A non-invasive condensation collection-ion chromatography method was established for the determination of organic acids and anions including lactic acid, formic acid, acetic acid, pyruvic acid, chloride, nitrate, nitrite, and sulfate in the exhaled breath of humans. The breath exhaled was condensed and collected using a home-made exhaled breath condensation equipment. This equipment included a disposable mouthpiece as a blow-off port, one-way valve and flow meter, cold trap, disposable condensate collection tube placed in the cold trap, and gas outlet.

Role of Th22 Cells in Human Viral Diseases.

Front Med (Lausanne)

August 2021

Department of Blood Transfusion, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Naive CD4 T cells can differentiate into different cell subsets after receiving antigen stimulation, which secrete corresponding characteristic cytokines and thereby exert biological effects in various diseases. Th22 cells, a novel subset of CD4 T cells, are different from Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg cell subsets, which have been discovered in recent years. They can express CCR4, CCR6, and CCR10 molecules and secrete IL-22, IL-13, and TNF-α.

Colorimetric sensors for the rapid detection of numerous analytes have been widely applied in many fields such as biomedicine, food industry and environmental science due to their highly sensitive and selective response, easy operation and visual identification by naked eyes. In this review, the recent progress of the colorimetric sensors based on the magnetic nanomaterials with unique nanozymes-like catalytic activity (magnetic nanozyme) and their colorimetric sensing applications are presented. Emerging magnetic nanozyme-based colorimetric sensors, such as metal oxide/sulfides-based, metal-based, carbon-based, and aptamer-conjugated magnetic nanomaterials, offer many desirable features for target analytes detection.

  • The study investigated the effectiveness of PC-DCN nanoliposomes in reducing liver fibrosis through both in vitro (cell cultures) and in vivo (rat models) experiments.
  • Key results showed that treatment with PC-DCN significantly decreased indicators of fibrosis like -SMA, COL1A1, and TGF- levels, as well as improved liver function markers such as ALT and AST.
  • The findings suggest that PC-DCN therapy could be a potential therapeutic approach for managing liver fibrosis by targeting inflammation and fibrosis-related markers.

May 2021

State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and Mechatronic Systems, School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China.

As photocrosslinkable materials, methacryloyl-modified hydrogels are widely used as bioinks in tissue engineering. Existing printing methods to use these hydrogels, including changing the viscosity of the material or mixing them with other printing components, have been explored, but their application has been limited due to low printing quality or high cost. In addition, the complex operation of bulky equipment restricts the application of these existing printing methods.

August 2020

Department of Anesthesiology, the First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Long noncoding RNA Hoxaas3 is found to be up-regulated in models of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), suggesting its involvement in lung fibrosis.
  • Overexpression of Hoxaas3 promotes fibrogenesis, while its inhibition reduces fibrosis by regulating the microRNA miR-450b-5p, which targets the transcription factor Runx1.
  • Hoxaas3 is linked to the TGF-β1/Smad4 signaling pathway and may serve as a new diagnostic biomarker or therapeutic target for treating IPF.

Detection of extremity chronic traumatic osteomyelitis by machine learning based on computed-tomography images: A retrospective study.

Medicine (Baltimore)

February 2020

College of Information Science & Electronic Engineering, Key Lab. of Advanced Micro/Nano Electronics Devices & Smart Systems of Zhejiang, Zhejiang University.

Despite the availability of a series of tests, detection of chronic traumatic osteomyelitis is still exhausting in clinical practice. We hypothesized that machine learning based on computed-tomography (CT) images would provide better diagnostic performance for extremity traumatic chronic osteomyelitis than the serological biomarker alone. A retrospective study was carried out to collect medical data from patients with extremity traumatic osteomyelitis according to the criteria of musculoskeletal infection society.

Since the introduction of Milan Criteria, all scoring models describing the prognosis of hepatocellular cancer (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT) have been exclusively based on characteristics available at surgery, therefore neglecting the intention-to-treat principles. This study aimed at developing an intention-to-treat model through a competing-risk analysis. Using data available at first referral, an upper limit of tumor burden for downstaging was identified beyond which successful LT becomes an unrealistic goal.

November 2019

Department of Chemistry, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310027, China. Electronic address:

A novel nano-titania modified covalent organic frameworks (NTM-COFs) has been synthesized and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron micrographs (SEM). Besides, NTM-COFs, as efficient sorbent, has also been evaluated in the on-line pass-through cleanup procedure prior to the analysis of local anesthetic drugs (lidocaine, bupivacaine and tetracaine) in human plasma by liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Under optimum conditions, the level of matrix effects can be dramatically reduced by the NTM-COFs based on-line pass-through cleanup procedure, with acceptable recoveries ranging from 88.
