Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common infectious disease with high morbidity and mortality. In this study, demographic features, underlying conditions, causative pathogens and factors affecting length of hospital stay and mortality were retrospectively investigated in patients who were diagnosed as CAP and followed-up in our unit between January 2005-December 2007. Among 97 patients 65 (67%) were male, 32 (33%) were female and the mean age was 62.

Infective endocarditis has variable clinical presentations and may present with rheumatologic manifestations. Infective endocarditis due to high level aminoglycoside resistant enterococci represents a severe therapeutic challenge as none of the currently recommended treatment regimens are bactericidal against these isolates. Aim: To investigate the effect of exogenous erythro-poietin (EPO) administration on acute lung injury (ALI) in an experimental model of sodium taurodeoxycholate- induced acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP).
Methods: Forty-seven male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 7 groups: sham group (n = 5), 3 ANP groups (n = 7 each) and 3 EPO groups (n = 7 each). ANP was induced by retrograde infusion of 5% sodium taurodeoxycholate into the common bile duct.
The coexistence of fractures of the capitellum and the radial head in the elbow joint is a rare entity. A 36-year-old man presented with complaints of pain, swelling, and limited range of motion in the right elbow after a fall. Radiography, computed tomography, and three-dimensional reconstruction of computed tomography images revealed displaced and comminuted fractures in the capitellum and the radial head.

Currently, a reverse T-shaped scar remains in the infraareolar area after most of the frequently used techniques for reduction mammoplasty. A two-center study was performed for an understanding of the effects from the amount of scars on the aesthetic satisfaction of patients. Long-term follow-up results for 24 patients who underwent the McKissock (inverted T-scar) technique (group 1) in a university hospital were compared with the results for 29 patients who underwent a "no-vertical-scar technique" (group 2) at another hospital in terms of aesthetic results.
