Objective: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is one of the leading causes of facial pain and seriously affects patients' quality of life. Foramen ovale (FO) radiofrequency thermocoagulation is a classic approach for the treatment of TN that has failed pharmacological therapy. This study summarized the safety and efficacy of transforaminal radiofrequency thermocoagulation for TN by comparing puncture approaches or guidance techniques, thereby providing higher-quality clinical evidence.

Background: Existing studies indicate that some computed tomography perfusion (CTP) parameters may predict hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after acute ischemic stroke (AIS), but there is an inconsistency in the conclusions alongside a lack of comprehensive comparison. Objective: To comprehensively evaluate the predictive value of CTP parameters in HT after AIS. Data sources: A systematical literature review of existing studies was conducted up to 1st October 2022 in six mainstream databases that included original data on the CTP parameters of HT and non-HT groups or on the diagnostic performance of relative cerebral blood flow (rCBF), relative permeability-surface area product (rPS), or relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) in patients with AIS that completed CTP within 24 h of onset.

Characterization of cross-reactive monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2: Implication for rational design and development of pan-sarbecovirus vaccines and neutralizing antibodies.

J Med Virol

February 2023

Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology (MOE/NHC/CAMS), Shanghai Institute of Infectious Disease and Biosecurity, Shanghai Frontiers Science Center of Pathogenic Microbes and Infection, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Emergence of various circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) promotes the identification of pan-sarbecovirus vaccines and broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs). Here, to characterize monoclonal antibodies cross-reactive against both SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 and to search the criterion for bNAbs against all emerging SARS-CoV-2, we isolated several SARS-CoV-1-cross-reactive monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from a wildtype SARS-CoV-2 convalescent donor. These antibodies showed broad binding capacity and cross-neutralizing potency against various SARS-CoV-2 VOCs, including B.

Chemotherapy is a common method for tumor treatment. However, the non-specific distribution of chemotherapeutic drugs causes the death of normal cells. Nanocarriers, particularly mesoporous carriers, can be modified to achieve targeted and controlled drug release.

Formulations from nanotechnology platform promote therapeutic drug delivery and offer various advantages such as biocompatibility, non-inflammatory effects, high therapeutic output, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and biocompatibility in comparison with free drug delivery. Due to inherent shortcomings of conventional drug delivery to cancerous tissues, alternative nanotechnological-based approaches have been developed for such ailments. Ovarian cancer is the leading gynecological cancer with higher mortality rates due to its reoccurrence and late diagnosis.

Background: The multi-site practice (MSP) policy has been practiced in China over 10 years. This study aimed to investigate the safety and feasibility of performing laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer (LSCRC) and gastric cancer (LSGC) under the Chinese MSP policy.

Methods: We collected and analysed the data from 1,081 patients who underwent LSCRC or LSGC performed by one gastrointestinal surgeon in his original hospital ( = 573) and his MSP institutions ( = 508) between January 2017 and December 2020.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the most common cancers in women, with a high mortality rate and very few available and effective treatments. Evidence shows that immunotherapy in OC has not been very successful because immune checkpoint blockers have not achieved satisfactory clinical outcomes. On the other hand, as one of the effective treatment approaches, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T-cell) therapy has gained a moral position, especially in blood malignancies.

Background: RNA-binding protein Quaking-5 (QKI-5), a major isoform of QKIs, inhibits tumor progression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of QKI-5 in the cell cycle of NSCLC are still largely unknown.

Methods: MTT, flow cytometry, and colony formation assays were used to investigate cellular phenotypic changes.

Apigenin (APG) is a flavonoid presence in beverages, vegetables, and fruits containing anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, and anti-viral activities, as well as cancer management properties. There is growing evidence that APG presented extensive anti-cancer effects in several cancer types by modulating various cellular processes, including angiogenesis, apoptosis, metastasis, autophagy, cell cycle, and immune responses, through activation or inhibition of different cell signaling pathways and molecules. By emerging nanotechnology and its advent in the biomedicine field, cancer therapy has been changed based on nanotechnology-based delivery systems.

New evidence suggests that the clinical success of chemotherapy is not merely due to tumor cell toxicity but also arises from the restoration of immunosurveillance, which has been immensely neglected in previous preclinical and clinical researches. There is an urgent need for novel insights into molecular mechanisms and regimens that uplift the efficacy of immunotherapy since only a minority of cancer patients are responsive to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Recent findings on combination therapy of chemotherapy and ICIs have shown promising results.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the seventh most common malignancy in women globally. This type of cancer can occur at any age, but it is more frequent in women over 50 and is usually diagnosed late. Despite platinum-based chemotherapy and optimal cytoreductive surgery, OC cells tend to metastasize, and patients with OC experience recurrent relapses and poor prognosis.

Hypertension is one of the main adverse effects of antiangiogenic tumor drugs and thus limits their application. The mechanism of hypertension caused by tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting vascular endothelial growth factors is mainly related to inhibition of the nitric oxide (NO) pathway and activation of the endothelin pathway, as well as vascular rarefaction and increased salt sensitivity; consequently, prevention and treatment differ for this type of hypertension compared with primary hypertension. Apatinib is a highly selective TKI approved in China for the treatment of advanced or metastatic gastric cancer.
