Effects of different extracts of kanggushu on osteoporosis in model rats and the underlying mechanisms.

Objective: To investigate the preventive effects and possible underlying mechanism of different extracts of Kanggushu () on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.

Methods: One hundred and sixtyfive female SD rats were divided into 11 groups: control, sham, model, Xianling Gubao Capsule (), nilestriol, Kanggushu aqueous extract high-, medium-, and low-dose and suet extract high-, medium-, and low-dose groups. The osteoporosis model was made by ovariectomizing the rats.

[Application of isoionic microtrauma arthroscope on treatment of knee arthropathy].

Objective: To investigate the clinical application and curative effect of isoionic microtrauma arthroscope on treatment of knee arthropathy.

Methods: From May 2003 to November 2004, 52 cases of knee joint injury were cured by using isoionic microtrauma arthroscope, including 30 cases of knee osteoarthritis, 10 cases of meniscus injury, 5 cases of knee-cap dislocation, 5 cases of laxity of anterior cruciate ligation and 2 cases of rheumatoid arthritis. In accordance with Lysholm criterion for knee joint function, the scores were 35.

[A new procedure for repairing coronal or subcoronal hypospadias with severe chordee].

Objective: To introduce a new procedure for repairing coronal or subcoronal hypospadias with severe chordee.

Methods: A modified technique of elongating the anterior urethra, combined with the MAGPI procedure, was used to repair the coronal or subcoronal hypospadias in 19 severe chordee patients (aged 5 to 12 years). The fibrous bands on the ventral aspect of the penis were excised to correct the chordee.

[Effect of dahuang zhechong pill on transforming growth factor-beta 1 in hepatic stellate cells in rats].

Objective: To explore the effect of Dahuang Zhechong Pill (DHZCP) on transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) in rats hepatic stellate cells.

Methods: Liver fibrosis model rats were induced by CCl4 compound factor, and treated with DHZCP in three different dosages (ordinary, double and triple) separately. TGF-beta 1 and alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) synthesis expression, and grades of fibrosis were observed.

[Association between early-onset coronary heart disease and angiotensin II type 1 receptor gene polymorphism].

Objective: To study the association between early-onset coronary heart disease (CHD) and angiotensin II type 1 receptor (ATIR) gene A1166/C polymorphism and the effect of ATIR gene A1166/C on the plasma lipid level.

Methods: The ATIR A1166/C genotype of 71 early-onset CHD patients, 76 late-onset CHD patients, and 119 controls was examined by PCR-RFLP. Their plasma lipid levels were detected.

An experimental study on nasal absorption of gentamycin in dogs.

Drug absorptive function of the nasal mucosa has been a new and interesting subject of research in bridging rhinology and pharmacology. The authors applied a solution of gentamycin at a concentration of 40 mg/ml to 15 dogs at a dosage of 5 mg/kg for each through three routes of administration, ie, the intravenous, intramuscular and intranasal. The serum levels of gentamycin from 0 to 180 minutes after receiving the drug were determined with thin-layer scanning chromatographic method.
