The frequency of intratympanic (IT) steroid injection varies from once daily to once weekly or less among studies and does not reach a uniform standard. This study investigated the potential association between the number of IT steroid injections and hearing recovery to determine the optimal number in sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) patients. A retrospective study involving 233 SSNHL patients receiving IT steroids plus batroxobin within 7 days of onset was performed.

Recent Progress and Future Prospects on All-Organic Polymer Dielectrics for Energy Storage Capacitors.

Chem Rev

February 2022

State Key Laboratory of Power Systems, Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, P. R. China.

With the development of advanced electronic devices and electric power systems, polymer-based dielectric film capacitors with high energy storage capability have become particularly important. Compared with polymer nanocomposites with widespread attention, all-organic polymers are fundamental and have been proven to be more effective choices in the process of scalable, continuous, and large-scale industrial production, leading to many dielectric and energy storage applications. In the past decade, efforts have intensified in this field with great progress in newly discovered dielectric polymers, fundamental production technologies, and extension toward emerging computational strategies.

Front Genet

September 2021

The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Hunan Cancer Hospital, Changsha, China.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is one of the most prevalent RNA modifications in mRNA and non-coding RNA. In this study, we identified 10 upregulated m6A regulators at both mRNA and protein levels, and 2,479 m6A-related lncRNAs. Moreover, the m6A-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) could clearly stratify the colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) samples into three subtypes.

Geraniol, a natural compound found in the essential oils of various aromatic plants, has attracted attention for its probable anticancer effects. The molecular mechanisms of the cell proliferation suppression and apoptosis induction via geraniol in gastric cancer cells (AGS), however, remain unclear. Gastric cancer cells were treated with geraniol, and it was found that the IC values were 25 μM/ml, as determined by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay.

Living-Cell MicroRNA Imaging with Self-Assembling Fragments of Fluorescent Protein-Mimic RNA Aptamer.

ACS Sens

June 2021

State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, China.

As the cellular roles of RNA abundance continue to increase, there is an urgent need for the corresponding tools to elucidate native RNA functions and dynamics, especially those of short, low-abundance RNAs in live cells. Fluorescent RNA aptamers provide a useful strategy to create the RNA tag and biosensor devices. Corn, which binds with 3,5-difluoro-4-hydroxybenzylidene-imidazolinone-2-oxime (DFHO), is a good candidate for the RNA tag because of its enhanced photostability and red-shifted spectrum.

  • Osteosarcoma (OS) is a common bone cancer primarily affecting children and young adults, and it's unusual to find OS in identical twins.
  • The study presents three cases of OS impacting only one twin in each pair, detailing treatments like chemotherapy and surgical reconstruction.
  • The occurrence of OS in one twin provides a unique opportunity to explore the genetic factors involved in the disease, suggesting the need for ongoing monitoring of the non-affected twins for potential future developments of OS.

All-Organic Dielectrics with High Breakdown Strength and Energy Storage Density for High-Power Capacitors.

Macromol Rapid Commun

June 2021

State Key Laboratory of Power System, Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China.

Polymer-based film capacitors with high breakdown strength and excellent flexibility are crucial in the field of advanced electronic devices and electric power systems. Although massive works are carried to enhance the energy storage performances, it is still a great challenge to improve the energy density of polymer composites under the premise of large-scale industrial production. Herein, a general strategy is proposed to improve the intrinsic breakdown strength and energy storage performances by blending core-shell structured methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene (MBS) rubber particles into a polymer matrix.

Objective: The diagnostic value of angle β in school-aged children with asthma is unknown. We speculate that angle β may reflect diversification of the forced expiratory flow (FEF) to some extent. The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of angle β, FeNO, pulmonary function parameters and their combinations for asthma in school-aged children.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how IL-6 and miR-210 affect regulatory T cell (Treg) function and atrial fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • It finds that IL-6 levels are significantly higher, while IL-10 levels (associated with Tregs) are lower in AF patients compared to healthy subjects, leading to reduced Treg function and increased atrial fibrosis markers.
  • The research reveals that miR-210 plays a role in regulating Tregs by targeting Foxp3, and its expression is driven by IL-6 through a mechanism involving hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α).

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles with diameters of 30-150 nm. In both physiological and pathological conditions, nearly all types of cells can release exosomes, which play important roles in cell communication and epigenetic regulation by transporting crucial protein and genetic materials such as miRNA, mRNA, and DNA. Consequently, exosome-based disease diagnosis and therapeutic methods have been intensively investigated.

Although several biomarkers have been proposed to predict the response of patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy, existing challenges such as test platform uniformity, cutoff value definition, and low frequencies restrict their effective clinical application. Here, we attempted to use deep neural networks (DNNs) based on somatic mutations to predict the clinical benefit of ICB to LUAD patients undergoing immunotherapy. We used DNNs to train and validate the predictive model in three cohorts.
