Water pollution by antibiotics is a serious and growing problem. Given this challenge, a free-standing three-dimensional (3D) reduced graphene oxide foam supported copper oxide nanoparticles (3D-rGO-CuO) was synthesized using GO as a precursor and applied as an efficient persulfate activator for tetracycline (TC) degradation. The influences of CuO mass, solution pH, persulfate dosage, and common anions on the TC degradation were investigated in detail.

Combing the assisted dispersion strategy of support with the wet chemical reduction method, a novel nano-zero valent iron/microsilica (nZVI/M) composite was successfully fabricated, where the 2D nZVI nanosheets were uniformly anchored and covered on the surface of microsilica. The introduction of microsilica notably relieved the agglomeration effect of nZVI nanosheets, which induced the improvement of specific surface area (45.68 m/g) and pore volume (0.

In this work, a novel method of solid sample pretreatment technique of bismuth fire assay (Bi-FA) combined with solid sample determination by laser ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS) was reported for the determination of ultra-trace Pt and Pd in geochemical samples. Bismuth oxide (BiO) was used as fire assay collector to directly enrich Pt and Pd from solid samples, and Ag protection cupellation was employed to generate Ag granules. After cleaning, weighing and annealing, the Ag granules were compressed into thin slices and determined by LA-ICP-MS for Pt, Pd and Ag (Ag was selected as the internal standard isotope).

Iron tailings are fine, stable and complex materials, which are mainly composed of minerals and metal oxides. Residual silicon in iron tailings can be used to prepare mesoporous silica materials applied to energy storage, environmental protection and other fields. This paper reported a novel synthesis strategy from iron tailings to high-surface area hexagonally ordered mesoporous silica materials in an innovative non-hydrothermal system at room temperature.

Abrasive Wear Resistance of Plasma-Nitrided Ti Enhanced by Ultrasonic Surface Rolling Processing Pre-Treatment.

Materials (Basel)

October 2019

SEU-FEI Nano-Pico Center, Key Laboratory of MEMS of Ministry of Education, Southeast University, Nanjing 2100096, China.

The objective of the given work was to investigate abrasive wear behaviours of titanium (Ti) treated by ultrasonic surface rolling processing (USRP) pre-treatment and plasma nitriding (PN). Simulated lunar regolith particles (SLRPs) were employed as abrasive materials during characterization of tribological performances. The experimental results showed that SLRPs cause severe abrasive wear on Ti plasma-nitrided at 750 °C via the mechanism of micro-cutting.

Molecules

August 2019

Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Beijing 100850, China.

The physicochemical properties and potential hemostatic application of Wenchang kaolin and Maoming kaolin were inspected and evaluated. Chemical composition analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, surface area determination, X-ray diffraction, particle size, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, and zeta potential analysis were performed to quantify the physical and chemical properties of the two kaolins. The results showed that both kaolins have typical FTIR bands of kaolinite with a weight fraction for kaolinite over 90 wt%.

In this paper, ultrasonic-enhanced replacement of lead by zinc in lead leaching solution was studied. The effects of reaction time, rotational speed, temperature, concentration of leaching solution and the ratio of the surface area of the zinc plate immersed in the leaching solution to the volume of leaching solution (S : V) were studied under both conventional and ultrasonic conditions. The optimum ultrasonic-assisted replacement conditions were as follows: the S : V of 0.

A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor was developed for the determination of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) by using N-(aminobutyl)-N-(ethylisoluminol) (ABEI)-functionalized gold nanodots/chitosan/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (ABEI/GNDs/chitosan/COOH-MWCNTs) hybrid as nanointerface. First, ABEI/GNDs/chitosan/COOH-MWCNTs hybrid nanomaterials were grafted onto the surface of ITO electrode via the film-forming property of hybrid nanomaterials. The anti-NT-proBNP antibody was connected to the surface of modified electrode by virtue of amide reaction via glutaraldehyde.
