Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a molecular subtype of breast cancer with high aggressiveness and poor prognosis. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are major components of the TNBC microenvironment and play an important role in tumor progression and treatment responses. Our goal is to identify specific CAFs subpopulations contributing to TNBC development.

Background: Evidence on maintenance therapy following frontline induction is sparse in primary light-chain amyloidosis (AL), especially for those who do not undergo autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT).
Methods: We enrolled primary AL patients who achieved at least haematologic very good partial response (VGPR) by the 4th month at the frontline from December 2008 to June 2023 at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. Those who followed maintenance therapy were identified as the maintenance group ( = 44), whereas those entering the observational phase were classified as the observational group ( = 24).

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is known to provoke devastating anomalies in myocardial structure and function, while effective therapeutic regimen is still lacking. The selective protease inhibitor UCF101 (5-[5-(2-nitrophenyl) furfuryl iodine]-1,3-diphenyl-2-thiobarbituric acid) has been shown to fend off ischemic heart injury, although its impact on diabetic cardiomyopathy remains elusive.
Methods: Our present work was conducted to examine the effect of UCF101 on experimental diabetes-evoked cardiac geometric and functional abnormalities as well as mechanisms involved.

Cellular metabolism influences all aspects of cellular function and is crucial for overall organismal health. Metabolic disorders related to cardiovascular health can lead to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Moreover, associated comorbidities may also damage cardiovascular metabolism, exacerbating CVD and perpetuating a vicious cycle.

Epicardial adipose tissue, or epicardial fat, is a type of visceral fat located between the heart and the pericardium. Due to its anatomical proximity to the heart, EAT plays a significant role in both cardiac physiology and pathologies, including cardiac remodeling and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, our understanding of how EAT pathology is influenced by risk factors such as obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus and how altered EAT can drive cardiac remodeling and CVD, remains limited.

Background: Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a pivotal intervention for managing esophagogastric variceal bleeding in patients with chronic hepatic schistosomiasis.
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of digital subtraction angiography image overlay technology (DIT) in guiding the TIPS procedure.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent TIPS at our hospital, comparing outcomes between an ultrasound-guided group and a DIT-guided group.

Background: GlcNAc2-epimerase (GNE) myopathy is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the gene, which is essential for the sialic acid biosynthesis pathway.
Objective: This multi-centre study aimed to delineate the clinical phenotype and variant spectrum in Chinese patients, enhancing our understanding of the genetic diversity and clinical manifestation across different populations.
Methods: We retrospectively analysed variants from 113 patients, integrating these data with external variants from online databases for a global perspective, examining their consequences, distribution, ethnicity and severity.

Here we report for the first time an extremely rare case of esophageal metastatic adenocarcinoma resembling esophageal leiomyoma leading to misdiagnosis. The case gives us great insights that in any esophageal stenosis with normal mucosa, metastasis must be contemplated as a differential diagnosis, especially in patients with a history of cancer.

Introduction: The head and neck comprise vital organs and are apparent human body parts. Tumours here impair physical and sensory functions as well as appearance and social interactions, leading to body image distress (BID) and threatening mental health and quality of life. Acceptance and commitment therapy has shown effectiveness in improving BID in groups such as breast cancer patients.

Introduction: Ligamentum flavum haematoma (LFH) is an extremely rare entity, found mostly in the lumbar and thoracic ligamentum flavum and seldom in the cervical ligamentum flavum. Cervical LFH can cause paralysis in patients. We describe a case of LFH in the cervical spine that accepted surgical treatment.

Chronic caloric restriction triggers unfavorable alterations in cardiac function albeit responsible scenarios remain unclear. This work evaluated the possible involvement of Akt2 in caloric restriction-evoked cardiac geometric and functional changes and responsible processes focusing on autophagy and mitophagy. Akt2 knockout and WT mice were subjected to caloric restriction for 30 weeks prior to assessment of myocardial homeostasis.

This study aimed to investigate the optimal head position (OHP) following intratympanic injection, a critical intervention in treating inner ear disorders. Identifying OHP is essential to maximize drug retention in the middle ear, thereby significantly enhancing the therapeutic efficacy by mitigating the significant issue of injectate leakage through the eustachian tube (ET). Exploratory various positions of ET orifice and round window (RW) were investigated and associated with head movements.

Purpose: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) is being increasingly used for the treatment of right-sided colon cancer, although there is still no strong evidence that CME provides better long-term oncological outcomes than D2 dissection. The controversy is mainly regarding the survival benefit from extended lymph node dissection emphasized by CME.
Methods: This multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.
Introduction: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is among the most severe cardiovascular disorders worldwide. Timely and appropriate diagnosis of PE remains an important step in reducing PE related mortality and morbidity.
Methods: In this retrospective single-center cohort study, we comprehensively compared the screening performances of several clinical scoring systems (Wells score [WS], Revised Geneva score [RGS], WS + d-Dimer [D-D], RGS + D-D, WS + PE rule-out criteria [PERC] and RGS + PERC) among PE suspected patients.

Background: Postoperative recovery in lung cancer patients is a complex process, where breathing exercises may play a crucial role in enhancing pulmonary function and quality of life (QoL). This study systematically reviews and meta-analyzes the impact of breathing exercises on post-surgical lung function and QoL in lung cancer patients.
Methods: An extensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Embase databases using terms like "Lung Neoplasms", "breathing exercises", and "randomized controlled trial", supplemented by Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and free words.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a common chemotherapeutic agent in cancer therapy, is accompanied by pronounced cardiotoxicity. Ferroptosis has been implicated in the pathogenesis and therapeutics of DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC). Asiatic acid (AA), a pentacyclic triterpene from the Chinese medicinal herb Centella asiatica, displays antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic activities.
