Taihe black-boned silky fowl (TS) is a native chicken breed in China with more than 2000 years of history. The present study aimed to characterize and evaluate the physical, nutritional, and flavor properties of TS eggs with a comparison to two other commercial breeds. Eggs from TS ( = 60) crossbred black-boned silky fowl (CB, = 60) and Hy-line Brown (HL, = 60) were used for physicochemical analysis.

Stress damage caused by early weaning and its possible mechanism have been studied mainly in young mammals, but rarely in altrices, especially in squabs. The study aimed to investigate the possible molecular mechanism of intestinal epithelial barrier damage caused by early weaning in squabs through determining the intestinal permeability, the ultrastructure of villous epithelium, the contents of ileal cytokines, and the protein relative expression of tight-junction proteins, TLRs and their mediated key factors in inflammatory signaling pathways. A total of 192 newly hatched squabs were randomly divided into 2 groups, 1 group was weaned and fed artificial pigeon milk from d 7, and the other group continued to be fed by the parent pigeons.

Severe ground-level ozone (O) pollution over major Chinese cities has become one of the most challenging problems, which have deleterious effects on human health and the sustainability of society. This study explored the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of ground-level O and its precursors based on conventional pollutant and meteorological monitoring data in Zhejiang Province from 2016 to 2021. Then, a high-performance convolutional neural network (CNN) model was established by expanding the moment and the concentration variations to general factors.

The continuous expansion of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) is crucial for maintaining the renewal of the intestinal epithelium, particularly in inflammatory conditions. It remains largely unknown how the internal microbiota repair damage to the internal mucosal barrier. Hence, investigating potential anti-inflammatory probiotics from the intestinal symbolic microbes of broilers and analyzing their mechanism of action to support the intestinal mucosal barrier function can offer novel regulatory tools to alleviate broiler enteritis.

Our previous study found that early weaning is associated with decreased growth performance, intestinal barrier impairment, and an imbalance in Th17/Treg in pigeon squabs. Chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) has been substantiated to regulate gut microbiota and restore Th17/Treg equilibrium in mammals, thereby ameliorating growth performance. However, the potential effects of COS in altricial birds remain unclear.

There has been enduring debate on how attention alters contrast appearance. Recent research indicates that exogenous attention enhances contrast appearance for low-contrast stimuli but attenuates it for high-contrast stimuli. Similarly, one study has demonstrated that endogenous attention heightens perceived contrast for low-contrast stimuli, yet none have explored its impact on high-contrast stimuli.

Refined volatile organic compound (VOC) emission characteristics are crucial for accurate source apportionment in chemical industrial parks. The data from mobile monitoring platforms in chemical industrial parks contain pollution information that is not intuitively displayed, requiring further excavation. A novel approach was proposed to identify VOC emission characteristics using the class activation map (CAM) technology of convolutional neural network (CNN), which was applied on the mobile monitoring platform data (MD) derived from a typical fine chemical industrial park.

Industrial parks have more complex O formation mechanisms due to a higher concentration and more dense emission of precursors. This study establishes an artificial neural network (ANN) model with good performance by expanding the moment and concentration changes of pollutants into general variables of meteorological factors and concentrations of pollutants. Finally, the O formation rules and concentration response to the changes of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) was explored.

A total of 10 lactobacillus strains were isolated from broiler chickens and their probiotic properties including tolerance to gastrointestinal fluids and heat treatment, antimicrobial activity, adhesion capacity to intestinal cells, surface hydrophobicity, autoaggregation, antioxidative activity, and immunomodulatory effects on chicken macrophages were evaluated. The Limosilactobacillus reuteri (LR) was the most frequently isolated species, followed by Lactobacillus johnsonii (LJ) and Ligilactobacillus salivarius (LS). All isolates showed good resistance to simulated gastrointestinal conditions and antimicrobial activity against 4 indicator strains including Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis LR 21 exhibited excellent performances on autoaggregation, hydrophobicity and adhesion capacity to Caco-2 intestinal cells.

The self-esteem of students may be significantly associated with their academic performance. However, past research in developing contexts on this issue is limited, particularly among early adolescents. Using a sample of 3101 students from rural primary and junior high schools in China, this study measured their self-esteem by the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and explored its association with academic performance.

Reuterin is well-known for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial ability, while the other potential bioactivity is not yet clear. The present study aims to investigate the immunomodulatory activity of reuterin on chicken macrophage HD11 cells for the first time and evaluate whether reuterin is able to regulate the lipopolysaccharide-stimulated inflammatory response. The results showed that the safe medication range of reuterin was less than 250 μM.

Early weaning stress has been reported to impair intestinal health in mammals. Like mammals, weaning of the pigeon squab, an altricial bird, is associated with social, environmental and dietary stress. However, understanding of weaning stress on intestinal functions is very limited in altricial birds, especially in squabs.

Background: The establishment of stable microbiota in early life is beneficial to the individual. Changes in the intestinal environment during early life play a crucial role in modulating the gut microbiota. Therefore, early intervention to change the intestinal environment can be regarded as a new regulation strategy for the growth and health of poultry.
