Intrauterine adhesions (IUA) may lead to abnormal menstruation, infertility, and pregnancy-related complications. Hysteroscopic separation is the gold standard treatment for IUA and can be performed using a variety of instruments and methods, including cold scissors and electrotomy. However, it is unclear which method is more effective for relieving IUA, restoring uterine anatomy, and improving the pregnancy rate in women of childbearing age.

Three-arm polyrotaxanes with multidirectional molecular motions as the nanocarrier for nitric oxide-enhanced photodynamic therapy against bacterial biofilms in septic arthritis.

J Nanobiotechnology

November 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Spine and Spinal Cord Reconstruction, The Fifth Affiliated Hospital (Heyuan Shenhe People's Hospital), Jinan University, Heyuan, 517000, China.

Bacterial biofilms are one of the major contributors to the refractoriness of septic arthritis. Although nitric oxide (NO)-enhanced photodynamic (PDT) therapy has been involved in biofilm eradication, the anti-biofilm efficacy is usually hindered by the short half-life and limited diffusion distance of active molecules. Herein, we report a three-arm structure using the photosensitive core chlorin e6 to integrate three α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) polyrotaxane chains as the supramolecular nanocarrier of NO-enhanced PDT therapy, in which NO was loaded on the cationic rings (α-CDs).

Mol Divers

October 2024

Shandong Peninsula Engineering Research Center of Comprehensive Brine Utilization, Weifang University of Science and Technology, Weifang, 262700, China.

Capsaicin is a natural product with multiple biological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, weight loss, anti-cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention. However, its further applications have been limited by its strong irritation, poor water solubility, and unsatisfied pharmacological effects. To ameliorate the problem, a series of derivatives of capsaicin and its analogues were designed and synthesized.

  • Pulmonary infections from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remain a significant health risk for infants and the elderly, and current treatments are limited to symptom management.
  • This study investigates the potential of Leaf (FSL), which has shown anti-RSV properties, by evaluating its active components and mechanisms using a mouse model of RSV infection.
  • Results indicate that the active component Phillyrin in FSL effectively reduces RSV replication and controls associated inflammatory responses, improving overall pathological conditions in infected mice.

Purpose: Sepsis often leads to a cluster of life-threatening symptoms affecting multiple organ systems. Among the organs most vulnerable to damage in this state is the kidney; those afflicted with severe sepsis frequently encounter acute kidney injury (AKI). The study was to investigate the diagnostic role of miR-625-5p in sepsis and sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SI-AKI) and predict the possible pathways of miR-625-5p involved in SI-AKI by bioinformatics method.

  • Osteoporosis is linked to reduced bone mass, and the study focuses on the role of LINC01133 in promoting the differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) into bone-forming cells.
  • Researchers analyzed the expression of LINC01133 and related genes in osteoporosis patients and found that lower levels of LINC01133 and CTNNB1 correspond to the condition, while their levels rise during osteogenic differentiation in hBMSCs.
  • The study suggests that LINC01133 helps regulate CTNNB1 by inhibiting miR-214-3p, which supports bone formation and offers insights that could aid in developing treatments for osteoporosis.

Purpose: To investigate the application value of support vector machine (SVM) model based on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) and amide proton transfer- weighted (APTW) imaging in predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase 1(IDH-1) mutation and Ki-67 expression in glioma.

Methods: The DWI, DCE and APTW images of 309 patients with glioma confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed and divided into the IDH-1 group (IDH-1(+) group and IDH-1(-) group) and Ki-67 group (low expression group (Ki-67 ≤ 10%) and high expression group (Ki-67 > 10%)). All cases were divided into the training set, and validation set according to the ratio of 7:3.

Infections caused by pathogenic Escherichia coli are a serious threat to human health, while conventional antibiotic susceptibility tests (AST) have a long turn-around time, and rapid antibiotic susceptibility methods are urgently needed to save lives in the clinic, reduce antibiotic misuse and prevent emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We optimized and validated the feasibility of a novel rapid AST based on SYBR Green I and Propidium Iodide (SGPI-AST) for E. coli drug susceptibility test.

Ovarian endometriosis is a common gynecological disease, and one of its most significant symptoms is infertility. In patients with endometriosis, defects in endometrial decidualization lead to impaired endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation, thus affecting early pregnancy and women's desire to have children. However, the mechanisms underlying the development of endometriosis and its associated defective decidualization are unclear.

  • The study aims to identify risk factors associated with the persistence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and the chances of residual lesions or recurrence after loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), focusing on the predictive value of intraoperative HPV testing.
  • Researchers collected endocervical samples from 292 patients after LEEP, conducting HPV genotyping and monitoring patients every 3-6 months to evaluate various risk factors.
  • Findings showed that positive intraoperative HPV tests, being post-menopausal, and having preoperative HPV multiplex infections were significant predictors of HPV persistence and potential recurrence, indicating that IOP-HPV testing could help identify high-risk patients for more tailored follow-up.
