Enhanced tetracycline degradation through electron transfer activated by Bacillus cereus synthesized bio-FeS nanoparticles.

J Hazard Mater

March 2025

Shandong Engineering Research Centre for Pollution Control and Resource Valorization in Chemical Industry, College of Environment and Safety Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, 53 Zhengzhou Road, Qingdao 266042, China.

The synthesis of bio-FeS nanoparticles (NPs) was generally using Gram-negative bacteria and mostly in anaerobic systems, thus limiting their application in the degradation of toxic wastewater. In this study, we successfully synthesized bio-FeS NPs for the first time using the resilient Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus cereus, with the objective of investigating the mechanism of promoting electron transfer in the aerobic/anaerobic degradation of tetracycline (TC). The degradation efficiency of TC was increased by 2.

PpSPL1 and PpSPL15 inhibit peach branching by directly binding to and upregulating the expression of strigolactone (SL) synthesis gene PpLBO1. Branch number is a crucial agronomic trait that influences tree architecture, directly affecting fruit yield and quality. It remains unknown whether SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE (SPL), an important transcription factor in determining plant architecture, is involved in the peach branching process.

Herein, we report a method that significantly enhances the atom economy of catalysts in living polymerization. By introducing intermittent, switchable chain-transfer reactions during the polymerization process, multiple regenerations of the catalyst are achieved while preserving the "living"/controlled characteristics. The specially designed catalytic system, composed of 1,2-dipyrrolidinoethane/n-butyllithium/n-butylpotassium/toluene, exhibits a chain-transfer rate that is highly sensitive to temperature.

Anxiety is highly prevalent among cancer patients, significantly impacting their prognosis. Current cancer therapies typically lack anxiolytic properties and may even exacerbate anxiety. Here, a gasotransmitter-nanodonors (GND) system is presented that exerts dual anxiolytic and anti-tumor effects via a "tumor-brain axis" strategy.

3D Printed Low-Tortuosity and Ultra-Thick Hierarchical Porous Electrodes for High-Performance Wearable Quasi-Solid-State Zn-VOH Batteries.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Material Physics of Ministry of Education, School of Physics and Microelectronics, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, 450052, China.

Rechargeable aqueous Zn-ion batteries have received considerable attention in energy storage systems owing to their merits of high safety, low cost, and excellent rate performance. However, the unsatisfactory areal energy density and poor cycling performance hinder their practical applications. Herein, the VO·6HO (VOH) nanosheet arrays and Zn nanoflake arrays growing on the 3D-printed reduced graphene oxide/carbon nanotubes (3DP-rGO/CNTs) microlattices employing the electrodeposition technique, and further serve as the cathode and anode for 3D-printed aqueous Zn-VOH battery, respectively.

Chinese Position Paper on Biologic Therapy for Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps.

Allergy

March 2025

Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Beijing TongRen Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Emerging biologics that selectively target key cytokines present a promising therapeutic alternative for patients suffering from severe, uncontrollable chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Despite the limited availability of registered biologics for CRSwNP treatment in China, the country is experiencing rapid development in this field. It is imperative to standardize the application of biologic agents in CRSwNP management in preparation for their future integration into the CRSwNP care pathway.

Research on optimal allocation of water and land resources in the Yiluo River Basin, China.

iScience

February 2025

State Key Laboratory of Simulation and Regulation of Water Cycle in River Basin, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing 100038, China.

The allocation of water and land resources (WLRs) has adhered to a system where they "serve as boundaries for each other," posing challenges in satisfying the exacting management requirements for these resources in the contemporary era. In line with precise predictions of the future WLRs, the optimal allocation framework of WLRs was constructed to obtain the rational configuration scheme. The prediction results showed that the imbalance between supply and demand of WLRs will intensify in the Yiluo River Basin.

Objective: This study investigates the reinforcing effects and monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A) inhibitory properties of heated tobacco products (HTPs), comparing them to nicotine alone. It also examines brand-specific differences in MAO-A inhibition to provide a deeper understanding of the role of non-nicotine constituents in HTP use.

Methods: A rat self-administration model was used to evaluate the reinforcement patterns of HTP-T (tobacco flavor), HTP-M (menthol flavor), and nicotine under fixed-ratio schedules.

Flow cytometry (FCM), characterized by its simplicity, rapid processing, multiparameter analysis, and high sensitivity, is widely used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of hematological malignancies. FCM testing of tissue samples not only aids in diagnosing and classifying hematological cancers, but also enables the detection of solid tumors. Its ability to detect numerous marker parameters from small samples is particularly useful when dealing with limited cell quantities, such as in fine-needle biopsy samples.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) confined to the central nervous system. Most of the patients eventually develop relapsed/refractory (R/R) PCNSL, and the overall prognosis for PCNSL remains dismal. Recently, gene sequencing, transcriptome sequencing, and single-cell sequencing platforms have provided a large amount of data revealing the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and drug resistance in PCNSL, including the activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway in tumor cells, tumor heterogeneity, and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.
