Background: The current study aims to elucidate the key molecular mechanisms linked to endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in the pathogenesis of sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) and offer innovative therapeutic targets for SIC.

Methods: The study downloaded dataset GSE79962 from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and acquired the ERS-related gene set from GeneCards. It utilized weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and conducted differential expression analysis to identify key modules and genes associated with SIC.

December 2024

Department of Infectious Diseases, Xiangya Medical College, Zhuzhou Central Hospital (Zhuzhou Hospital, Central South University), Zhuzhou, Hunan, 412007, China.

The objective of this study was to investigate the early diagnostic value of nanopore sequencing in alveolar lavage smear-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). A prospective study was conducted on patients hospitalized at Zhuzhou Central Hospital from October 2021 to June 2022 and suspected to have PTB. Alveolar lavage fluid specimens were collected from these patients and simultaneously subjected to centrifugal bacterial collection smear method in a sandwich cup, bifidobacteria solid culture (referred to as culture), Mycobacterium tuberculosis-DNA (TB-DNA), and nanopore sequencing for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Distinct effects of physical and functional ablation of brown adipose tissue on T3-dependent pathological cardiac remodeling.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

Department of Cardiology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330006, China; Jiangxi Hypertension Research Institute, Nanchang, 330006, China; Medical College of Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330006, China. Electronic address:

Heart failure tends to deteriorate in colder climates, heightening the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. Brown adipose tissue (BAT) serves as both a thermogenic organ and an atypical site for triiodothyronine (T3) synthesis in response to cold. This study investigates the potential role of BAT in contributing to abdominal aortic constriction (AAC)-induced pathological cardiac remodeling during cold exposure.

METTL3/IGF2BP2 axis affects the progression of colorectal cancer by regulating m6A modification of STAG3.

Sci Rep

October 2023

The Department of General Surgery 2, Zhuzhou Central Hospital (Zhuzhou Hospital Affiliated to Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University), 116 Changjiang South Road, Tianyuan District, Zhuzhou, 412007, Hunan, China.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the commonest malignant tumors of humans. Existing evidence has linked the poor prognosis of CRC with high expression of stromal antigen 3 (STAG3), but, the exact biological effect of STAG3 in CRC is still unclear. The aim of this research is to reveal the biological function and molecular mechanism of STAG3 in CRC.

The targeted and novel albumin-binding strategy has been attractive in the field of cancer therapy. Herein, we have developed an organic small molecule-based photosensitizer, Evans Blue-Pyropheophorbide-alpha (EB-Ppa), to treat solid tumors with extremely high photodynamic therapeutic efficiency, which is stable in serum-containing aqueous media and can effectively accumulate in the tumor site due to the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Particularly, after the photodynamic therapeutic treatment with EB-Ppa, all breast tumors (4T1 cell line) xenografted in nude mice shrink fast due to the singlet oxygen generated by EB-Ppa with laser irradiation.

November 2022

National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases, Metabolic Syndrome Research Center, Key Laboratory of Diabetes Immunology, Ministry of Education, Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Changsha, 410011, Hunan, China.

Purpose: To perform a meta-analysis of the literature to evaluate the prevalence of cerebrovascular comorbidities between patients undergoing bariatric surgery and those not undergoing bariatric surgery.

Materials And Methods: Studies about the risk of cerebrovascular disease both before and after bariatric surgery were systematically explored in multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase, from the time of database construction to May 2022.

Results: Seventeen studies with 3,124,063 patients were finally included in the meta-analysis.

Methylprednisolone (MP) is usually used to reduce inflammation reaction and tissue damage, which may have a beneficial treatment effect on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, we present the case of a child who manifests significant bradycardia with the use of just low dose MP on the premise of the long-term use of arbidol. Arbidol can affect the activity of CYP3A4, which is also a key metabolic enzyme of MP by competitive inhibition, and which is easy to aggravate the side effects of MP.

Respiratory syncytial virus persistent infection causes acquired CFTR dysfunction in human bronchial epithelial cells.

Zhong Nan Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban

October 2021

Department of Physiology, School of Basic Medical Science, Central South University, Changsha 410013.

Objectives: Many studies have shown that respiratory syncytial virus persistent infection may be the main cause of chronic respiratory pathology. However, the mechanism is unclear. Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conduction regulator (CFTR) is an apical membrane chloride channel, which is very important for the regulation of epithelial fluid, chloride ion, and bicarbonate transport.

Objective: Our study aims to investigate the correlations of micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-566 expression with the changes in immune-related indexes and differential genes in patients with intracranial aneurysm (IA).

Methods: Aneurysm wall tissues from a total of 50 IA cases and the corresponding normal arterial wall tissues from 50 individuals were selected. The miR-566 expression, differential gene expression profile, and expression level of differential gene proteins were detected and analyzed by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), RNAseq technique and western blotting, respectively.

In this work, we present a new ratiometric fluorescent probe JNY-1 for rapid and convenient detection of HO. The probe could selectively and sensitively respond to HO within 10 min. In addition, this probe was successfully applied for monitoring and imaging of HO in liver cancer HepG2 cells under physiological conditions.
