Background: Total knee replacement (TKR) is a common surgical solution for severe osteoarthritis. Kinematic alignment (KA) and mechanical alignment (MA) are two popular techniques. There is ongoing debate over the optimal method, influenced by varying long-term results and a scarcity of data on short-term postoperative outcomes.

In depth molecular studies are constantly expanding our understanding and refining the classification of gynecological neoplasms. rearranged spindle cell neoplasms of the lower genital tract are an emerging entity, of particular interest due to possible targeted treatment with selective kinase inhibitors. Nonetheless, surgery remains the initial treatment of choice.

Placental abruption is often referred to in the literature as a complication of preeclampsia. We report 3 recent cases where the first symptom of preeclampsia was placental abruption. All women were previously healthy and in their first ongoing pregnancy.

Two 59-year-old male patients with COVID-19 pneumonia developed pulmonary cavitation with air-fluid level, accompanied by right-sided chest pain several weeks after first onset of symptoms. Considering a possible bacterial abscess formation, both patients were started on antibiotics. No microbiological pathogen was detected in further investigations (sputum analysis, bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage and CT-guided drainage of the cavitation).

Flucloxacillin (FLU) administered by the oral route is widely used for treating various infections, but there are no published retrospective or prospective trials of its efficacy, or its advantages or disadvantages compared to parenteral treatment or other antibiotics for treating osteomyelitis. Based on published data and expert opinions, other non-β-lactam oral antibiotics that have better bone penetration are generally preferred over oral FLU. We reviewed the literature for studies of oral FLU as therapy of osteomyelitis (OM), stratified by acute versus chronic and pediatric versus adult cases.

Background: Oxygen delivery to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may be challenging because of their potential hypoxic ventilatory drive. However, some oxygen delivery systems such as non-rebreathing face masks with an oxygen reservoir bag require high oxygen flow for adequate oxygenation and to avoid carbon dioxide rebreathing.
Case Presentation: A 72-year-old Caucasian man with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was admitted to the emergency department because of worsening dyspnea and an oxygen saturation of 81% measured by pulse oximetry.

Background: COPD exacerbation incidence rates are often ascertained retrospectively through patient recall and self-reports. We compared exacerbation ascertainment through patient self-reports and single-physician chart review to central adjudication by a committee and explored determinants and consequences of misclassification.
Methods: Self-reported exacerbations (event-based definition) in 409 primary care patients with COPD participating in the International Collaborative Effort on Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease: Exacerbation Risk Index Cohorts (ICE COLD ERIC) cohort were ascertained every 6 months over 3 years.

Aim: To determine whether a newly developed respiratory rate monitor can practically and accurately monitor ventilation under propofol sedation in combination with standard monitoring.
Methods: Patients [American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Classification I-III] scheduled for elective colonoscopy under propofol sedation were monitored with a new device that measures the respiratory rate based on humidity in expired air. Patients with clinically significant cardiac disorders or pulmonary disease and patients requiring emergency procedures were excluded from study participation.

Background: In patients undergoing routine upper EGD, propofol is increasingly used without pharyngeal anesthesia because of its excellent sedative properties. It is unclear whether this practice is non-inferior in regard to ease of endoscopic intubation and patient comfort.
Objective: To assess the relevance of local pharyngeal anesthesia regarding the ease of EGD performance in patients sedated with propofol as monotherapy.
