Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by symptoms such as abnormal lubrication function of synovial fluid and heightened friction on the cartilage surface in its early stages, prior to evident cartilage damage. Current early intervention strategies employing lubricated hydrogels to shield cartilage from friction often overlook the significance of hydrogel-cartilage adhesion and enhancement of the cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM). Herein, we constructed a hydrogel based on dihydrazide-modified hyaluronic acid (HA) (AHA) and catechol-conjugated aldehyde-modified HA (CHA), which not only adheres to the cartilage surface as an effective lubricant but also improves the extracellular environment of chondrocytes in OA.

We highlight the latest work of Qiu et al. on the core mechanism of ferroptosis induced by rare phospholipids with two polyunsaturated fatty acyl tails (PL-PUFAs), which has been published in . It has long been acknowledged that PLs containing one PUFA tail (PL-PUFAs) serve as substrates for phospholipid peroxidation during the process of ferroptosis, owing to their susceptibility to oxidation and prevalence in vivo.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are a promising therapeutic target for cancers, but achieving multitarget therapy of TAMs is still challenging. Here, we develop a protein-crowned micelle system for targeted and synergistic TAM reprogramming to enhance cancer treatment. The doxorubicin-loaded micelles with a hemoglobin crown (Hb-DOXM) can bind with endogenous plasma haptoglobin to realize specific M2-type TAM targeting.

Since distraction osteogenesis had been used in maxillofacial surgery in the 1990s,it has become an important option for treating maxillary hypoplasia in cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients. Numerous domestic and international studies reported that the prognosis of distraction osteogenesis might be affected by various factors, including the design of osteotomy line, type of distractor, advancement of maxillary bone and the age of patients, etc. Therefore, the present article reviewed possible impact factors that affect the effectiveness and outcomes of maxillary distraction osteogenesis of CLP from three aspects: treatment methods, type of patients and adjuvant therapy, which hopefully might benefit the formulation of treatment strategies in clinical work and improve the prognosis of distraction osteogenesis.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) activation of NF-κB is pivotal for EBV-infected B lymphocyte survival. Herein, we found that LMP1 markedly rescued the suppressed the proliferation of several nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines caused by a Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) ligand poly (I:C). We profiled the expression alterations of TLR3 and LMP1 within these NPC cell lines in response to poly (I:C) treatment, and found a high correlation between them ws found, suggesting potential involvement of TLR3 in LMP1 signaling.

Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) is responsible for around 3000 reported cases each year. Treatments for HAT are expensive and problematic to administer, and available drugs are old and less than ideal, some with high levels of toxicity that result in debilitating and, in some cases, fatal side effects. Treatment options are limited, with only one drug, eflornithine, introduced in the last 28 years.
