Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo A.C.-Unidad Cuauhtémoc, Av. Río Conchos S/N, Parque Industrial, Cd. Cuauhtémoc 31570, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Epidemiological and in vitro studies suggest that dietary anthocyanins in their intact form exert beneficial effects on human health. However, the potential contributions of anthocyanin metabolites to these beneficial effects have been underestimated. The objective of this review was to critically analyze the outcomes of studies concerning the formation, identification, cellular transport, and biological actions of anthocyanin metabolites generated during digestion to formulate several premises supporting the idea that these compounds largely contribute to human health.

Spatio-temporal analyses of environmental and social criteria in the context of climate change, facilitate understanding of how historical and current conditions have influenced watershed health. Previous studies have analyzed watershed health, but very few have integrated fuzzy logic with the CRITIC method (Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation), which enables us to explore alternatives to improve watershed performance. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in watershed health through historical and projected climate change scenario in the tropical Santa Cruz watershed in Aquismón, S.

Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Facultad de Ciencias, Zona Universitaria, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Impacts of the acid mine drainage (AMD) remediation are investigated on the largest gold mine in Latin America, located in the Dominican Republic. Geochemical analysis of suspended matter in water performed in 2022 on water bodies located downstream to the mine, namely, the Margajita River and Lake Hatillo, are compared with analyses made in 2007, before the AMD remediation. The results for the Margajita River show a strong decrease in heavy metal and metalloid concentrations in the dissolved phase for Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Sb, and Pb (between 89.

Biopolymer chitosan sub-micron particles (CSMPs) were prepared by the ionic gelation technique crosslinked with sodium tripolyphosphate co-loaded with trans-cinnamaldehyde (TCIN), and either curcumin (CUR) or paclitaxel (PTX). The size of the spherical CSMPs increased from 118 nm to 136 nm and 170 nm after the loading of TCIN and CUR, whereas the loading of PTX led to a slight decrease (114 nm). Polydispersity indexes of all the samples were smaller than 0.

Clinical Significance of the Lipid Profile Ratios and Triglyceride Glucose Index in the Diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome.

Metab Syndr Relat Disord

September 2024

Unidad de Investigación Biomédica, Delegación Zacatecas, México. Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, IMSS, Zacatecas, México.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a pathophysiological condition defined by a set of metabolic alterations such as hypertriglyceridemia, hyperglycemia, hypertension, low HDL-c levels, and visceral obesity. Its presence identifies people with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes; however, the lack of practical and reliable methods for its diagnosis limits the identification of people with this condition. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the diagnostic utility of markers derived from the lipid profile [triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the ratios total cholesterol (TC)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), triglyceride (TG)/HDL-c, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/HDL-c, fasting blood glucose (FBG)/HDL-c, and white blood cell/HDL-c] in the determination of MetS.
