Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) and nervous necrosis virus (NNV) are two common and important causative agents in marine-cultured fish. However, high viral loads of both ISKNV and NNV in the same clinical case is unusual. In this study, a mass mortality event of Asian seabass Lates calcarifer juveniles occurred in Zhuhai, the main Asian seabass cultured area in mainland China.

In this study, a ddPCR method for the detection of scale drop disease virus (SDDV) in yellowfin seabream () was established based on Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR detection methods and principles. The reaction conditions were optimized, and the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and reproducibility were assessed. The results showed that threshold line position was determined to be 1900 by the ddPCR method; the optimum annealing temperature for SDDV detection by the ddPCR method was 60°C; the limit of detection was 1.

The presence of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment poses a significant threat to ecological safety and environmental health. Widespread microplastics (MPs) have been recognized as vectors for emerging contaminants due to human activities. However, the adsorption behaviors of PFAS on MPs, especially on aged MPs, have not been extensively investigated.

Biofilm-developed microplastics (MPs) may serve as important vectors for contaminants in aquatic environments. Elucidating the interactions between biofilm-developed MPs and coexisting contaminants is crucial for understanding the vector capacities of MPs. However, little is known about how the adverse effects of contaminants on MP surface-colonized biofilms influence their vector capacity.

The genus of the family is composed of two distinct species, namely, infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) and scale drop disease virus (SDDV), and both are important causative agents in a variety of bony fish worldwide. Of them, the ISKNV species is subdivided into three genotypes, namely, red seabream iridovirus (RSIV), ISKNV, and turbot reddish body iridovirus (TRBIV), and a further six subgenotypes, RSIV-I, RSIV-II, ISKNV-I, ISKNV-II, TRBIV-I, and TRBIV-II. Commercial vaccines derived from RSIV-I , RSIV-II and ISKNV-I have been available to several fish species.

During colonization of soil and plants, biocontrol bacteria can effectively regulate the physiological metabolism of plants and induce disease resistance. To illustrate the influence of R31 on the quality, transcriptome and metabolome of sweet corn, field studies were conducted at a corn experimental base in Zhuhai City. The results show that, after application of R31, sweet corn was more fruitful, with a 18.

Article Synopsis
  • Phosphofructokinase (PFK) is a crucial enzyme in glycolysis, and researchers have cloned and studied a specific PFK gene (SpPFK) from the mud crab Scylla paramamosain.
  • The SpPFK gene consists of 249 bp of 5' UTR, a 2,859 bp open reading frame, and 1,248 bp of 3' UTR, with high expression levels in the gill, hemocytes, and muscle, especially after infection with mud crab dicistrovirus-1 (MCDV-1).
  • Knocking down SpPFK through RNA interference was shown to lower lactate dehydrogenase levels, enhance survival rates in

Scale drop disease virus (SDDV), an emerging piscine iridovirus prevalent in farmed Asian seabass in Southeast Asia, was firstly scientifically descripted in Singapore in 2015. Here, an SDDV isolate ZH-06/20 was isolated by inoculating filtered ascites from diseased juvenile yellowfin seabream into MFF-1 cell. Advanced cytopathic effects were observed 6 days post-inoculation.

In maize, the ear shank is a short branch that connects the ear to the stalk. The length of the ear shank mainly affects the transportation of photosynthetic products to the ear, and also influences the dehydration of the grain by adjusting the tightness of the husks. However, the molecular mechanisms of maize shank elongation have rarely been described.

Epistasis plays an important role in manipulating rice tiller number, but epistatic mechanism still remains a challenge. Here we showed the process of epistatic analysis between tillering QTLs. A half diallel mating scheme was conducted based on 6 single segment substitution lines and 9 dual segment pyramiding lines to allow the analysis of 4 epistatic components.

November 2020

Guangxi Key Laboratory for Aquatic Genetic Breeding and Healthy Aquaculture, Guangxi Academy of Fishery Sciences, Nanning, 530021, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Streptococcus iniae is a significant pathogen affecting farmed fish, and the study explores an attenuated vaccine, YM011, for its prevention.
  • The strain YM011 showed no pathogenicity in tilapia and demonstrated high immunogenicity, achieving relative survival rates of 93.25% and 90.31% after injection, and 76.81% and 56.69% after oral administration.
  • Genomic analysis revealed a 0.4 M large inversion in YM011, impacting genes related to virulence and drug resistance, highlighting this strain as a promising candidate for safe and effective vaccination.

No genomic sequence of Mycobacterium isolated from orchids has been reported yet; therefore, this study intends to analyze the complete genomic sequence of a growth-promoting Mycobacterium from orchid Doritaenopsis. Mycobacterium strain Mya-zh01 was isolated from the flower stalk of Doritaenopsis Jiuhbao Red Rose. Our results show that Mya-zh01 can effectively produce and secrete the plant growth hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA).

Our previous study showed that human-derived Streptococcus agalactiae (serotype V) could infect tilapia, but the mechanism underlying the cross-species infection remains unrecognized. In this study, a multi-omics analysis was performed on human-derived S.agalactiae strain NNA048 (virulent to tilapia, serotype V, ST1) and human-derived S.

Identification of germ cell markers is important for investigating reproduction biology in fish. Vasa is one of the most studied germ cell markers in mammals and lower vertebrates including fish. Here, we characterized a vasa homologue from the fish marbled goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata), termed omvasa.
