This study was targeted at investigating the biological functions of E74-like ETS transcription factor 1 (ELF1) in pancreatic cancer (PC) and its underlying mechanism. ELF1 expression in PC tissues was detected by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) method, EdU method and flow cytometry were used to detect the cell proliferation and apoptosis of PC cell lines after transfection.

The design and development of wound dressings with excellent procoagulant and antibacterial activity to achieve high wound healing effectiveness are highly desirable in clinical applications. In this work, we develop a calcium-copper zeolite gauze (CaCu-ZG) by a two-step process involving calcium and copper ion exchange in a zeolite gauze. The CaCu-ZG exhibits remarkable procoagulant and antibacterial abilities, as well as good biocompatibility.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant cancers. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in tumor progression and affects the prognosis of CRC patients. However, the TME has been poorly characterized and studies aiming to identify the biomarkers or combined risk scores of CRC patients are limited.

Nanozymes have limited applications in clinical practice due to issues relating to their safety, stability, biocompatibility, and relatively low catalytic activity in the tumor microenvironment (TME) . Herein, we report a synergistic enhancement strategy involving the conjugation of metal-based nanozymes (Fe@FeO) with natural bioactive organic molecules (ginsenoside Rg3) to establish a new nanodrug. Importantly, this metal-organic nanocomposite drug ensured the stability and biosafety of the nanozyme cores and the cellular uptake efficiency of the whole nanodrug entity.

The relatively low sensitivity is the limitation of ELISA in early screening of diseases. Various signal enhancing methods are developed to increase detection sensitivity, but most of them require professional operation and are not compatible with commercial reagent kits or automatic analysis instruments, limiting their application in clinical testing. Here, we present a contactless and user-friendly ball-lens assisted fluorescence enhancing (BFE) method to improve immunoassay sensitivity.

Here, the authors describe a mRNA virus-mimicking vaccine platform that is comprised of a phospholipid bilayer encapsulated with a protein-nucleotide core consisting of antigen-encoding mRNA molecules, unmethylated CpG oligonucleotides and positively charged proteins. In cell culture, VLVP potently stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) to express inflammatory cytokines that facilitated dendritic cell (DC) maturation and promoted antigen processing and presentation.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Roy's adaptation model combined with the forgetting curve in the clinical instruction of operating room nursing interns.
Methods: 115 nursing students in our hospital were randomized and allocated into two groups: the observation group (n=60) and the control group (n=55). The control group underwent the traditional nursing instruction method, and the observation group underwent a new instruction mode guided by Roy's adaptation model combined with the forgetting curve method.

Tumor recurrence is a common clinical dilemma in diffuse gliomas. We aimed to identify a recurrence-related signature to predict the prognosis for glioma patients. In the public Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas dataset, we enrolled multi-omics data including genome, epigenome and transcriptome across primary and recurrent gliomas.

Stem cell-based therapy has great potential in regenerative medicine. However, the survival and engraftment rates of transplanted stem cells in disease regions are poor and limit the effectiveness of cell therapy due to the fragility of stem cells. Here, an approach involving a single-cell coating of surface-anchored nanogel to regulate stem cell fate with anti-apoptosis capacity in the hypoxic and ischemic environment of infarcted hearts is developed for the first time.

tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) are derived from corresponding tRNAs and have been shown by several studies to be novel biological markers for tumour diagnosis and therapy. However, until now, the effects of tRFs on the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC) and especially on the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) have remained unknown. Our study aimed to assess CRC-related tRFs and examine the effects of key tRFs on CRC progression and related mechanisms.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) can function as key regulators of oncogenic processes, making them ideal diagnostic biomarkers of many cancers. However, few studies to date have reported on plasma circRNA profiles associated with colorectal cancer (CRC). To that end, we herein employed microarray- and qRT-PCR-based approaches to evaluate circulating plasma circRNAs in CRC patients.

The SPARC/osteonectin, CWCV and Kazal-like domains proteoglycan 1 (SPOCK1) is a highly conserved, multi-domain proteoglycan that regulates the dynamic equilibrium of extracellular matrix (ECM). Besides, SPOCK1 is one of the key regulatory genes in the tumor ECM dynamic homeostasis process, which activates many molecular signaling pathways (such as EMT process, Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/Akt, and mTOR/S6K signaling pathways). This activation leads to ECM remodeling and promotes cell proliferation and invasion, but inhibits cell apoptosis.

Psychological stress is a well-accepted risk factor in cancer initiation and progression. The explosive growth of psychoneuroimmunology research in the past decade has yielded an unprecedented wealth of information about the critical role of chronic stress in the immune dysfunction that influences tumor behaviors, which presents insights to mitigate distress and improve prognosis in cancer patients. Chronic stress exacerbates inflammation and causes a metabolism disorder, making it difficult for the organisms to maintain homeostasis and increasing its susceptibility to cancer.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is a natural product with potential anti-cancer property whose direct target has not been identified. This study intended to investigate ERα36, a new isoform of estrogen receptor alpha (ERa), as a therapeutic target of EGCG in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this work, we examined the expression level of ERs in HCC cell lines and a normal human liver cell line, and evaluated inhibition effect of EGCG on these cells , and further on Hep3B .

The purpose of our study was to investigate the hypothesis that DWI-MRI and DCE-MRI cab be used to distinguish between IRE and RE zones of IRE treatment in a rabbit liver model. 6 rabbits underwent baseline and post-procedure MR imaging with DWI and DCE-MRI as well as IRE (10 pulses, 2000 V, 10 µs/pulse, 10 ms between pulses). Rabbits were euthanized immediately after post-procedure MRI to acquire liver tissue for histology.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) carries the worst prognosis and caused one of the highest cancer-related mortalities. Dendritic cell (DC) vaccination is a promising cancer immunotherapy; however, the clinical outcomes are often poor. The administration route of DC vaccine can significantly alter the anti-tumor immune response.

Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), which is a noninvasive form of mechanical energy, has been utilized as a clinical therapy for bone fracture healing. However, the mechanism how LIPUS affects osteoclast formation and osteoclast activity, has not been fully detailed. Here we found that LIPUS inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation in vitro, characterized by decreased number and area of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) positive cells.

A previously healthy 28-year-old G1P1 Asian woman presented with a 1-year history of a painful palpable lesion arising within the left perineum. Histopathology revealed multiple endometriotic foci composed of endometrial glands and moderate dense stroma, surrounded by dense fibro-elastic tissue. This patient was diagnosed as endometriosis and the endometriotic mass was excised under local anaesthesia.
