Fetuin B aggravates liver X receptor-mediated hepatic steatosis through AMPK in HepG2 cells and mice.

[Expression of cytokines Il-6, IL-34 and M-CSFR in chronic periodontitis and its clinical significance].

Purpose: To detect the expression of IL-6，IL-34 and M-CSFR in chronic periodontitis and healthy gingival tissue and discuss the role of IL-6，IL-34 and M-CSFR in the etiology of chronic periodontitis.

Methods: A total of 8 patients with mild chronic periodontitis and 8 patients with severe chronic periodontitis were collected in this study. As control，8 normal gingival tissues from extracted healthy were selected.

[A primary analysis of oral mucosa and periodontal status of chronic graft-versus-host disease caused by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation].

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the severity and status of oral mucosa and periodontal status in early and late stage after receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT).

Methods: This study enrolled patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Through a survey questionnaire, clinical examination, we collected clinical data from 108 HSCT recipients and divided them into 2 groups: transplantation time less than 1 year and more than 1 year.

Switching Lamivudine with Adefovir Dipivoxil Combination Therapy to Entecavir Monotherapy Provides Better Viral Suppression and Kidney Safety.

Most chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients in China are primitively treated with a combination of lamivudine (LAM) and adefovir dipivoxil (ADV). Although antiviral resistance can be avoided with this combination therapy, using it can have harmful side effects related to ADV, specifically kidney and bone injury. This study was designed to compare viral suppression and kidney safety when switching LAM and ADV combination therapy to entecavir (ETV) monotherapy in patients with CHB and compensated hepatic cirrhosis.

Long non-coding RNA LINC01296 promotes esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cell proliferation and invasion by epigenetic suppression of KLF2.

Dysregulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are found in many types of tumors, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC); however, the pattern of expression and function of LINC01296 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma are unknown. In the current study we showed that LINC01296 expression is significantly higher in ESCC tissues when compared with corresponding adjacent normal tissues. Higher LINC01296 expression was associated with lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and worse overall survival rate in ESCC patients.

MicroRNA-21 and microRNA-146a negatively regulate the secondary inflammatory response of microglia after intracerebral hemorrhage.

Background: A secondary inflammatory response is the most important mechanism of injury after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Previous studies found microRNAs (miRs) expressed abnormally in the perihematomal tissue and blood of patients with ICH and demonstrated that miRs were related to pathophysiological changes and prognosis after ICH, and the development of inflammation.

Methods: We induced a microglial inflammatory response by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to construct a microglial inflammatory model.

Charge injection based electrical stimulation on polypyrrole planar electrodes to regulate cellular osteogenic differentiation.

In this study, polypyrrole (Ppy) electrodes were prepared to support an electrical stimulation to MC3T3-E1 cells for regulating their osteogenic differentiation. The charge injection capacity ( ) of the Ppy electrodes could be adjusted by the Ppy thickness, and a higher could make the electrode able to produce a higher charge injection quantity ( ) at applied voltage. The onto electrode could be considered as the intensity of the stimulation pulse to cells, and the pulse frequency means the number of electric stimulation with at one second.

Hepatic carcinoma with indolent T-lymphoblastic proliferation (iT-LBP).

Although indolent T-lymphoblastic proliferation (iT-LBP) in the extrathymic location have been shown to be a distinct clinicopathologic entity, carcinoma composed iT-LBP are rare. We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological features of 7 hepatic carcinoma cases with iT-LBP. There were 5 male and 2 female patients, aged from 37-54 (mean 47) years.

High incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with Crohn's disease but not ulcerative colitis.

Background: hepatic steatosis including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has several same pathogenesis with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the parenteral complication about NAFLD was reported rare. The aim of this study was to study the NAFLD incidence of IBD patients and influence factors.

Methods: we reviewed 137 patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and 69 patients with ulcerative colitis (UC).

Dysregulation of N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10) is associated with the development of many types of tumors; however, its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been fully elucidated. Here, we examined the role of NAT10 during epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in HCC and established its role in metastasis. We evaluated expression of NAT10 expression in four HCC cell lines and determined the effects of knockdown by siRNA or treatment with the NAT10 inhibitor, Remodelin.

Effects of brain-derived neurotrophic factor-pretreated neuron stem cell transplantation on Alzheimer's disease model mice.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common case of dementia and its possible therapies, such as neuron stem cell (NSC) transplantation therapy, have been studied for years. In order to improve NSC transplantation effects, we were inspired to pretreat NSC using brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) before transplantation. The AD mouse model was constructed and effects of BDNF+NSC transplant group and traditional NSC transplant group were compared using the four indicators: conditions of learning and memory ability recovery tested by Morris Water Maze (MWM), number of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons, expression of synaptophysin, and number of acetylcholinesterase (ACHE)-positive fibers detected by chemical staining.

Dynamic changes of circulating T-helper cell subsets following severe thoracic trauma.

Major trauma induces profound immune dysfunction, which subsequently results in sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndromes (MODS). The functionally conducive immune cells are of paramount important in the early recovery and development of the post-traumatic organ failure. In this study, we investigated the immune deregulation after severe trauma by means of detecting the differentiation of CD4(+) T cells.

High expression of N-acetyltransferase 10: a novel independent prognostic marker of worse outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10) is a nucleolar protein involved in histone acetylation, telomerase activity regulation, DNA damage response and cytokinesis. The expression of NAT10 was found to be enhanced in several types of tumors, suggesting its correlation with tumor development. However, the specific role of NAT10 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still unclear.

Value of (18)F-FDG-PET/CT in ocular sebaceous adenocarcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Ocular sebaceous adenocarcinoma is a rare malignant tumor. We report an unusual case of orbital sebaceous adenocarcinoma in a 48-year-old woman. The patient underwent F-18 2-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ((18)F-FDG-PET/CT) to determine the initial clinical stage.

Stem cells as cellular vehicles for gene therapy against glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and deadliest primary tumor in adults, with current treatments having limited specific and efficient delivery of therapeutic drugs to tumor sites or cells. Therefore, the development of alternative treatment options is urgently needed. Stem cells are considered as ideal cellular vehicles for gene therapy against glioblastoma.

Acute myeloid leukemia of a primary hepatic carcinoma patient after liver transplantation: a case report and literature review.

Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is an important means to treat end-stage liver disease. Although effective immunosuppressant medication greatly assists the survival of patients, it is likely to promote infections and cancer. Acute leukemia (AL) is a rare complication after LDLT and up to now only 1 case of post-transplantation AL has occurred in our liver transplantation center after more than 1,600 LDLT interventions since 1993.

Sphenoid sinus mucocele presenting with oculomotor nerve palsy and affecting the functions of trigeminal nerve: a case report.

We report a case of first-episode sphenoid mucocele successfully treated via transnasal endoscopic drainage and marsupialization of the mucocele. A 55 year-old female presented with persistent right-side facial numbness (in the areas of the first and second branches of the trigeminal nerve) and right-side ptosis. Computed tomography (CT) imaging and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed opacification and expansion of the right-side sphenoid sinus lesion.

Acute myocardial/cerebral infarction as first/relapse manifestation in one acute promyelocytic leukemia patient.

In the clinical setting, bleeding is a common manifestation of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), whereas thrombosis is relatively rare, especially as an initial symptom. Here, we report an unusual case of APL with acute myocardial infarction as the first manifestation and cerebral infarction as the relapse manifestation in a healthy young woman. This unique case emphasizes that a thrombotic event could be the first manifestation of an underlying hematological disorder such as APL and could also be a sign of relapse.

The clinical characteristic and risk of capsule incomplete and retention in Crohn's disease.
