proved to play important roles in carcinogenesis and development of numerous cancers, but their biological functions in glioblastoma remain largely unknown. In this study, we found HOXB-AS1 was highly expressed in human glioblastoma tissues and cell lines, and was associated with survival time of patients. Our results showed HOXB-AS1 knockdown inhibited proliferation via inducing S phase cell cycle arrest, and suppressed migration ability of cells.
