HO-independent chemodynamic therapy initiated from magnetic iron carbide nanoparticle-assisted artemisinin synergy.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is a booming technology that utilizes Fenton reagents to kill tumor cells by transforming intracellular HO into reactive oxygen species (ROS), but insufficient endogenous HO makes it difficult to attain satisfactory antitumor results. In this article, a HO-free CDT technique with tumor-specificity is developed by using pH-sensitive magnetic iron carbide nanoparticles (PEG/FeC@FeO NPs) to trigger artemisinin (ART) to form ROS. ART-loaded PEG/FeC@FeO NPs are fabricated for the enormous release of Fe ions induced by the acidic conditions of the tumor microenvironment after magnetic-assisted tumor enrichment, which results in the rapid degradation of the PEG/FeC@FeO NPs and release of ART once endocytosed into tumor cells.

[Therapeutic effect of chlorhexidine combined with mechanical debridement on peri-implantitis and its influence on patients' SF-36 score].

Purpose: To study the effect of chlorhexidine combined with mechanical debridement on peri-implant inflammation and the influence on SF-36 score of patients.

Methods: One hundred patients with peri-implantitis admitted to Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital from January 2015 to January 2019 were selected and randomly divided into control group and combined group with 50 cases in each group according to random number table method.Patients in both groups were treated with mechanical debridement, and patients in the combined group were gargled with chlorhexidine gargle apart from mechanical debridement.

Aim: We aimed to assess the effect of autophagy and stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) on podocyte epithelial-mesenchymal transition in diabetic nephropathy.

Methods: The sera of 8-week-old db/db and C57BL/KsJ rats were used to culture MPC5 cells. The experiment was divided into 4 groups: MPC5 + siRNA-Scr + 10% C57BL/KsJ (Group A), MPC5 + siRNA-STIM1 + 10% C57BL/KsJ (Group B), MPC5 + siRNA-Scr + 10% db/db (Group C), and MPC5 + siRNA-STIM1 + 10% db/db (Group D).

Our study aims to investigate the effects of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) as well as the underlying mechanism. In our study, Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group; ALI group; ALI+MSCs group and ALI+MSCs claudin-4 siRNA group. MRC-5 and BEAS-2B cell lines were used for assay.

Tubulocystic oncocytoma of the kidney: a case study and review of literature with focus on implications for differential diagnosis.

Renal oncocytoma (RO) can rarely present with a multilocular or tubulocystic growth pattern that may cause significant diagnostic difficulties with a variety of cystic renal cell carcinomas (RCC). Distinguishing these RO variants from their many RCC mimickers is critical because of its typical benign clinical course. Herein, we report a case of RO with extensive tubulocystic architectures on a 42-year-old female patient and discuss the clinicopathologic characterizations of this unusual RO variant with an emphasis on the wide spectrum of differential diagnoses of a variety of primary or secondary renal tumors that are featuring of both oncocytic cell changes and tubulocystic growth patterns.

Stem cells as cellular vehicles for gene therapy against glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and deadliest primary tumor in adults, with current treatments having limited specific and efficient delivery of therapeutic drugs to tumor sites or cells. Therefore, the development of alternative treatment options is urgently needed. Stem cells are considered as ideal cellular vehicles for gene therapy against glioblastoma.

Acute myeloid leukemia of a primary hepatic carcinoma patient after liver transplantation: a case report and literature review.

Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is an important means to treat end-stage liver disease. Although effective immunosuppressant medication greatly assists the survival of patients, it is likely to promote infections and cancer. Acute leukemia (AL) is a rare complication after LDLT and up to now only 1 case of post-transplantation AL has occurred in our liver transplantation center after more than 1,600 LDLT interventions since 1993.

Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma with poorly differentiated foci is indicative of aggressive behavior: clinicopathologic study of two cases and review of the literature.

Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma (TCRCC) is a rare, recently characterized RCC subtype with distinctive clinicopathologic and genetic characterizations as well as typical behaviors in an indolent fashion. However, sporadic case reports in the literature have indicated that TCRCC with sarcomatoid differentiation or poorly differentiated (PD) foci could behave aggressively. Herein, we reported two cases of TCRCC with PD foci indentified from our consultative service.

Successful laparoscopic common bile duct exploration in a patient with factor V deficiency, a case report and review of literature.

Factor V deficiency is a rare bleeding disorder. Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is the only source of factor V because factor V concentrates is not available now. We present here a patient had concomitant gallbladder and common bile (CBD) stones with factor V deficiency.

Anti-angiogenesis or pro-angiogenesis for cancer treatment: focus on drug distribution.

Enhancing chemotherapy delivery to tumors, improving tumor growth control, reducing metastasis, and increasing survival are all critical objectives of improved cancer therapy. One of the obstacles to the success of anticancer therapies is related to the inefficient distribution of drugs to tumor cells. To be effective, chemotherapeutics must reach a concentration in cancer cells that is sufficient to inhibit its targets.

Renal myopericytoma: a clinicopathologic study of six cases and review of the literature.

To evaluate the morphologic features, immunohistochemical profiles, and biological behavior of renal myopericytoma. Six cases of renal myopericytoma are retrospectively retrieved and analyzed by H&E and immunohistochemical staining. Clinically, patient's age ranged from 33 to 70 years (median, 56 years).

Intertrochanteric hip fracture surgery in Chinese: risk factors for predicting mortality.

Surgery is the preferred treatment for intertrochanteric fractures. This study aimed to analyze risk factors for predicting mortality after intertrochanteric hip fracture surgery by arthroplasty and internal fixation. We performed a retrospective analysis of 1,263 patients who received surgical treatment for intertrochanteric fractures from January 2005 to December 2010.

Up-regulation of ECT2 is associated with poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of ECT2 in gastric cancer and its clinical significance.

Methods And Results: We investigated the differentially expressed genes between gastric cancer tissues and normal gastric mucosa by cDNA microarray, and then we found ECT2 was up-regulated in gastric cancer. What is more, we verified ECT2 expression level by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and measured its protein level by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Premelanosome-negative inflammatory angiomyolipoma of liver with expression of cathepsin K and TFE3.

We report the first case of inflammatory variant of hepatic angiomyolipoma (AML) with expression of transcription factor E3 (TFE3) protein but negativity for HMB45 and melan A in a 62-year-old female. Imaging studies revealed a tumor in the left lobe of liver, sized 5.8 cm in maximum diameter.

Association of HLA-DQA1 (rs9272219) with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis in a Han Chinese population.

HLA-DQA1 (rs9272219) has been previously reported that it is a susceptibility locus in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) of UK Caucasian population and North American; however, it has not reported in RA of Chinese population. Our study was to identify whether or not this relationship is reside between rs9272219 and RA in a Han Chinese population. 207 patients with RA and 199 control subjects were recruited.
