Purpose: Pseudomonas plecoglossicida belongs to the Pseudomonas putida group and is a common aquatic pathogen that induces visceral lesions in fish. However, it has never been previously isolated from human specimen and associated with human infections. In the study, we first investigated the pathogenicity of Pseudomonas plecoglossicida strain "SXY" isolated from a child with infectious pneumonia.

May 2024

Department of Medical Statistics, School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University, 510080 Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopment disease characterized by impaired social and cognitive abilities. Despite its prevalence, reliable biomarkers for identifying individuals with ASD are lacking. Recent studies have suggested that alterations in the functional connectivity of the brain in ASD patients could serve as potential indicators.

An imbalanced gut microflora may contribute to immune disorders in neonates due to an immature gut barrier. Bacterial toxins, particularly, can trigger the immune system, potentially resulting in uncontrolled gut and systemic inflammation. Previous research has revealed that Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.

Human infections caused by , an environmental bacterium, are infrequent, with only two cases related to uncommon urinary tract infections and bacteremia reported in recent years. All these cases typically occurred in elderly patients with compromised or decreased immune function. Simultaneously, the epithelial barrier disruption induced by invasive biopsy procedures or gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroenteritis provided a pathway for to infiltrate the organism.

Caenorhabditis elegans as an in vivo model for the identification of natural antioxidants with anti-aging actions.

Biomed Pharmacother

November 2023

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods, College of Food Science, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510640, China; Guangdong Laboratory for Lingnan Modern Agriculture, Guangzhou 510640, China. Electronic address:

Natural antioxidants have recently emerged as a highly exciting and significant topic in anti-aging research. Diverse organism models present a viable protocol for future research. Notably, many breakthroughs on natural antioxidants have been achieved in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, an animal model frequently utilized for the study of aging research and anti-aging drugs in vivo.

Objectives: It is now well known that Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (B. lactis), an important early-life colonizer of the gut, provides immune-related benefits to infants.

Immune system maturation begins early in life, but few studies have examined how early-life gut microbiota colonization educates the neonatal immune system. Bifidobacteria predominate in the intestines of breastfed infants and metabolize human milk oligosaccharides. This glycolytic activity alters the intestinal microenvironment and consequently stimulates immune system maturation at the neonatal stage.

Objective: To study the value of transesophageal atrial pacing (TEAP) in neonates with tachyarrhythmia.

Methods: The clinical data of 26 neonates with tachyarrhythmia who underwent TEAP electrophysiological examination or cardioversion were collected.

Results: Of the 26 neonates, 15(58%) were diagnosed with atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia, 3(12%) were diagnosed with sinus tachycardia, 3(12%) were diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia, 2(8%) were diagnosed with fast/slow atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, 2(8%) were diagnosed with atrial tachycardia, and 1(4%) was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia with ventricular preexcitation.

Objective: To study the risk factors for moderate and severe iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in infants aged 6-12 months, and to preliminarily investigate the effects of IDA on the neuromotor development and temperament characteristics of infants.

Methods: A total of 326 infants aged 6-12 months with IDA were classified into three groups: mild IDA (n=176), moderate IDA (n=111), and severe IDA (n=39) according to the severity of anemia. The risk factors for moderate or severe IDA were investigated by multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence, current treatment, and clinical characteristics of asthma, as well as the risk factors for this disease, among children aged 0-14 years in 2010 in urban Zhongshan, China.

Methods: A total of 10 336 children aged 0-14 years were selected from urban Zhongshan by cluster random sampling. The Third National Childhood Asthma Epidemiological Questionnaire 2010 was used to analyze the prevalence, current treatment, and clinical characteristics of childhood asthma, as well as the risk factors for this disease.

Article Synopsis
  • Human adipose-derived stem cells from breast tissue (hbASCs) were isolated and characterized to explore their potential in stem cell research and therapy.
  • These hbASCs showed specific surface markers relevant for their classification and were capable of differentiating into various cell types like adipocytes and osteocytes.
  • Additionally, using activated autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) significantly enhanced the hbASCs' growth and their conversion into mammary gland-like epithelial cells, suggesting a promising avenue for breast reconstruction applications.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between MD-1 gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and bronchial asthma in adults of the Han nationality in Southern China as well as their lung functions.

Methods: From 2006 to 2010, 332 adult asthmatic patients of the Han nationality diagnosed in Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, and 276 healthy volunteers were recruited for the study. The SNPs of MD-1 gene loci rs2233128 and rs7740529 were genotyped by using MassARRAY-IPLEX technology and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry platform (MALDI-TOF-MS).
