Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore whether machine learning can be used to establish an effective model for the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) by using texture features extracted from cerebellar gray matter and white matter, so as to identify subtle changes that cannot be observed by the naked eye.

Method: This study involved a data collection period from June 2010 to March 2023, including 374 subjects from two cohorts. The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) served as the training set, with control group and PD patients (HC: 102 and PD: 102) from 24 global sites.

Lycorine suppresses the malignancy of breast carcinoma by modulating epithelial mesenchymal transition and β-catenin signaling.

Pharmacol Res

Department of Pharmacology, National University of Singapore, NUS Centre for Cancer Research, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, 16 Medical Drive, Singapore, 117600, Singapore.. Electronic address:

Lycorine, an isoquinoline alkaloid can exhibit significant anti-cancer effects. The present study was conducted to illustrate the underlying mechanisms of action of lycorine on breast carcinoma under in vitro and in vivo settings Tandem Mass Tag assay and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis revealed that 20 signaling pathways were closely related to tumorigenesis, especially Wnt signaling pathway and tight junctions. The results demonstrated that lycorine evidently inhibited the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells with IC values of 1.

Background: Neutrophils-linked premetastatic niche plays a key role in tumor metastasis, but not much is known about the heterogeneity and diverse role of neutrophils in niche formation. Our study focuses on the existence and biological function of a rarely delved subset of neutrophils, named as tumor-associated aged neutrophils (Naged, CXCR4CD62L), involved in premetastatic niche formation during breast cancer metastasis.

Methods: We explored the distributions of Naged in 206 patients and mice models (4T1 and MMTV-PyMT) by flow cytometry.

This study assessed the methylation of peripheral in individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), identified its correlation with the hippocampal volume, and explored whether the correlation is influenced by apolipoprotein E ε4 (APOE ε4) status. Cognitively normal controls (NCs, = 56), individuals with SCD ( = 81), and patients with objective cognitive impairment (OCI, = 51) were included from the Sino Longitudinal Study on Cognitive Decline (NCT03370744). All participants completed neuropsychological assessments, blood tests, and structural MRI.

Tumor-derived HMGB1 induces CD62L neutrophil polarization and promotes lung metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer.

Oncogenesis

September 2020

Key Laboratory of Tumor Microenvironment and Immune Therapy of Zhejiang Province, Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, 310058, China.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is highly aggressive, difficult to treat and commonly develops visceral metastasis, including lung metastasis. We observed that High mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) was highly expressed in human TNBC and positively correlated with cancer metastasis. The hypoxic tumor environment is known to regulate HMGB1 secretion, but an understanding of the underlying mechanism by which tumor-derived HMGB1 regulates interstitial components and promotes breast cancer lung metastasis has remained elusive.

Nearly 70% of breast cancer (BC) is hormone-receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative, and endocrine therapy is the mainstay of treatment for this subtype. However, intrinsic or acquired endocrine resistance can occur during the endocrine treatment. Based on insights of endocrine resistance mechanisms, a number of targeted therapies have been and continue to be developed.

Objective: To investigate the role of microRNA-486-5p (miR-486-5p) in nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) resistance to cisplatin.

Methods: This retrospective study examined tumours and normal lung tissues from patients with NSCLC. The levels of miR-486-5p in NSCLC and normal tissues were determined using reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction.

BACKGROUND Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a class of noncoding RNAs, may act as biomarkers and therapeutic targets of various cancers. However, the effects of hsa_circ_0004458 in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) are still very much unclear. We aimed to demonstrate the potential roles of hsa_circ_0004458 in the progression of PTC.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most frequent cancers worldwide and leads to a great many deaths each year. However, the underlying mechanisms that regulate colorectal cancer development and progression remain elusive. Here we identified an uncharacteristic long noncoding RNA TMEM75 that was upregulated in colorectal cancer compared to non-tumor tissues.

The 90-day prognostic value of serum cyclophilin A in traumatic brain injury.

Clin Chim Acta

September 2018

Department of Neurosurgery, Zhejiang Taizhou Municipal Hospital, 381 Zhongshan East Road, Jiaojiang District, Taizhou 318000, Zhejiang Province, China. Electronic address:

Background: Cyclophilin A is involved in many inflammatory diseases and its expression is up-regulated after brain injury. We determined if serum cyclophilin A could be used as a marker for severity and 90-day outcome in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Methods: Serum cyclophilin A concentrations were quantified in 105 severe TBI patients and 105 healthy individuals.

Objective: To investigate the effects of long non-coding RNA SPRY4-IT1 (LncRNA) on proliferation and metastasis of medul-loblastoma cells.

Methods: SPRY4-IT1siRNA and control fluorescence siRNA were transfected into medulloblastoma cell line Daoy with Lipo-fe ctamine 2000 and were divided into control group and si-SPRY4-IT1 group. Relative expression of SPRY4-IT1 mRNA were detected by real-time quantitative PCR.

Objective: To investigate the effect of demethylation of Syk gene promoter by the methylation transferase inhibitor 5-aza-CdR on the invasion and metastasis of medulloblastoma cell line Daoy.

Methods: Medulloblastoma cell line Daoy was treated with 5-aza-CdR Methylation-specific PCR, real time-PCR and Western blot were used to detect Syk gene promoter methylation status, Syk mRNA and protein expression respectively. Transwell was employed to study the invasion and metastasis of medulloblastoma cell line Daoyby counting the cells that had invaded through Matrigel and migrated to the undersurface of the membrane before and after treatment of 5-aza-CdR.
