Background: STAT3 plays an important role in cervical cancer. LC3B, the most potential molecular biomarker of autophagy that may promote or inhibit cancer progression, can be downregulated by STAT3. However the role of STAT3 in the autophagy of cervical cancer remains unclear.

Copy number variation analysis of m A regulators identified METTL3 as a prognostic and immune-related biomarker in bladder cancer.

Cancer Med

November 2021

Department of Gastric Surgery, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, China, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: Growing evidence has demonstrated an indispensable role for N -methyladenosine (m A) in human diseases, but the copy number variations (CNVs) of m A regulatory genes in bladder cancer (BLCA) remains largely unknown.

Methods: We investigated the CNVs on all known m A regulatory genes using the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The association between CNV events and clinicopathological as well as molecular characteristics of BLCA patients were explored.

MicroRNAs (miRNA) have been shown to be associated with tumor diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic response. MiR-328-3p plays a significant role in breast cancer growth; however, its actual function and how it modulates specific biological functions is poorly understood. Here, miR-328-3p was significantly downregulated in breast cancer, especially in patients with metastasis.

Multi-omics analysis of copy number variations of RNA regulatory genes in soft tissue sarcoma.

Life Sci

January 2021

Clinical Research Centre, Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China; Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia. Electronic address:

Aims: RNA regulatory genes were closely associated with tumorigenesis and prognosis in multiple tumors. Copy number variation (CNV) is a frequent characteristic in soft tissue sarcomas (STS). However, little is known regarding their possible roles in STS.

Exendin-4 attenuates cardiac hypertrophy via AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway activation.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

March 2016

Department of Cardiology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510080, China; Key Laboratory on Assisted Circulation Ministry of Health, Guangzhou 510080, China. Electronic address:

Diabetes mellitus is a prominent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Diabetic cardiomyopathy is an important complication of the heart independent of hypertension and coronary artery disease and is accompanied by cardiac hypertrophy. Cardiac hypertrophy easily leads to heart failure, which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality.

Objective: To study the regulation effects of CR (caloric restriction) and SIRT3 in the H2O2-induced oxidative stress injury of PC12 cell.

Methods: The cells were divided into four groups: H2O2, H2O2 + CR, CR and control (high glucose). For control and H2O2 group, cells were cultured in DMEM containing 0.

Objective: To investigate the subcellular localization of ATP synthase b subunit from Clonorchis sinensis under different conditions of Hela cell cycling, and the effect of this protein on the expression of its encoding-gene and homologous host genes.

Methods: pEGFP-N1-CsATP-synt_B and the vector pEGFP-N1 were transfected into Hela cells, respectively. Transfected cells were synchronized in G0/G1 by serum starvation, G1/S, S cells by double thymidine block, and G2/M cells by thymidine-Nocodozale block.

[A new method for calculating paternity index].

Fa Yi Xue Za Zhi

August 2009

Department of Forensic Biology, Zhongshan Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510089, China.

Objective: To introduce a new method for calculating the paternity index (PI).

Methods: Assuming that each allele from parents has undergone a transition before it segregates and transmits to child. The transition probability is 1 when parent allele is the same as child's, the transition probability is 0 when parent allele is different from the child's.

Objective: To clone and express the Clonorchis sinensis F0-ATP synthase b chain (CsF0-ATP-synt_B) gene and analyze immunogenicity of the recombinant protein.

Methods: The coding region F0-ATP synthase b chain gene with the mitochondrial targeting sequence (MTS) removed was amplified with PCR using the cloned plasmid as template, and the product was cloned into the prokaryotic expression vector pET-28a(+), transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3) and induced with IPTG.

Objective: To evaluate the diversity of combined paternity index (CPI) of multiple STR loci when different population allele frequencies was used to calculate the paternity index.

Methods: CPI of 13 CODIS (combined DNA index system) loci for 108 trio cases and 108 duo cases selected randomly were calculated by using five Chinese Han population allele frequencies, respectively.

Results: The CPI range for trio cases and duo cases were 2077.

To investigate the subpopulation structure within the Han Population in Guandong area, a total of 471 DNA samples from five populations in Guandong Province, including Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Jiangmen and Zhongshan-Zhuhai region, were genotyped at 15 STR(short tandem repeats) markers. Hardy-Weinberg tests were performed, allele frequencies were compared, and the genetic coancestry coefficient(FST) was estimated. The results did not show significant departure from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the total population.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of ERK on 17beta-estradiol (E(2)) inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation in rats after vascular injury. Common carotid artery balloon-injury (Inj) model was established in ovariectomized rats (OVX). Female SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: OVX, E(2)+OVX, OVX+Inj, and E(2)+OVX+Inj groups.
