Background: Childhood Cancer Survivors (CCSs) are more likely to report sexual dysfunction than people without cancer history. Sexual functioning encompasses more than just sexual dysfunction. The scarcity of information regarding the status and influencing factors of sexual functioning in CCSs, hampers to devise suitable screening or interventions.

Background: Anxiety-driven clinical interventions have been queried due to the nondeterminacy of pure ground-glass nodules (pGGNs). Although radiomics and radiogenomics aid diagnosis, standardization and reproducibility challenges persist. We aimed to assess a risk score system for invasive adenocarcinoma in pGGNs.

The aim of this research is to establish and validate a prognostic model for predicting prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with bone metastases. Overall, 176 NSCLC patients with bone metastases were retrospectively evaluated in the research. We employed the LASSO-Cox regression method to select the candidate indicators for predicting the prognosis among NSCLC patients complicated with bone metastases.

Our objective was to examine the impact of elective neck dissection (END) on the prognosis of patients with cT2N0 maxillary sinus squamous cell carcinoma (MS-SCC) and to determine factors that predict the occurrence of occult metastasis in this patient population. A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from the SEER database. Patients with cT2N0 MS-SCC were included in the study and divided into two groups: those who received END and those who did not.

Erythropoiesis occurs first in the yolk sac as a transit "primitive" form, then is gradually replaced by the "definitive" form in the fetal liver (FL) during fetal development and in the bone marrow (BM) postnatally. While it is well known that differences exist between primitive and definitive erythropoiesis, the similarities and differences between FL and BM definitive erythropoiesis have not been studied. Here we performed comprehensive comparisons of erythroid progenitors and precursors at all maturational stages sorted from E16.

Mechanisms of resistance to trastuzumab in HER2-positive gastric cancer.

Chin J Cancer Res

June 2024

Department of Oncology, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University & Henan Cancer Hospital, Henan Engineering Research Center of Precision Therapy of Gastrointestinal Cancer, Zhengzhou Key Laboratory for Precision Therapy of Gastrointestinal Cancer, Zhengzhou 450008, China.

Gastric cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive cases account for approximately 20% of the total cases. Currently, trastuzumab + chemotherapy is the recommended first-line treatment for patients with HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer, and the combination has exhibited definite efficacy in HER2-targeted therapy. However, the emergence of drug resistance during treatment considerably reduces its effectiveness; thus, it is imperative to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how effective a combination of thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) and sufentanil-based multimodal analgesia is in managing pain and preserving cognitive function in patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery for lung cancer.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 107 patients to compare postoperative pain scores and cognitive function using tests like the Ramsay Sedation Scale and Mini-Mental State Examination at various time intervals post-surgery.
  • Results showed no significant differences in sedation or pain scores between the two groups, indicating that the combination treatment didn't provide added benefits for postoperative pain management or cognitive preservation.

  • Patients with emphysema have a higher risk of pneumothorax when undergoing lung biopsies, but needle embolization might help reduce this risk.
  • This study examined two groups of emphysema patients: one group had no embolization, while the other had tract embolization during their biopsies, with over 1,000 patients analyzed in total.
  • Results showed that embolization led to a significantly lower rate of pneumothorax and the need for chest tubes, suggesting it is an effective preventive measure in high-risk patients.

MA-mediated upregulation of lncRNA TUG1 in liver cancer cells regulates the antitumor response of CD8 T cells and phagocytosis of macrophages.

Tumor immune evasion relies on the crosstalk between tumor cells and adaptive/innate immune cells. Immune checkpoints play critical roles in the crosstalk, and immune checkpoint inhibitors have achieved promising clinical effects. The long non-coding RNA taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

This retrospective study analysed 106 acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients undergoing autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) to assess the impact of multiple small-dose infusions of granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilized haploidentical lymphocytes as post-ASCT maintenance therapy. Among them, 50 patients received lymphocyte maintenance therapy, 21 received alternative maintenance therapy, and 35 received no maintenance therapy. Patients receiving lymphocyte maintenance therapy demonstrated significantly higher overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) compared to those without maintenance therapy, with 4-year OS and DFS rates notably elevated.

  • * Although MDCT is commonly used for staging esophageal cancer, it is less accurate for T staging compared to MRI, which can better visualize the esophagus and adjacent organs.
  • * MRI can help differentiate between various esophageal masses, such as high-grade neoplasia versus invasive cancer, and has specific features for esophageal GISTs and malignant melanoma, highlighting its critical role in diagnosis.

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100021, China. Electronic address:

Background: Chemotherapeutic agents including cisplatin, gemcitabine, and pemetrexed, significantly enhance the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by increasing PD-L1 expression and potentiating T cell cytotoxicity. However, the low response rate and adverse effects limit the application of chemotherapy/ICI combinations in patients.

Methods: We screened for medicinal herbs that could perturb PD-L1 expression and enhance T cell cytotoxicity in the presence of anti-PD-L1 antibody, and investigated the underlying mechanisms.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the leukemia with the worst prognosis, and current knowledge of AML pathogenesis and available therapies for AML remain limited. 40% of AML patients exhibit elevated nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activity, which provides a compelling rationale for targeting the NF-κB pathway in AML. Guanine nucleotide-binding protein-like 3-like protein (GNL3L) is a recently identified pro-oncogene that promotes NF-κB activation in a variety of malignancies.
